Forcibly emptying a POP3 mailbox
Hello,
I've recently saw a discussion on this list, about a standardised way of
emptying POP3 mailboxes on the server - but no solution came up.
Please provide a suggestion for the following situation:
- I am running a stock POP3 dovecot server, on Fedora 12 (dovecot
version 1.2.9)
- passwd-file authentication via /etc/imap.passwd
- users are virtual, sharing the same UID/GID;

"maildir_empty_new = yes" not working
I need for my dovecot-uidlist to be updated with next id when new email arrives (moved from new/ to cur/).
This only happens now when I check for new email with my client.
Setting maildir_empty_new = yes is not working. Do I have to uncomment something else as well maybe?
I want to do some proemial pipe lets say for 10 emails. All of them will have same UID since dovecot-uidlist is not updated.

Dovecot says the message was stored into a Spam mailbox but it's not there
Hi,
I have a problem with storing messages into a Spam folder by dovecot.
Log says that message was stored into Spam mailbox but when I check
there is no message in users's Spam mailbox.

dovecot replication - new and cur folders on mx1 and mx2
Hello,
I have a question in regards to specific dovecot replication behaviour
and I'm just wondering if this is actually an expected/normal behaviour,
or just a version issue.
I'm using dovecot 2.3.16 which is packed by default with latest Ubuntu
22.04.1 LTS server release. I setup dovecot replication pair (mx1 - mx2)
which is working ok. MX1 has priority 10, MX2 has priority 20. I

dovecot replication - new and cur folders on mx1 and mx2
I can confirm this in a slightly different setting, but still using two-way sync between two dovecots. On e is 2.3.19.1 running on macOS Monterey, the other is 2.3.20 running in an alpine container on Ubuntu.

dovecot replication - new and cur folders on mx1 and mx2
It might have a noticeable effect on clients.
I encountered (probably triggered by this in some way?) that I was unable to het the 'read' bit set in macOS Mail.app. Maybe (as I am doing HA with round robin) the Mail.app client got to one dovecot repository on one tcp connection and then on the other.
Is there a reason why syncing tis move from new to cur is a bad idea?

imapc with Outlook.com transfers max 22-23 messages per mailbox!?
Hi,
I'm trying to migrate a user from Outlook.com IMAP to Dovecot. I'm
using a setup similar to that on

imapc_user = [...]@hotmail.com
imapc_password = [...]
imapc_features = rfc822.size fetch-headers
mail_prefetch_count = 20

Looks like a bug to me: Dovecot ignores Maildir/new timestamp
Hello!
I run Debian jessie and have an issue with the interaction between
Dovecot (2.2.13), Mutt (1.5.23) and the Android Gmail (5.8.105868218)
IMAP client, when using Maildir:
I use Dovecot LMTP for local delivery into Maildir and access these
files both through Dovecot IMAP from the Android Gmail IMAP client and
also directly through the filesystem by running Mutt locally on the mail
server.

Expunged message reappeared, giving a new UID
I am running dovecot 2.2.2 with tcp based replication, and experiencing
some duplicated emails. `doveconf -n` output is below.
I have narrowed it down to the following scenario:
An email arrives, and is successfully replicated to both nodes. It is in
INBOX/new/ at this point on both servers.
Connect with a mail client, and delete the message - without delayed
expunge. So, for example, mutt

Sharing nested folders / maildir variations?
Hey all,
So I've got a shared namespace in dovecot where users can, via a
custom control panel, share their folders into (which creates a
symlink) in order to allow anyone on their domain to access it. I
store mail in maildir.
The issue is that when people share folders, they expect that when
they make subfolders, those are automatically shared as they are
contained within it.

0 mails available even if mails in mailbox
Hello
We are currently facing the problem, that dovecot doesn't return any
messages (Pop3: +OK 0 messages) even if there are messages in the cur
and new directory (maildir format). The logfile does not contain any
information other than login/logout.
After I deleted the dovecot.index file, all messages are available and
everything works as expected. According to the wiki page [1] the

shared mailbox - namespace
Hi all,
this is my last try to get help before giving up. I red the dovecot-wiki
several times, but it doesn?t work.
I don?t know what?s wrong. If I open thunderbird I see the folder
"public" but I cannot subscribe it.
I have dovecot 1.0.10. Yes it?s a little bit old but it is the latest
version under debian packages.
Please see my configuration below.

quota rules for mail users
Dear All,
Is it possible to make quota rules under $HOME/Maildir/* mailboxes with
a specific command such as 'edquota' when the first email arrives at the
$HOME/Maildir/{new,cur,tmp} of a user. In the below example, the <UserB>
is the one who gets an email for the first time.
edquota -p <UserA> <UserB>
---man edquot---
-p, --prototype=protoname

problem with folder creation
I am running dovecot 1.2.12 on Free BSD 8.1. We also have postfix and a version of squirrelmail for the UI. We are using MySql database to store the email account info. I wrote a script to insert about 100K users into mysql. Those accounts seem to work well
and I'm able to see things like 'Drafts', 'Trash' and 'Sent'. Now I am working on code to create new accounts -

Convert plugin
Hi,
I'm trying to convert users from a sendmail server to a postfix/dovecot
server. All works fine but one of the last things is to rescue the
messages in /var/mail/<user> on the old server. This seems very
straitforward using the convert plugin but with the settings from the
wiki, nothing happens when the user logs in. Do I need a private
namespace for this as suggested elsewhere
