Could not connect to host box.domain.tld
I have used fetchmail/procmail/postfix/dovecot/kmail for some time on my mail server, and have set this up on three or four machines in the past. I'm now setting up a new server and having problems. I've reached the thinking-in-circles stage, so need a prompt. The box in question is called borg2.lydgate.lan, and resides at 192.168.0.40. I can ping both borg2.lydgate.lan and

Authentication problem?
LAN - mixed architecture - 2 x win98, 1 x winME, 1 x win2k, 3 x Mandrake Linux 10.0. Most samba activity is between the Mdk boxes, file-moving, etc. Versions - Mandrake 10.0, with all updates applied, Samba 3.0.6-4.1 I had a properly working lan, with occasional problems between box1 and box2 (Mdk boxes). Now I have no connection between them, for file-sharing purposes, at all. Box3,

Invisible messages
I have pulled in a couple of messages using fetchmail and put them through a procmail filter, which has resulted in the two messages being visible in a file manager in ~/Maildir/Design/new. However, using my Imap account on this box I can't see those messages. Any hints, please? Anne

Browsing between linux boxes
My problem appears to be too simple to be addressed in the documentation, being a linux-to-linux problem. This is a mixed home lan, but the majority of file sharing is done between three linux boxes. All three have a public directory, but the one on box1 is mainly used for file sharing. All of this worked well with our old Samba 2 setup, but has now gone to pieces. Two of the boxes are

Installing Postfix/Dovecot
I have just installed CentOS 5.1 on my home server and I am trying to set a mail server. I have diligently followed the instructions on the Wiki - How To on the CentOS website (http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/postfix). However I cannot send internal email (I haven't yet tried externally). Do you have any suggestions on what to check? To test it I used two normail user: giulio and federica.

Apparent corruption of dovecot.uidlist
I have been using Dovecot for about three years, and am currently using version 1.0.7 under CentOS. One of my users can no longer access his Inbox, although he can read mail in other folders. After a fair bit of log-viewing and looking for clues it suddenly began to make a sort of sense. The error message in the logs is Error: IMAP(david): unlink(/home/david/Maildir/cur/cur:2,ST) failed:

gnome gui question
I have compiled R 1.7.1 with gnome and installed the gtkDevice on a Linux RH 8 system. This is my first use of this device and I have two questions about it. 1. After running R --rui="gnome", the console comes up. To open a graphics window, I open the gtkDevice library [library(gtkDevice)], then start a gtk device [gtk()]. After the library command, I receive the message from R

table lookup n R
Hello R helpers! I looked but did not find a table-lookup R-utility. I could use a loop to do the job (old FORTRAN/C habits die hard) but if I have a big table in which I have to search for the values corresponding to a vector, I end up logically with a double loop. Is there already such a utility? Otherwise, is there a way without loops? Thanks as always Anne

The case of the missing mail
I became suspicious that I should have received a certain message, and reading pm.log I discovered that it had indeed arrived and had been allocated to /var/mail/anne, despite procmailrc telling it that MAILDIR=/home/anne/Maildir/ Any idea what might have caused this? It seems to have been working like this only in the last 24 hours or so. Anne -- KDE Community Working Group New to KDE
