acts_as_list, move_higher, odd indexing behaviour?
Hi, [reposting to list, posting via google groups apparently didn''t work] I''m trying to use acts_as_list for the first time. Can anyone confirm the odd behaviour reported here? http://blog.nominet.org.uk/tech/Web/2006/03/06/Using_acts_as_list_in_... i.e. element access and move_higher require an odd indexing scheme to work. I''m personally finding that I

How to avoid bunch of <% %> ??
Hello, I would like to know is there is a way to avoid poluting the views with tons of <% %> ? Like this <%= start_form_tag() %> <%= text_field_tag(''category[title]'', category.title, {:size => 20, :maxlength => 128}) %> <% if not category.parent_id.nil? %> <%= select("category", "parent_id", Category.find(:all,

splitting a story with double-spaced para''s
Quick question - if i want to separate a long string of text, separated by single carriage returns, into an array of paragraphs, I can use the following code: paragraphs = article.content.split("\n") The "\n" means a carriage return, as far as I can tell. If I wanted to take text, that had been written using the more common double carriage returns, into an array of

OpenSSH v6.7 & NumberOfPasswordPrompts Option ...
Yes, I have tried that option with no difference in behavior. It seems it ignores that option when provided. Just for reference, I am building it on RedHat 5. I have never had this issue on any previous version of OpenSSH. I use the default configuration with only the changes specified in the RHEL 5 STIG applied. I appreciate the security advice. The root account was indicated simply as an

using select() to relate tables
I''m sorry to be asking trivial questions, but I''m new to RoR and am hooked :), so I''m very impatient to get things up and running. given two related tables, "pcs" and "venues" (venues have many PC''s and each PC belongs to one venue only) I can use a select() to present venue names in the "new PC" form along with other PC details to

Firefox won''t let me send ''&'' with AJAX!
Hi everyone, I''ve encountered a HUGE problem, which may not be RoR-oriented, but there might be a workaround somehow. See, at this moment, I''m unable to send AJAX requests back and forth when the information contains an ampersand (''&''). In essence, request is never completed. The odd thing is that it only happens with Firefox (IE and Opera works fine).

Sudo #includedir function ignored CentOS 6
I am unable to get the #includedir function to work with sudo. This works just fine on all my CentOS 5.6 servers, but on 6 it is being ignored. I have this line in the file /etc/sudoers.d/zabbix-puppet zabbix ALL=NOPASSWD: /var/lib/zabbix/bin/start_puppet However sudo still requires a password. If I put that same line into /etc/sudoers file , there is no password prompt. At the end of my

Running Apache sites as separate users
I had a recent request to improve security on my web servers by having each website use a different user to run the hosting service. So example1.comhas it's own Apache instance running as apache1 and then example2.com has its own instance of Apache as apache2. Is this even possible or realistic? I understand the idea of how that would be secure, much like creating a virtual machine to

'service' command not present
I just did an install of CentOS 5 on one of my machines. However, when I try to use the 'service' command (such as 'service httpd start') I get an error that the service command is not found. Why would that be? Where does this command come from? I can launch the services just fine using the respective /etc/init.d/ entries. -- Cheers, Trey ---- Dieters live life in the

using a loop with an integration
Hi, all. I've written a function that returns the survival function for a Gompertz mortality model. I've specified the two model parameters. Using a simple integration, I can calculate the life expectancy at any age. Is there a way I can use a loop with the integration that will quickly return life expectancy over a range of ages, say 0 to 80, so that I don't have to manually type

splitting a paragraph into words and spaces
I''m using this: <% words = article.content.split(/ /) %> <%= words[0..20] %> to (ostensibly) split a paragraph into component words, with spaces in between, then print to html only the first 20 items, words and spaces. I got this (split(/ /)) from the online pickaxe book at http://rubycentral.com/book/ref_c_string.html#String.split . The problem is, the resulting array

ActiveRecord find all based on array -- need ids from array
Does anyone know if it is possible to perform an ActiveRecord find by passing in an array? I would like to be able to do the following: MyModel.find(:all, :conditions => ["user_id in (?)", users]) The problem I run into is that the returned SQL contains the to_s() output of the User object, not the ids of those users. Is it possible to change this behavior? I attempted to

PXE-capable NIC listing?
Trey, The Compaq NC7770 PCI-X Gigabit Server Adapter supports PXE: http://www.compaq.com/products/servers/networking/NC7770/ This NIC will be available next month. Also, our strategy is to support PXE on all ProLiant server embedded NICs (10/100/1000) beginning with G2 (generation2) models. Also, most existing DL and all BL servers currently support PXE on their embedded (10/100) NICs. Let
