Migrating from mbox to maildir, which converter is compatible with dovecot
Hi,
I'm testing/debuging the migration from mbox to maildir in a mailserver
running Dovecot 1.0alpha5.
I migrated all 472715 emails(in a test server) and later noted that dovecot
could not get the same flags/status of the emails as in the mbox.
I was using perfect_maildir.pl and I think its not dovecot fault. Seems
to me that perfect_maildir.pl convert the emails in a way that dovecot
could

dovecot rpms, .subscriptions file, mbox to maildir
Hi,
I am running dovecot 0.99-14 on a Fedora Core 2 machine. I had a few
questions:
1) I wanted to upgrade to the dovecot-1.0 release. However, I am not
sure if that's really required. dovecot-0.99-14 has been running very
well for me for quite some time. Is there a real advantage to switching
to the latest release. The reason I'm asking this is because:
i) I don't have too

converting maildir to mailbox
Hi all!
There is a script to convert maildir to mailbox in wiki:
http://wiki.dovecot.org/Migration/MailFormat
but it doesn't convert any message flags (seen e.t.c.).
I wrote a script, which converts most flags and labels:
https://bitbucket.org/citrin/scripts/src/tip/dovecot-maildir2mbox.pl
It doesn't convert recent flag and UIDs though, because it was not
necessary in my case.
Do you

Shared folders using mbox format
Hi,
I'd like to create a shared folder to be used with an Outlook client
and a Thunderbird client. We're currently using mboxes.
I've read the documentation here about creating a shared folder:
https://wiki.dovecot.org/SharedMailboxes/Shared
It doesn't make reference to how to do this using mbox format. Is it
possible? Should we convert to Maildir? Perhaps there's a way to

Using MySQL to store email?
So Timo,
Have you considered the idea of storing all the email in a MySQL
database? Seems to me that MySQL could somplify all the backend stuff
that everyone struggles with and with replication one could create very
massive and reliable systems. What would it take to use MySQL that way?

Mixing MBOX and MAILDIR
Hello,
I have about 100 mboxes, a few with a lot of mails and others with a few
mails. I have configured dovecot to use maildir as mail format, but I would
like to give users the ability to access their old email located in their
old mbox. So all the new mail would be in the ~/Maildir/ and their old or
archived email in /home/vmail/mboxmail/%Ln
How can I add a namespace to achieve my

MBOX to MAILDIR conversion
Thinking about going from mbox to maildir. Started with mbox way back
when but thinking about making the conversion. The main reason is that I
use rsync for backups and when these huge mailboxes are touched I have
to copy the whole thing. With maildir I only copy the files that change.
So - my questions is - what's the easiest way to make this happan. I
assume there are conversion

Mixing mbox and maildir
Hi there.
I understood that in Dovecot 1.0 it should be possible to mix the usage
of mbox and maildir mailboxes.
I just downloaded, built, and am testing dovecot-stable-20050304.
I'm a bit confused as to the terms of namespaces (haven't read that
part of the RFC yet), but this does not seem related.
Anyway, when I try specifying:
default_mail_env = ~/mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u

Hello all.
I appreciate the responses to my problem on v0.99.14. Thank you all.
We have built a new server running version 1.0-0_15.beta9.el4. The mail
delivery agent is sendmail. We seem to have

Mixing mbox and maildir
Is there some way to add a maildir folder to a mbox hierarchy? My folders
are all mbox, but I want to migrate some client-side mail from a client
(PMMail2000) that stores messages as individual files, and it might be
easiest just to dump all the files into a maildir directory with suitable
naming.

RC16 is a lot slower that RC7
I tried RC16 from RC7 and like other releases since RC7 it is
significantly slower. I'm still trying to figure out why. But I have
again switched back. Do new version take up a lot more ram perhaps? I'm
running with a gig of ram, and I'm running a few other apps. It's not a
fast computer, just an old 754 pin semptron. But the point is that RC7
runs a lot faster than RC16.

Mixed maildir and mbox folder
Hello,
i tried to implement a mixed structure of mbox for spams and spam
backscatters and maildir for the rest at dovecot 1.0.13.
I used the information at the dovecot wiki:
http://wiki.dovecot.org/Namespaces (Multiple Mailbox Locations)
But if i try this (complete config is attached with this part)
namespace:
type: private
separator: /
prefix: "#md/"

default_mail_env renaming
I was thinking about renaming default_mail_env to something that is more
understandable. I'll keep it working for backwards compatibility anyway.
How about:
# Location for users' mailboxes. This is the same as the old default_mail_env
# setting. The default is empty, which means that Dovecot tries to find the
# mailboxes automatically. This won't work if the user doesn't have any

mbox/maildir mixed setup with system/virtual mixed users
Hello Everyone,
I'm using dovecot 1.0.7 (not sure how relevant it is though)
configured to handle both sytem users and virtual users.
The system users are handled by default (PAM), while the virtual
users are handled pretty much like this:
passdb passwd-file {
args = /var/spool/vmail/%d/auth/%n
}
...And mailbox and folder location settings:
userdb static {

Setting up mixed mbox and maildir
I'm trying to set up a dovecot server for which mail arrives in an mbox,
and mail is stored in a maildir. The wiki (see
http://wiki.dovecot.org/Namespaces) refers to this as "Mixed mbox and
Maildir". It advises handling this situation by creating two
namespaces: one for the mbox and the other for the maildir. Each of
these namespaces starts with
namespace private {

Migration from pop3 to imapd
Dear list,
I am planing to set up dovecot-imapd on my production-mail server
which currently only runs pop3 via qpopper on debian-sarge.
It would be best, if I could only use imapd and use the existing pop3-
server (qpopper) as it is.
Is this possible?
Can the user both use pop3 (qpopper) and imapd (dovecot) in
parallel then?
Where does dovecot-imapd store its mails? Does it store its mail in
