scp not tolerant of extraneous shell messages
I spent some time debugging a failing Scp that turned out to be caused by the remote shell producing messages on Standard Output that aren't part of the SCP protocol. Scp from a remote system works by running another Scp on the remote system. The remote Scp writes SCP protocol messages (and file data) to its Standard Output, which the local Scp sees as Standard Input. But it's

File permission umask howto?
I'm trying to figure out how to cause rsync to create the file on the backup server with 700 permission and specific owner "some_user" (not root) I try to do it in several way with no success. The command I'm using is: rsync -r -t -v -z /dir some_user@server::module so that it don't copy permission It always give the files 744 permission, that mean that every on can read

sftp/scp performance testing
Folks, I've noticed poor performance using sftp. If anyone has any advice on how to improve performance, I'd like to hear it. Test simply involved transferring a single 143MB MP3 file using defaults for all the program configs. The opensshd 3.0.2p1 server is used in all tests. Software: openssh suite 3.0.2p1 psftp (putty sftp client) latest dev snapshot pscp (putty scp client) latest

migration/acl4 problem
Hi, S10U3: It seems, that ufs POSIX-ACLs are not properly translated to zfs ACL4 entries, when one xfers a directory tree from UFS to ZFS. Test case: Assuming one has an user A and B, both belonging to group G and having their umask set to 022: 1) On UFS - as user A do: mkdir /dir chmod 0775 /dir setfacl -m d:u::rwx,d:g::rwx,d:o:r-x,d:m:rwx /dir # samba would

chmod sftp command and setgid/setuid bit
Hi OpenSSH developers, I'm using OpenSSH on a daily basis and I'm very pleased with the work you've done. I am contributing to some Open Source software hosted at Savannah https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/tsp and we recently hit some sftp unexpected behavior: https://savannah.gnu.org/support/?105838 when using chmod sftp client command it appears that setuid / setgid bits are

umask setting in /etc/profile not working
Hey all, We have the following set in /etc/profile : umask 0002 so that it will affect all users. That should create all files as 664 and all directories as 775 if I'm not mistaken. Well I logged into the machine after this was set and just created a file as one of the users who complained about permissions settings on files. And this is what I saw: [user1 at qa_host ~]$ ls -l test_qa

allowing users to write to a web content area
Hello, I've got apache running on a centos 5.6 machine. All of my users have a umask of 077 set in /etc/bashrc. I'm now wanting to give several of them permission to write to a web area so they can place content visible to the web server. I've got two groups webdev1 and webdev2 which I want one to be able to write to site1 and the other to site2. I've got between 3 and 5 users in

openssh cross compilation issue
Hi, I'm cross compiling openSSH-6.2p1 on a ARM architecture with zlib-1.2.7 openssl-1.0.1e the compilation succeeds but when I launch sftp x.y.z.t it fails: exec: /home/working_area/disk1/usr/bin/ssh: No such file or directory the problem is that /home/working_area/disk1/ is the path within the host PC Is there a way to fix the cross-compilation or to export a variable in the target

RC15 problems with dovecot-shared and umask distilled
I recently posted about problems I've been having with dovecot-shared and umask in RC15 (using Solaris 9). I've now been able to distill what I'm experiencing into these two separate points: 1. dovecot-uidlist and message files never inherit the dovecot-shared group 2. With umask=0007 these files are created with mode 600 instead of 660: dovecot-uidlist, dovecot.index,

OpenSSH ControlAllowUsers, et al Patch
Attached (and inline) is a patch to add the following config options: ControlBindMask ControlAllowUsers ControlAllowGroups ControlDenyUsers ControlDenyGroups It pulls the peer credential check from client_process_control() in ssh.c, and expounds upon it in a new function, client_control_grant(). Supplemental groups are not checked in this patch. I didn't feel comfortable taking a shot

File creation mode in Rails + Unicorn
Hi, I''m currently giving Nginx + Unicorn a try, to eventually replace Apache + Passenger. So far so good. I have a Rails 3.2.5 app behind Unicorn, itself behind Nginx. In this Rails app, I have set page caching for some resources. They are created in Rails.root/public/ to be directly available to Nginx. When I first hit such a page, the static cache file is not present, so the Rails

ForceCommand /usr/bin/log-session.sh The Log Session Script itself is working fine for logging. But now I want also use SCP to copy files and this won't work together with the ForceCommand above. Not preserving permissions really preserves some
This appears to be a feature :-) I'm running rsync 2.5.5 on Solaris 8, and testing transferring files between two boxes with permission preservation turned *off*. I have three files: 700 with permissions 700 770 with permissions 770 777 with permissions 770 The umask for the target system is set to: 007 [I have checked this via prints from the rsync code] When the files get transferred,

Permission issue while using rsync.
Hi, Until now we have been using rsync with SSH for copying data across different sites. They are bundled within wrappers and are circulated thru' cronjobs. All the sites exchange data in this way. It is working fine in all the sites, but except for 1 site. It transfers the files fine, but it changes the permissions on the files. It does'nt retain it as per the source nor as per the umask

[PATCH/cygwin]: Fix Makefiles
Hi, below is a patch which only affects Cygwin. It adds the $(EXEEXT) suffix in calls to install, and it fixes the list of documentation files to install into /usr/share/doc/openssh in a Cygwin installation. Thanks, Corinna Index: Makefile.in =================================================================== RCS file: /cvs/openssh/Makefile.in,v retrieving revision 1.306 diff -u -p -r1.306
