Login with firstname.lastname instead of loginname - WORKING
3 years ago (!) I aksed about this and finally I implemented it today: >> # NEW >> passdb { >> driver = passwd >> # firstname.lastname at charite.de:password:uid:gid:(gecos):home:(shell):user=realloginname >> args = /usr/local/etc/dovecot.login_via_email >> } >If you're only using it as a passdb, you don't need the uid/gid/home.

2.6.21: ext3 related crash
One of our squid proxies crashed today. I was able to make a screenshot of it's last utterings - and since ext3 is being mentioned there, I thought I'd mention it here: http://www.arschkrebs.de/images/proxy-cbf-2-crash.png # uname -a Linux proxy-cbf-2 2.6.21 #1 SMP Thu Apr 26 11:17:54 CEST 2007 i686 GNU/Linux # mount /dev/cciss/c0d0p5 on / type auto (rw,errors=remount-ro) tmpfs on

Cyrus firstname.lastname@domain
I'm converting an environment from mandrake to centos, and always try to use the applications standard on the distribution. This means a switch from courier to cyrus. A bit of reading uncovered a potential problem - the site uses firstname.lastname at domain, and I have come across references that Cyrus does not support this. I couldn't find this limitation in the Cyrus

Sendmail + dovecot-lda + LDAP
Hi, I experince some problems with setting up Sendmail with the LDAP database for virtual mail accounts. Why i'm not writing to the LDAP mailing list? I believe, that the reason of my problem is in configuring dovecot-deliver. What i have: ?- FreeBSD ?- sendmail (Version 8.14.4 with LDAP support installed from ports)? ?- Dovecot LDA + dovecot (as pop3/imap) ?- Cyrus Sasl (authdaemon for

dovecot and firstname.initial.lastname mbox format archive
hi Today I have been in a puzzling fight with 2 dovecot versions that I would like to ask some comments on. The situation is this: - I have a considerable mail archive in mbox format (yes, I know, but that is what I have..). - My mail reader is mutt 1.5.20 by the way. - Some of these mbox files have names like firstname.initial.lastname Note the . seperating the parts of the email-ers name.

w.r.t. firstname lastname
I try not to post my real name on the internet. I'm basically asking for commit access for user sub page space for formatting, & staging of documents for management review. When I'm actually @ linbit ill probably start the motions to have an official account something like "linbit-usa" to publish the works under. I'm used to mediawiki, moinmoin wiki is new to me.

Loginname - mapping
Hi! I have a server with a few thousand mailboxes (for a few hundred domains) on it. The usernames are following several naming conventions: username_domain domain_username username_domain.tld username-domain domain.username The reason for this chaos is that the accounts were set up on different mailservers, some imail, some linux, some with virtualmin and some manually and

simple steps with sieve
Today is my first day with sieve, so be gentle :) I'm trying to set up a pretty webmail interface to our Dovecot 1.2.4 server using roundcube. The managesieve config + roundcube 'managesieve' plugin work fine, and I'm able to use roundcube's UI to generate .dovecot.sieve files. We use winbind + LDAP lookups to do some exotic mail rewriting... ultimately user.name at domain.com

RFC: Tuning ext3
All, I'm requesting comments from the expert readers of ext3-users on these notes for tuning ext3 for performance. Most helpful would be feedback pertinent to RHEL 5; as XFS isn't supported under Red Hat Enterprise Linux these items are an attempt to match XFS performance with ext3. These items were culled from a number of sources. Will they be effective for achieving the performance

SASL from remote server
Is there a way, using Dovecot and Postfix, to use SASL from a remote server? Since it appears the communication uses Unix sockets, does this mean it is restricted to local services only? I have a two-server configuration, where my firewall also runs the mail gateway/filter (Postfix + ASSP). My internal server has Postfix + Dovecot. Right now I have my internal server configured to use

Postfix+maildrop+deliver?
Hello, I currently use procmail without the deliver LDA but would like to switch to using deliver. I also would like to get away from procmail for various reasons. Otherwise I could use the procmail-patch from http://dovecot.org/pipermail/dovecot/2006-July/014656.html AFAICS. I don't want to use sieve because it's too limited and can't see a similar patch like the one for
