Migration from Courier to dovecot
hi list,
I've just registered to the list, so please be tolerant ;) I'm currently
in the process of planning the migration from courier to dovecot as
POP/IMAP-Server. I'm migration from Courier 0.58 (Debian-Etch-packages)
to Dovecot 1.1.13 (Debian Lenny Backport).
The conversion of the Mailbox from Courier to Dovecot will be done with
"courier-dovecot-migrate.pl"-script[1],

replacement for IMAP_EMPTYTRASH=Trash:7
While running dovecot on debian etch using version 1.0.rc15-2etch3, i wonder
the following:
If i read the config files correctly, dovecot seems to have no equivalent of
courier's IMAP_EMPTYTRASH=Trash:7 setting.
Therefore, i wrote a script that dives into the user's directories and their
maildirs. It looks like this:

#!/bin/bash

Some of my IMAP Folders vanished in some MUAs
Hi,
I'm using dovecot for some time now. Previously I was using Courier and I've
migrated this setup to dovecot which went pretty fine.
Now I'm experiencing some strange behaviour when using some newer mail
clients. Some of my Folders, like "spam", are vanished.
The strange point is that it only happens in some clients, like Thunderbird
2.x+ or KMail 3.5.x. In others,

auto Cc: with dovecot+mysql
hi,
i'm migrating 1 mail-server from LDAP+postfix+courier to
mysql+postfixadmin+dovecot,
on a debian etch machine i have followed this howto :
http://wiki.dovecot.org/HowTo/DovecotLDAPostfixAdminMySQL
(changed uid and gid for usage in debian, the SVN-postfixadmin
didn't work for me, so i used the stable version, and haven't tested the
SASL-part yet)
this works great, except the

# echo 'SHARE /home/shared ' > /etc/courier/maildirshared
(use tabcode)
3) edit imapd config file
IMAP_UMASK=022

Maildir quotas support in Dovecot and 2 other newbie questions
I am not familiar with all the features that Dovecot has, but I am
familiar with Courier IMAP using Maildir.
Does Dovedot have a software based Maildir supporting quota program like
Courier IMAP ?
Can maildrop be used with Dovecot for quotas ?
Courier IMAP has maildrop integrated.
- If maildrop support is turned on in Courier IMAP, then
a user will get a quota warning mail message

Maildir migration: Courier-imap 4.4.3 to Dovecot 1.2.
Hi all.
I am currently gathering information about migration of Maildir/
structures from Courier to Dovecot.
What do you think about http://wiki.dovecot.org/Migration/Courier ?
For each courier Maildir account I want to use
http://www.dovecot.org/tools/courier-dovecot-migrate.pl to produce
dovecot-uidlist file
mv courierimapsubscribed subscriptions
sed sed -i 's/INBOX\.//' subscriptions

Maildir Subsystems
Greetings - new to the list, so apologies of I'm asking questions that
have been brought up before.
I work for a large email provider, currently using qmail, vpopmail and
courier-imap. We tend to make fairly regular customizations of the
software, and if you folks have any knowledge of courier's code
layout, you probably can understand why we hate working on it.
Anyway, I am looking at

Maildir subfolder conversion from courier-imap
Hello,
I am trying to convert a maildir that was managed by courier-imap up to
now to dovecot. I am using the courier-dovecot-migrate.pl script as follows:
courier-dovecot-migrate.pl --convert --recursive ~/Maildir
However, this command only seems to convert the base maildir, but not
all the subfolders. I thought that that's what the --recursive option
was for.
Is the command above

Installing/configuring TE120P debian way
Hi all
I use asterisk (1.2 brach) from debian official packages and it works fine.
Now I need to install and configure a Digium TE120P card, but I cannot
find any guide to install it using debian packages.
I would like to know if anyone of you knows about packages that would
include the necessary kernel modules or any other method that won't be
broken when the asterisk packages are updated.

samba (vs. nfs) in all unix environment
Hi,
I'm sorry if this is a very FAQ, I've been googling around and searchin'
the list archive and I'll gladly accept RTFMs with somehow precise URLs
(including URLs to the list archives).
I'm on the drawing board (no equipment yet) for a server farm that will
have a SteelEye linux cluster behind to provide (among other services)
with networked file access.
The setup is

new flags in Maildir files
Sorry if this is a dumb question:
I migrated my third system from courier to dovecot. My previous two
were MacOSX the third is FreeBSD 6.
I noticed (because of an rsync process taking longer than usual...)
that on FreeBSD the message files have, most of them at least, gained
extra suffix letters (in the range a-h I'd say) that I do not see
(mostly if not at all) on my MacOS systems. I

Speed and memory probs writing large Maildir
I have Dovecot 0.99.9.1 compiled from the source, without SSL, running
on a Red Hat 9.0 system - EXT3 file system, Pentium Pro 233 MHz, Intel
motherboard, 128M RAM, IBM 40Gig 7200 RPM HD. I find reading and
searching to be nice and fast, and comparing it with Courier IMAP on a
Celeron 824 MHz, I think Dovecot is generally not much slower, which
means it may well be faster than Courier in some or

Dovecot / FreeBSD / Nfs mailstore / Index=memory
Hello,
I have recently changed imap from Courier-imap to dovecot because of
serial problems with courier-imap, I have being forced to do it very
quickly... and without extensives tests.
I have 3 mails servers (freebsd based) behind a load balancer and a
nfs mailstore on a netapp.
On my first tests I have setup the index into some nfs shared mount,
but it seems that some imap clients are

Poor pop3 over nfs performance
Hi,
About a week ago I upgraded our reasonably heavily loaded mail servers
from a pretty recent courier version to dovecot-1.1rc10. IMAP
performance on dovecot is amazing, however POP3 performance is worse
than courier :-( I have uploaded some munin graphs taken today to
http://linweb.atlas.pipex.net/dovecot/; the dovecot server is handling
about 2000 pop logins/sec and 300 imap sessions (but

Broken Header uidvalidity problem after upgrade
Hi, we use a current Debian etch distribution as basis for our servers,
which are running within a vmware server environment. Our current
configuration consists of a dovecot server with imap enabled and a ldap
based authentication. Mails are stored using the Maildir format on a
central nfs store. We do not use any virtual mailboxes.
Since upgrading from dovecot version 1.0.rc15 (debian

Maildir migration - using separate INDEX and CONTROL directories?
Hi all,
I'm working on a migration from Courier to Dovecot, and the
courier-dovecot-migrate.pl seems to work ok, but it puts all the
metadata files (dovecot-uidlist etc) in the Maildir, while I want to put
them in the appropriate places as specified:
mail_location =
maildir:~/Maildir:INDEX=/var/mail/meta/index/%d/%1n/%1.1n/%n:CONTROL=/var/mail/meta/control/%d/%1n/%1.1n/%n

NFS dont''s start at boottime
Hallo,
I''m running Xen 3 (xen-unstable tarball from 4/27) with kernel 2.6.16
and Debian Etch in all domains. Most things seem to work very well.
But I have some problems with NFS in domU. The NFS-Server started at
boot time but I cant''t access to the shares from a client.

. (dot) in maildir folder names
Hi.
Uhm... yeah as the topic implies I want to have . (dots) in my folder
names...
Unfortunately dovecot's maildirmake hasn't a -f switch as the one from
courier/maildrop, but that one in turn is buggy[0] and doesn't encode
any characters at all.
In principle, maildir++ should allow[1] having (encoded) dots in folder
names,... but I don't quite understand how the encoding
