SAMBA4 kinit fails
I'm trying to test Samba4 as an AD style pdc. following the instructions at http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO at step 9 I get root at pdc:~# kinit administrator at MYDOMAIN.COM kinit: Cannot contact any KDC for realm 'MYDOMAIN.COM' while getting initial credentials root at pdc:~# and yet host -t SRV _kerberos._udp.mydomain.com gives _kerberos._udp.mydomain.com has

samba 4 questions (status, roaming profiles, etc)
I'm testing samba 4 (pulling from git) on my ubuntu 10.4 box and have a bunch of questions I can't seem to find answers for on the web. 1) There is some problem with my roaming profile such that windows complains and logs me in using my most recently saved profile. I've tried moving my profile on the server out of the way, but windows doesn't seem to recreate it. How do I make

I don't know what problems you had with it, but I'm hapilly using it on about 20 servers (both djbdns and qmail) and never had a problem with it. I'll remember your advice

Help with at Bash script
I am attempting to get a script borrowed from DJB to work on my CentOS-6.6 box. Simplified it looks like this: tcpdump -l -n -e port 53 \ | awk '{if ($14 ~ /A.*?/) print $15}' \ | while read domain ; do echo $domain ; done ; The sticking point is the 'while read' construct. Run just as 'tcpdum | awk' I get this: english.stackexchange.com. www.urbandictionary.com.

how do I setup a second samba4 DC with replication, etc?
I have 1 samba4 server setup as a domain controller for FOO.COM. I want to add a second for redundancy. I really don't want to mess this up, and I can't find a clear guide online. Can anyone tell me the proper commands? Thanks. -Aaron

samba4 eventually stops working
I'm running samba4 from git (latest as of sep 1) on ubuntu 10.4. It's operating as a PDC, as well as hosting a shared drive. The last couple days I've noticed that my shared drives will appear as disconnected, and indeed trying to connect to the server times out. If I look on the server, there are many (50ish) samba processes all sitting there sleeping. If I use the init script to

trouble debugging
I want to switch away from bincimap, and I am having some trouble getting dovecot up and running. Something isn't working (I suspect it's a permissions problem) but the logs aren't really telling me anything interesting. I can authenticate and get a list of folders, but when I try to select a folder, I get the "Internal error" message that tells me to check the server

Samba 3.0.24 + OpenLDAP
I'm using the above version of Samba with OpenLDAP. I also use the smbldap-useradd script to add users, like below. I'm finding that I also have to have an account in /etc/passwd for the user to get in otherwise I get the message below. I thought that the ldapsam:ldap://localhost/ would not require the /etc/passwd entry. What did I miss? # Adding a User (doesn't work)

Passwords not returned without auth_bind ?
Hi, Maybe I am missing something simple, but I can't get users authenticated using password lookups, as opposed to auth_bind. This is how the log looks like when using password lookup: dovecot: auth(default): new auth connection: pid=2449 dovecot: auth(default): client in:

More AFS maildir debugging
There appears to be some sort of a race condition when accessing a maildir directory for the first time with dovecot. I was getting a non-specific error trying to select INBOX, but when I stepped through it with a debugger it worked. Deleting the dovecot files and running the select again it failed. I started playing with it again just now, and when attempting to access Sent, I actually

Alternative to cPanel
Hello all, I'm looking to setup a new CentOS box for a buddy of mine who wants to do hosting on a server via CoLo, Years ago I whipped up a CP of my own on a Debian box he colo'd running a basterdized qmail/tinydns and custom built httpd/mysql/etc (I was young). It worked ok but time to move on and I don't have time to maintain all those packages. I also don't have time to write

Hotplug and Multipath routes = lost route
I have 2 cable modems on a server (Linux 2.6.22). I use multipath, so the route is something like this: default nexthop via 201.6.102.1 dev eth1 weight 256 nexthop via 201.6.107.1 dev eth2 weight 128 The first one (eth1) has a higher priority, then when it goes down, I can "ifconfig" the interface eth1 down and Linux automatically detects the "dead"

IMAPD fix for RH
You probably know this already, but the following notice appeared to bugtraq. As a side note the protocol on bugtraq seems to be designed to make a fix available before the announcement by providing one yourself or giving the maintainer a week's advance warning (M$ gets a lot longer warning and *still* fails to fix the bugs before bugtraq knows). Having said that M$ insists on allowing me

Is there a way to version the contents of a table as a set?
I am looking at using acts_as_versioned to manage revisions of data in several tables in my application. However, the default behavior of acts_as_versioned appears to apply to individual rows within a table. The tables I want to version are complicated lookup tables and what I really want is to version the entire contents of each table as a single set. Adding a row, deleting a row, or updating

[PATCH] curve25519-sha256@libssh.org key exchange proposal
Dear OpenSSH developers, I've worked this week on an alternative key exchange mechanism, in reaction to the whole NSA leaks and claims over cryptographic backdoors and/or cracking advances. The key exchange is in my opinion the most critical defense against passive eavesdropping attacks. I believe Curve25519 from DJB can give users a secure alternative to classical Diffie-Hellman (with fixed

Maildir unreliability
Looks like maildir can't be used very realiably without quite a lot of locking. Writing and scanning the directory would have to be locked, but reading wouldn't (as long as the file hasn't been renamed which would require scanning to find it). So much for "no locks needed".. The problem is that opendir()/readdir() may temporarily not return some files if there has been
