RJS templates for DOM manipulation
I want to do some DOM manipulation with JavaScript. Specifically I
want to implement zoom in/out in a picture by changing it''s
width/height attributes. Is it possible to do this using RJS or should
I write javascript by hand?
All the examples of RJS I''ve seen write the javascript in the result
of an AJAX remote call. Where are the docs for RJS? All I''ve seen are

controller is to app.rb ; view is to layout folder ; rjs template is to ??
any help with this analogy? i have an rjs template that goes along with a method
i have in application.rb and the functionality will be used from many diff
controllers (the method take a tag as param to accomplish some AJAX
acrobatics).. just trying to stay DRY here. is there no other way other than
sticking the same rjs template in each view folder that uses this functionality?

pulling information from LDAP server using Ruby on Rails
Hello, I am currently working on a project using Ruby on Rails. So far,
I have a well-populated mySQL database the RoR refers to and the basic
scaffolding functions implemented. I also designed views/layouts that
furthers the basic scaffolding interface. No problem and no big
accomplishment by any means.
Now, I want to pull user information from an already existing LDAP
server and put that

Ferret::StateError while using acts_as_ferret
I''m fairly new to ferret / aaf and finding it much easier to use than
HyperEstraier (which I migrated from). However, I am getting a few
errors and I need to figure out if they''re problems with my usage of
ferret or a bug I should report. I''m currently running Ferret 0.10.11
with acts_as_ferret (latest via svn external) and 3 times today I''ve
seen the

Use collection_select
I use the following code in my view:
<%= collection_select(''datedata'', ''date'', @allDate, :id, :date) %>
It''s show me the date of all entries in the database (Dropdown menu).
Additional, I wrote a helper method "showDate" in the
application_helper.rb! How can I use this method in the
collection_select for every date entry?
thanks

Fragment Caching
Hello.
I wouldn''t mind getting some feedback about the use of fragment
caching. I''ve got a series of relatively expensive database queries
with their respective partials cached and everything is working fine.
The problem is that do get this to work I''ve had to move the database
queries from the controller into the view layer so as to avoid them
being called if the

lanyrd site for useR! 2012
There's now a page on lanyrd ("the social conference directory") for
useR! 2012 in Nashville:
http://lanyrd.com/2012/useR/
its basically a site for making social mini-networks for conferences,
so people can post up links, share photos, list talks, etc.
If people going sign up then it'll look a lot better than UseR! 2011,
where only three people seemed to have attended - but

A quiet Samba ??
Hello Family,
Our sysadmin at work demands that no one have any Samba projects
other than the single one on our network due to the "NOISE" that is
emitted by Samba.
[question]
Can I still use the current 2.2.2 with my little test setup and not
fall prey to the order to "cease and desist" Samba ?
It's one Solaris-8(Intel) and Win2000 and Win98, three total
machines.

Samba connections issues (3.0.23 on Solaris 8 with NIS+)
I'm curious if anyone has suggestions about a problem we have encountered.
We have recently upgraded a 2.2.8a server to 3.0.23. The server in question
is running Solaris 8 with NIS+. Storage is from our SAN. Since the
migration, we have found that we no longer have access to several shares.
They are connected, but we are unable to get to them.
Samba will indicate that we are connected to

calling fortran functions CHOL and DPOTRF form Fortran
Hi all,
I'm working out some Fortran code for which
I want to compute the Choleski decomposition of a covariance matrix
in Fortran.
I tried to do it by two methods :
1) Calling the lapack function DPOTRF.
I can see the source code and check that my call is correct,
but it does not compile with:
system("R CMD SHLIB ~/main.f")
dyn.load("~/main.so")
I get:

acts_as_taggable plugin to tag multiple fields in a model
Hello,
Is it possible to tag multiple fields in a model using either
acts_as_taggable plugin or gem? If it is not possible out of the box, can
anyone provide pointers on how I would achieve something like that?
Say I have a ''Food'' model which has ''spices'' and ''healthiness'' attributes.
I want to be able to tag on both those fields. Is that
