userdb override?
Hi,
I used to change the mailbox root for some users using a custom userdb
file which contains lines like:
doe::20000:200::/u/doe::userdb_mail=mbox:/u/doe/Mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u
The logfiles shows the mail location stays default ( rc15 worked ):

Changed CONTROL= path causes POP3 to fail, whereas IMAP is working (rc25 & rc26)

Hello,
I'm testing some configurations, in the process I used a wrong user setting
causing POP3 (get new messages) to fail, whereas IMAP was still working.
An easy fix was to remove the entire /var/cache/dovecot/1012/ directory,
both index and index/control were re-created and do work.
So my guess is that the existance of the indexes causes

[RFC master-2.2 0/1] Support OpenSSL 1.1 API for setting allowed TLS versions
Hi,
I came up with the following patch while trying to figure out a good solution
for the situation described in Debian bug #871987[1]. In short, OpenSSL in
Debian unstable has disabled TLSv1.0 and TLSv1.1 *by default*. That means that
unless an application requests otherwise, only TLSv1.2 is supported. In the
world of e-mail this is seemingly an issue, as there are still way too many old
clients

Using NID_x500UniqueIdentifier as ssl_username_from_cert
Hi,
please have a look at the attached patch for
dovecot-1.0.3
These patch modifies ssl_proxy_get_peer_name()
to use the NID_x500UniqueIdentifier as username
instead of NID_commonName.
The reason is, that the Common Name doesn't have
to be unique for the whole mailserver.
Example; in germany a lot of people got the
first name "Andreas" and the last name "Schulz".

merging Maildir from old machine to new machine
Dovecot version 1.0.rc26.
Situation is essentially a forklift upgrade to make more horsepower
available for email.
Given a new mail store using Postfix and Dovecot (Maildir), is it
possible to transfer from the old mail box (running the same config)
or will this generate problems with the various indices maintained by
Dovecot?
Kind regards and thanks/ldv

Quota exceeded messages
When I try to move messages between folders I get 'Quota exceeded' messages.
I installed dovecot without any major configuration and accounts are
created with PostfixAdmin.
Is there some common setting that I must be missing?
Version in use is 1.0 rc26

delivery agent in 1.0?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi :)
Is there any plan to include delivery agent in 1.x?
I would be very happy, if there would be lmtp delivery agent included
with dovecot 1.x... This would make creating large mailsystem cluster
creation very simple + indexes would be always up2date.

imap connection problems
Hi,
Have encountered some strange behavior of dovecot: after few days of
work (5-7 days, ~50 users, imap over ssl or tls) dovecot stops respond
with "* OK Dovecot ready.". I.e. connection gets accepted, but no
response from dovecot:

Unexpected behaviour when deleteing a big mailbox
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hello,
my last tests left me with a mailbox with > 80'000 messages in
Maildir. Dovecot served them fine. No problem. I usually use IMAP's "Mark
messages a deleted" function and expunge later.
Because the "Move to Trash" is default in many MUAs, I decided to try it
on this mailbox.
I do think that it is hard to

Migration Issues UW-POP3
I am migrating from UW's POP3 server (mbox), to Dovecote (mbox -> maildir).
Anyway, I am concerned about the Logging details offered by Dovecot, as
I manage several details from the logging information provided by UW's
Syslog information. Here's a sample of the UW information:

Authentication by certificats (a bug or my misconfiguration)
Today I've been trying to get dovecot (1.0 rc2) to use certificates
for client side authentication. If my memory serves right, beta8
had no problems with it (although it was some time ago and on different
machine).
Similar setup works perfectly well for postfix (for authentication
that is, on the same machine). Originally I thought I overdid some
certificate settings (keyUsage, nsCertType,

Time moving backwards error
I'm running dovecot on an OpenBSD 3.7 server and after upgrading to
RC25, the daemon started exiting with:
Fatal: Time just moved backwards (1173221579 -> 1173221578)! This
might cause a lot of problems, so I'll just kill myself now.
After upgrading to RC26, I've gotten the error:
Error: Time just moved backwards by 1 seconds. I'll sleep now until
we're back in
