Maildir with INBOX and other folders at same level
Hello- I have set up Dovecot before and feel fairly comfortable with it but am having some issues with a new setup and have not been able to find a solution via Google or the list archives. I use offlineiimap to sync an IMAP account with an email provider. After the sync is complete, my ~/Maildir is set up with a folder called INBOX (with cur, new, tmp inside) and all my other folders set up at

v1.1 plans
I think I won't do any actual releases until it's mostly feature complete. Then maybe v1.1.alpha1 or v1.1.beta1. So if you want to test it before then, use CVS or the nightly snapshots. I'm planning on keeping v1.1 almost completely compatible with v1.0. There could be some minor configuration file changes, but for most people v1.0's dovecot.conf should work with v1.1. I want to

Hi all, I encountered a bug, that prevents me from moving mail and as a side effect it messes up all thunderbird/mozilla mail clients (they won't do any message copy/move until I restart them). Here is the info and the header of the mail that produces the error (a spam mail): Dovecot version: 1.0.0 Mail header: Return-Path: <xxdwwu at boboakes.com> Delivered-To: bgs-hu-bgs at

Plugin development question
Hello, >From what I have read on the dovecot site, it's possible to create a plugin for a custom data store format. We have emails in a custom format in a database and would like to create a plugin for accessing these emails through dovecot. Is there any supporting documentation from creating a plugin like this? Are there any samples? TIA, Gary

shared mailboxes question
I'm using a virtual mailbox setup. Lets say my users have mailboxes in /home/vmail/domain/%u. What I'm trying to do is setup one namespace that points to /home/vmail/domain and contains everyones mailboxes that I can subscribe to. Is this possible? I tried using a symlink to /home/vmail/domain but it doesn't work because its looking for the dotFoldername. The only way I could

Maildir Subsystems
Greetings - new to the list, so apologies of I'm asking questions that have been brought up before. I work for a large email provider, currently using qmail, vpopmail and courier-imap. We tend to make fairly regular customizations of the software, and if you folks have any knowledge of courier's code layout, you probably can understand why we hate working on it. Anyway, I am looking at

Courier migrating issues: indexes, maildirsize, update query
Hi, (my first post to the list) I'm in the process of testing Dovecot to see whether it meets our needs to replace our current Courier setup which serves well over 100.000 mailboxes (pop3 and imap: mysql with NFS) So far dovecot seems pretty straight forward; however I ran into a couple of things that I'm curious about. 1. What's the deal with

New Mailbox Format Plugin Help
I would like to develop a new mailbox format for a very specialized application. Can anyone point me in the appropriate direction to get started writing a plugin? More detail for anyone interested: I need to store mail in a format that's quickly accessible and modifiable to an external process. This is for a very low-volume mail system (averaging less than 50 messages stored at any one

Finally upgrading from v1.0.15 to v1.2.16 -- advice please
It's long over due, but now I finally plan on upgrading from v1.0.15 to v1.2.16 on our servers. Would appreciate any comments! We have 7 servers, all running of the same GPFS filesystem. Both maildirs and indexes are stored here. We use dovecot for POP/IMAP and deliver. Currently we're using mysql as authentication source, but want to move to using ldap instead. Can we upgrade one server
