Mongrel Now Recommended Setup?
I see that the RubyOnRails.com site has migrated to Mongrel with Apache as a
front-end proxy.
Is that now the/a recommended setup for Rails apps? We''re still using FCGI
but I''m always interested to learn more about other folk''s successful
deployment choices.
Across all of our sites we''re pumping out about 300k pages per day so
anything that saves memory or has

[OT-ish] Rails, Mongrel and apache
This is kind of off topic. I want to put my fancy rails app (myapp) as
a subdirectory on my os x server. so my osx server works fine right now
as www.mydomain.com. How do I tell apache (1.3 i think) to proxy web
requests for a subdirectory /myapp to localhost:3000 where I have
mongrel running (Jed, you rock)?
I googled, but I don''t know the right words to use, so I''m not

Apache 2.x: Use fcgid or Mongrel?
Hi, There''s lots of stuff going on currently with choices of production
deployment environments. But I''m not clear on a few things as I need to
decide on a production setup where Apache is a given.
A recent thread (http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/56590) seemed to favor
Apache 2 with mod_fcgid. And this is supported in articles such as:

Mongrel + mod_proxy URL issues
We have a Centos server with a number of virtual hosts, and my rails app
runs under one of those virtual hosts using mongrel_rails. The app lives
in /home/mydomain/railsapp where /home/mydomain/railsapp/public is the
rails root.
It runs under mongrel on port 8008, so to get to it users invoke the url
http://www.mydomain.com:8008/ - all is fine to this point.
Now I have some users whose

anyone experience problems with mongrel and sessions?
I''ve moved an application that was running under apache2/fcgi to
apache2/mongrel(mod_proxy).
under the original setup i had no problems with sessions.
now under mongrel, the users are experiencing application errors.
after looking at the logs, I am seeing that a piece of code that
relies on a session variable is what is causing the error. It seems
that the session variable no longer

Is mongrel stable enough to be used in a production environment?
Is mongrel stable enough to be used in a production environment? Is it
stable?
If so, which version is recommended?
Thanks,
Chris

strange bugs while using mongrel, while running in development (and also sometimes in production mode)
Following errors are taken from monrgrel running in development mode. It
complained routes.rb, no such file or directory and then sometimes i get
application.rb, no such file or directory.Doesn''t seem correct to me.
Though not so often, but even production servers throw these errors
sometimes, and i have no special routes setup or something. Its pretty much
default one, except few changes

Mongrel and SSL?
I have a small intranet app with only 20 or so users.
I''m currently using lighttpd w/ssl for production and mongrel for dev.
I don''t think Mongrel supports ssl, but what is the easiest front-end
to put in front of it? Pound?
Thanks

Apache Proxy Error + Mongrel dying
Hi,
I''ve got to active project both running on the last Apache 2.2 and on
Mongrel 0.3.13.3.
One is running perfectly, the other gets (always on the same pages,
but not after each request, it seems to be random) a ProxyError every
now and then which leads to the mongrel process being called to die
and subsequently slowing down the whole web site.
I have to restart the mongrel

Mongrel in Production ?
Hi Everyone,
I was setting up Lighty+Fcgi on our server for last *couple* ( read
zillion ) of hours. I had posted my problems in my previous email. But
all in vain..
So, for time being, I switched to Mongrel. And the performance seemed
quite good. This is the first time ever I''m using mongrel ( Awesome
stuff ZedShaw..Thanks! ). I''m wondering if there are many people

Howtos: Deploying Rails on Windows servers
After a lot of work (and much promising) I have written instructions
on various methods to deploy Rails applications in a Windows
environment. For those of you who are not stuck with Windows, this
won''t matter too much to you, but I think this is really useful for
those in Windows shops.

Scaling Rails with Apache 2.2, mod_proxy_balancer and Mongrel
Cheers,
I''ve just published a blog post about scaling Rails with Apache 2.2,
mod_proxy_balancer and Mongrel. This way you do not need another proxy
server or load balancer for Mongrel. Just use Apache 2.2 and mod_proxy
balancer.

[WARNING] don''t use ruby-sendfile
Hi Folks,
I''ve been getting reports of people with serious stability problems in
Mongrel. These problems go away instantly when they remove
ruby-sendfile.
If your mongrel starts up saying that you have "sendfile installed" and
that it is using it then **you are wrong**. Remove the gem and don''t
use it.
I''ll be investigating why it doesn''t really

Mongrel 0.3.1 -- New Site/Runs Right
Hello All,
Yet another release of Mongrel proudly pushed out for everyone to review and
comment on. This time though, I''ve done up a little website that''s *way*
better than the plan Rdoc that used to stand in for the site like a
one-legged leper.

As you should already know, Mongrel is a fast HTTP server and library for

I can''t get mod_fcgid to work
Hi,
I just installed mod_fcgid on my apache2 server.
When I try to load my application I get an
"Application error - Rails application failed ..." message.
In my Apache2 error-log it says:
Premature end of script headers dispatch.fcgi
mod_fcgid process /data/www/app/dispacth.fcgi exit (communication
error),
terminated by calling exit(), return code 1
Any help with this would be

Lighty+Mongrel: More than one connection per client?
I have an action which requests another URL from the same site (for
testing purposes), but it keeps timing out. If I use an off-site URL,
the action works fine. I also notice that I''m only able to request one
page at a time from my server - the rest just spin until the previous
requests complete. Is this some setting in Lighty, Mongrel, or my
browser (Firefox - I played around with

Mongrel/Apache and static content
I''m looking for an easy way to have mongrel only serve dynamic railscontent, while letting Apache serve non-Rails content. Unfortunately,it seems that you have to segregate the static content in its ownfolder. That was also the case with the SCGI runner. I used thetrick outlined athttp://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.ruby.rails/23347 to managethis. I was curious if a similar

Rails on Mongrel
Hi,
After following advice from you good folks, I gave mongrel a try in a
cluster design based on the example on the Mongrel website - and it
worked right out of the box which is great - and it''s very fast :)
I have got a bit stuck though. I have two MS Word files in
/public/files/. I can pull back these files no problem but it isn''t
sending a mimetype.
I think I have two
