Inbox re-initialized
Hi folks, I just replaced my mail server's UW-imap with dovecot yesterday. I use the following folder setting default_mail_env = mbox:/asiaa/home/%u/:/asiaa/home/%u/mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u:INDEX=/asiaa/home/%u/mail/dovecot_indexes This is a Scientific linux 4.2 with dovecot 0.99.11-2 . Now today the server loading is highly reduced because of the pop3 session impact is low. But users

Dear R-project team, I have tried but could not install the R statistical package (http://cran.ms.unimelb.edu.au/ ) even after the help of my institute's IT personnel. The setup file could not be downloaded. The latest file R-2.12.2.tar.gz<http://cran.ms.unimelb.edu.au/src/base/R-2/R-2.12.2.tar.gz> does not start installation wizard. Kindly extend the technical support. Best regards.

OfficeScan deletes Rterm as malware
I'm not sure if the problem is actually with R but thought I should report this anyway. After Peter's email regarding the R 3.5.2 release today, I installed the Windows version right away (directly from CRAN and not from a mirror). Unfortunately, my institute's AV sofware TrendMicro OfficeScan 12.0.5147 Service Pack 1 stops and deletes Rterm.exe when running Rcmd.exe INSTALL with

Samba domain time sync woes (Debian Bookworm)
FWIW, I looked at the settings in our domain (all of which I did myself). I used to explicitly set up ntp time sources in our network for all windows workstations before, and I continued to provide these after conversion from nt4-style domain to samba AD-DC. The NTP records are provided by DHCP, and are configured in the GPO, both with regional differences (choosing the local NTP servers within

Transcode lossy to further reduced lossy to stream over Icecast
Situation:? * remote virtual server with very little storage (estimate: I can spare about 40G for music) * local music collection of ~80G in all sorts of formats - lossy in varying quality, some lossless too Vision: * stream my whole music collection randomized so I can listen to it anywhere Plan/Idea: * Locally transcode everything to one format that results in files that are?

dovecot and libnss-ldap
Hi, I've been using dovecot 0.99.14 for a few years, with libpam-ldap and libnss-ldap, and never experienced any problem with those. I expect to soon switch to dovecot 1.0rc15 (or whatever gets available in Debian Etch, hopefuly dovecot 1.0), but I've seen some warnings against dovecot+libnss-ldap... Is the problem with libnss-ldap a recent problem (I mean it was not a problem with older

package.contents() deprecated, what replaces it?
Back on 18-June a colleague (Earl Glynn) asked: ================== I did a ?package.contents in version 1.9.0. The help file says this is deprecated, and says to "see also" Deprecated and Defunct, but what is the "new" function that replaces packge.contents? The function still seems to work, but it's just tagged as deprecated. efg ================== I have the

update.packages(1)
I'm relaying a question from my institute's sysadmin: Would it be possible to modify update.packages() and related functions so that 'lib.loc' accepts integer values to specify a library from the .libPaths() vector? Many Linux users want to update all user packages (inside the R_LIBS_USER directory, e.g. ~/r/library) and none of the system packages (inside the /usr directory,

Solaris 8 password inactivity with openssh
All, We have recently updated our password aging to include setting inactivity days. We are running ossh 4.1p1 in a Solaris 8 environment. It appears that ossh isn't picking up on inactivity. Accounts that have been inactive still prompt to change passwords - if you telnet the same servers you get kicked out immediately. On the Solaris 9 servers running SUN's ssh the inactive accounts are

Transcode lossy to further reduced lossy to stream over Icecast
Opus or AAC will give you comparable results at reasonable bitrates (~128k). Though, I would suggest finding a way to get more storage. You could upload to Backblaze B2 or AWS S3 for pennies, if your current host won't let you upgrade. Windows XP Home Edition
I am using Samba 2.2.3a-12.3 on a Debian server. All the clients but one are XP home edition. I have a share on the server which all workstations are able to see, view, write, edit, etc. After 15 minutes of inactivity the share obtains a red X over the share icon. I am able to reactivate the share by clicking on the red x with no problems. I understand that Microsoft, in their wisdom, has a
