Question about KDC Resolution with Samba
I'm running a debug script from this site (Dated 16 Aug 2019, created and maintained by Rowland Penny and Louis van Belle). The script obtains the Linux server DOMAIN by running "hostname -d" which returns "mycorp.com". Next the script runs
nslookup -type=SRV _kerberos._tcp.mycorp.com
which fails
** server can't find _kerberos._tcp.mycorp.com: NXDOMAIN

As 'hostname -d' is returning 'mycorp.com' it would seem that is the dns
domain your computer is in. 'mycorp.com' != 'wgname.ad.mycorp.com'
(which appears to be the dns domain of your DC) and Samba does not do
subdomains or to put it

server is not imap4 compatible
hello,
i have a problem with my dovecot installation.
sometimes, the thunderbird clients on windows machines complains
about: "server is not imap4 compatible".
on the server, at the same time, i found this error:

Samba4 - WinXP rpc server unavailable
Hi,
I have a test environment with Samba4 on Ubuntu 11.04 (alpha15 package),
and a little problem around the joining to the domain from my WinXP SP3
machine.
I followed the official Samba4 Howto, then my configuration steps was these:
- Install smb4 from ubuntu package
- setup provisioning, created a testdom.mycorp.local
- setup bind9 with gssapi (everything working fine)
- test

Sso the Linux way?
So I was googling around about this over the last week and here is what I
found:
nis/yp is for some reason bad.
Kerbos is holy, but no how-to's that don't involve windows and active
directory.
What is the recommended sso approach for centos? Where are there examples /
docs to follow?
Jason

Sieve > Pigeonhole > external storage with LDAP or other data source available to dovecot
I am looking at porting and generalizing an old in-house patch that I'm
using for the CMU Sieve plugin. It allows sieve script to test & lookup
arguments from LDAP.
Before getting too involved in this, I'd like to discuss my goals here
in the hopes that someone else also thinks this would be useful. Many
heads may make better design?
Goal:

Function failure in tm
HI all:
I have a customized source reader for the package tm (that Milan Bouchet-Vallat has been instrumental in producing).
I can get it to produce a corpus of class:
"VCorpus" "Corpus" "list"
class(mycorp[1]) returns
"VCorpus" "Corpus" "list"
and class(mycorp[[1]] returns
"PlainTextDocument"

3.8p1 on Solaris 8
Hello,
I am running into some strange (to me) behavior trying to upgrade
from 3.6.1p2 to 3.8p1 on Solaris 8.
All of my machines are running 3.6.1p2 (Linux boxes have had RH
errata applied). When I ssh with my AFS account name from any of them
to the Solaris 8 box running 3.6.1p2, it responds with
"afsuser at machine's password:". Once the password is given, I am
logged in just

oplock not working correctly
I posted a problem with oplock previously, but am guessing it goto lost
in an earlier thread with the same subject line, so here goes another shot:
Using Samba 3.0.22 on a Gentoo box (kernel 2.6.15) I've a situation
where file locking does not seem to be functioning as expected, in that
more than one user can open and write to a file without any
notifications being displayed about the file

pam_krb5 pam_sm_authenticate question
First time poster so be kind :)
I was looking at the pam_krb5.c code and noticed that for authentication
to succeed getpwnam() has to succeed.
Previously I had setup a web site using mod_auth_pam to authenticate
against an active directory (AD) server using a pam config like:
# auth
auth required pam_krb5.so no_ccache no_warn
# account
account required

Problem in "porting" a function on windows to linux?
Hi all!
I use ubuntu 9.04;
I have a function called "isLogEnabled" in my project on windows, I wanna port it to linux.
I know that I should have a "config.h" file in linux to get log from a specific Shared object and ..., but because I'm new to linux,
I don't know how this should be done, this is my function:
Code:
//This function return True if log policy is set in

X Error: Nvidia Onboard - Supermicro
Howdy all,
Any recommendation as to the right way to config X. Last time I did was
using X86Setup back in OpenBSD 2.7 days.
What's the Xorg tool? How do I invoke it? Looks like I just need to
fix the ranges, maybe they mean sync vert & horiz or something.
Or should I be typing gdm instead of startx?
Any advice? -below are some errors, infos, although the dmesg didn't

Adding RFC2307 attributes to an existing Win2003 AD domain?
Running Samba 4.0.9, we have added a pair of Samba4 domain controllers
to an existing Win2003 domain.
How do we determine whether RFC2037 attributes already exist in the
domain? And how would we go about adding them to an already existing
domain?

OpenSSH + Solaris + AFS ???
Hello *,
sorry if i missed an article which already solves my problem.
I need a working configuration of OpenSSH for Solaris 7 (SunOS 5.7)
with AFS support. PAM support to use the AFS PAm module `pam_afs.so'
and TCP-Wrapper support would be nice.
It would be nice to have similar configurations for Solaris 6
(SunOS 5.6), Solaris 8 (SunOS 5.8) and Solaris 2.5.1.
I have tested a few

TCP window based shaping
Does anyone have any pointers on how other people have implemented tcp
window adjustment to do bandwidth shaping?
Granted the basic idea is to set the window size to be RTT * bandwidth,
but a quick squiz at google turns up mostly papers on how to implement
this at the sender end with a view to some new magic TCP
implementation. I''m really interested in notes on how to implement at

Failed to join domain
hi all,
I've got an issue during a machine join, my kerberos setup seem to be
good (tested with kinit), my current version of samba is : samba

Failed to join domain: failed to set machine spn: Out of memory
We've got a very complex AD setup with something like 16 AD servers on

Integrate Samba with Active Directory
Hello guys,
I am setting up a Samba server (based on CentOS 5.6) on my company which
will act as a print and file server. Also, it has dropbox installed.
I have set up everything regarding to CUPS and Samba itself, but I'm not
being able to integrate my shares with Active Directory.
All I want is that access control to Samba shares is made through Active
Directory users and their

openssh 3.7.1p2 afs/pam issues
I've been trying to get a working version of openssh-3.7.1p2 as well.
Unfortunately, afs support has been pulled, and the patch posted on the
openafs list coredumps when I compile it. The new way that pam is done
also introduces errors since pam_authenticate is supposedly called in a
seperate thread so that the correct environmental variables are not
passed. Even after applying some changes

Unable to reset file permissions
Question regarding file permissions on Samba 3.0.22:
Using a Windows XP client when I attempt to change the file permissions
of a directory (or any single file for that matter) once I click the
'OK' button the properties window closes as expected, but upon opening
the security permissions tab again I notice the permissions have
revented back to how they were beforehand. If I click
