Dovecot Authentication Problem (REVISED)
Hello List, I am back again and I think I am edging closer to getting a solution. I have done some modifications and now dovecot gives me a different error message than before.... Here is what I have for the password_query and user_query password_query = SELECT popbox.cleartext AS password FROM popbox, domain \ WHERE popbox.local_part = 'eddie' AND popbox.domain_name =

Migration from tpop3d to dovecot - troubles galore!
Hi people, I am trying to migrate some users from tpop3d (Maildir mailboxes) to dovecot. The most important aspect of this migration, and which I cannot seem to get right, is to first be able to make dovecot to authenticate against the current DB being used by tpop3d so that I can use imapsync to transfer the user mails. And I do believe that is what I am unable to get right!! So here goes what

Weird DISKS behaviour on 4.8-STABLE
Hello people, I have been experiencing a weird problem with 4.8-STABLE for a long time. I was ignoring it, thinking that it was a problem with the SCSI disks or perhaps the contoller. I changed the disks from the original Intel box to a Compaq box and I still noticed the problem was there. What happened is that all of a sudden, the disk would 'fill' up with nothing! Yes, that's true.

Restricting Services (POP or IMAP)
It would be great to have a HOWTO in the wiki, on how to restrict services by username in dovecot, so some users are allowed IMAP and others not allowed. As concerns restricting users by IP, I believe that is a bad idea. It's almost a useless idea, imnsho, because they can connect from another IP. It's easy to restrict services by IP using a firewall or by using inetd. -Wash

1.0rc7 - dumb question
I am configuring dovecot 1.0rc7 to authenticate users (system users) in /etc/passwd. Is it possible to use a different auth mechanism, other than "plain", when the encrypted password is in /etc/master.passwd (BSD style)? -Wash http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html DISCLAIMER: See http://www.wananchi.com/bms/terms.php --

Dovecot LDA, quota, sieve
Hi, While moving services to a new server, I finally decided to switch from exim + procmail delivery to exim + dovecot-LDA (dovecot 1.2.5). All accounts are virtual - their settings are stored in mysql. This also includes configuring Quota and Sieve. So... there come some doubts: 1. Using "deliver" As I see, deliver uses auth-master socket to retrieve the mailbox settings

I guess my question to the group is, how do you guys backup Maildir? whats the best way of doing it? -- Gabe Granger Pancentric results-driven

dovecot with Calendar or Contacts?
When I attempted to import my Contacts list into dovecot, my mail client told me that the IMAP server did not support "Special" folders. Is there a way to to do the contacts, or sync up Contacts & Calendar from a database or something else? I'm using both Thunderbird and Outlook. Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Real and Virtual Users + Domains
I have seen a few suggestions on how to address the issue of a system employing both real and virtual users and domains. Is there any definitive solution as to how this should be accomplished? The system I am construction will have several hundred users, both real and virtual, and probably seven domains. I plan on using MySQL to handle the user names and passwords. -- Gerard "Seen it

BZIP2 Support in the Base system
The FreeBSD 4.x (4.8-STABLE) has contributed sources for BZIP2 in the base system under /usr/src/contrib/bzip2. My problem is that I am not succeeding in building these sources for some strange reason. Some apps that I run would do well if I could get to install these success- fully. If there is anyone has succeeded, I'd highly appreciate the steps they went through to get bzip2 to build.

Dovecot hung or what?
Here is my first major problem with dovecot. I am running rc15 on FreeBSD 6.1. I run dovecot supervised by DJB's daemontools. I run only the pop3 service. A colleague informed me that pop3 service was simply not responding. They could not rcv mail. When I checked the server, tail-ing dovecot.log, here is what was scrolling: [wash at nbi ~]$ tail -f /var/log/dovecot.log dovecot: Nov 23
