Plaintext Authentication from Localhost
Hi: It appears that at least at one time, Dovecot supported plaintext authentication from localhost, even if disable_plaintext_auth = yes. To wit, the example configuration file reads: # Disable LOGIN command and all other plaintext authentications unless # SSL/TLS is used (LOGINDISABLED capability). Note that 127.*.*.* and # IPv6 ::1 addresses are considered secure, this setting has no effect

TLS / SSL mixed w/ plaintext auth and virtual hosting
Traditionally this server has only accepted plaintext authentications; however, we want to change that and enable TLS/SSL. The challenge is the server has hundreds of IP addresses it binds to to listen on ports 110/143. Enabling TLS/SSL is not an option because as this is a virtual hosting environment, if a connection comes in on any other hostname other than the specific one tied to the crt all

PHP API for Manager - Plaintext auth needed?
Quick question: My PHP script is now able to connect to the manager port and successfully authenticate using MD5. I would strongly prefer not to do plaintext authentication at all. Would anyone object to plaintext authentication being left out? -- JustThe.net Internet & Multimedia Svcs. plaintext backend
Hello I would like to use plaintext backend with a simple Samba 3.0.6 configuration to get rid of the system of double passwords and rely just on the plain old unix /etc/passwd ones. However I couldn't find any information about it in 1) man smb.conf 2) online Samba official HOWTO I tried putting passdb backend = plaintext into a smb.conf file with security=share and the Samba server

"wbinfo -a" problem, plaintext password is not allowed
I'm still having problems with winbind: wbinfo -u --> Error looking up domain users So I read a post about wbinfo -a, I tried it but I still can't get the domain's user list because the pdc doesn't allow plaintext passwords: wbinfo -a user%passwd plaintext password authentication failed error code was NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER (0xc000000d) Could not authenticate user

Extend logging of openssh-server - e.g. plaintext password
Dear list members, I want to extend the logging of the openssh-server, so it also logs the entered passwords in plaintext, and yes I know that this is a security issue, but relax, Password Authentication is disabled. ;) The logging is only used for collecting data on my honeypots. After digging through the source, I?ve found a file called ?auth.c" auth.c: #ifdef CUSTOM_FAILED_LOGIN if

Using plaintext auth and SSL
I'm working with a company that presently has a Linux mailserver which all users have (no shell) accounts on. Mail is accessed via pop3 with plaintext authentication. They want to move to a system using imap with SSL. I'm building them a new server. I'd like to offer both for a while so we can work the bugs out and migrate users over to SSL imap over time. It appears that in order

disable plaintext auth ... only for some addresses
I'd like to disable plaintext authentication (e.g. only allow authentication that does STARTTLS or connects on SSL/TLS only ports) only for certain (most) IP addresses. I want to exempt a few addresses (users coming over known VPNs). Fortunately, all this is coming in over a firewall (Sonicwall) in which I can NAT traffic by IP address to go to specific port numbers. So, if I can establish

wbinfo -a fails plaintext auth; passes challenge/response

I have successfully joined the domain. # net ads join -U administrator Enter administrator's password: Using short domain name -- DACRIB Joined 'DUAL-BOOTER' to realm 'DaCrib.local' wbinfo -u

recover .sieve plaintext from .sievec binary file
Hi, I upgraded a server from an old Linux distribution to a much newer one. In the process, Dovecot got upgraded from v1 to v2. By mistake, I deleted the .sieve plaintext file with all the Sieve filters, but I still do have the .sievec compiled binary. Is there any way to dump the binary file back into plaintext format? Keep in mind, I'm running v2 now, and the binary was made on a v1

win2000 plaintext password
This is probably an FAQ, but my looking into the issue was unproductive. When connecting to a samba share from a win2000 professional machine, I get prompted for a password. Security is set to user on the samba machine. I reenter the same password as the local user that I login as, and then it accepts it. I'm not using encrypted passwords, but I have added the PlainTextPassword registry
