Optimal File Permissions for Shared Access Between Windows and Linux
Hi Rowland, Thank you for your feedback. I apologize for not including the global section in my previous message. Here it is: [global] ?? min protocol = SMB3 ?? workgroup = WORKGROUP As you can see, there isn?t much in the global section. To answer your question about the permissions on |/mnt/shared|, here are the settings: drwxrwxr-x 30 john_johnk sharedaccess 4096 Oct 15 23:42 shared

Extended attributes not working on mac
I worked with Netatalk for years and want to switch to Samba now. Currently i use Ubuntu 20.04. and Debian 9 before, i had no issues with netatalk at all. As soon as i try to add a color tag (e.g. yellow) with Mac OS 10.15.5, the tag appears shortly but hides one second later. The file system is ZFS with no special options configured. I tried the Ubuntu package but also the builds from source

Extended attributes not working on mac
I?m not sure if this is related, but there was a regression a while back in handling resource forks in folder icons. It was supposed to be fixed in 4.10.13 but I don?t think it quite works yet and I haven?t had the time to test it further yet. -Perttu > On 30 May 2020, at 21.00, Martin Steiner / 3MF GmbH via samba <samba at lists.samba.org> wrote: > > I changed the configuration

Extended attributes not working on mac
I changed the configuration and raised the log level, in my opion samba tries to access the non existent double files. Samba is now probably writing the data in a netatalk compliant way in the extended attributes of the file but is not reading it. new configuration: [Global] min protocol = SMB2 vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr fruit:metadata = stream fruit:resource = stream fruit:encoding

issues with Time Machine - did macOS change how they handle things?
TL;DR: Time Machine cannot create a *new* backup on my shared drive, but can add to an *existing* backup. I'm running macOS Catalina and my Time Machine backs up to a Debian 10 server with NetAtalk and Avahi. Since Mavericks macOS has preferred SMB, and given SMB is marginally faster I decided to switch to using SMB for the Time Machine shares. On a fresh AFP share I can start a new Time

Samba Issue for Mac
We are using the nss-db instead of SSSD on the Samba server. The backend database is nss. idmap config adlocal : backend = nss Our issue is related to user directory discrepancy on the Mac OS systems. On the windows systems, we don?t see any issue. -Himi ________________________________ From: samba <samba-bounces at lists.samba.org> on behalf of Rowland Penny via samba <samba at

Samba, Kerberos, Autofs: Shares get disconnected
Dear Rowland of course, if the network is unreachable, this is also a problem for autofs. However, when a CIFS share is in the fstab and the network is unreachable, you cannot boot, as it waits forever to mount all your fstab entries, whereas with autofs, you can still boot, as there is nothing really mounted yet. I show you below my configurations of the server and client machines. On the

Duplicate entry in macOS "Network" when using Samba 4.9.1 and avahi 0.7
Hi. I configured a simple samba server. As I need this server to be available in macOS ?Network? list, I configured avahi. When I start smb.service and avahi-daemon.service I get two results in the ?Network? section. When I don?t use avahi I get no entry. Why are there two entries and which best practice can I use to have only one entry? Thanks! Steven ##################################### cat

vfs fruit disk_free fails on tmsize overflow with macOS Time Machine
Hi I apt installed Samba Version 4.9.5-Debian (latest in their repos) on a fresh-built Raspbian Buster Lite release 2020-02-05. I put together the configuration outlined below by using the docs at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configure_Samba_to_Work_Better_with_Mac_OS_X and https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/current/man-html/vfs_fruit.8.html. OS X client symlinks
When you say “real symlinks on OSX” do you mean an “alias” that Finder would create? Or a Unix-type symlink using the “ ln -s file link” command in Terminal? A Finder alias is not the same as a Unix-type symlink. My NAS runs Debian Linux with version 4.3.11 of smbd; my clients are all OSX Mojave. If I create an alias using Finder on the NAS, it behaves like a normal alias in OSX UNLESS I move

registry vulnerabilities in R
Kirtland Air Force Base has denied approval for the use of R on its Windows network. Some of their objections seem a bit strange, but some appear to be legitimate. In particular, they have detected registry "vulnerabilities" which are detailed in the attachment. I know nothing about Windows registry vulnerabilities. If any of these issues are legitimate concerns,

File copy with macOS Finder leaves random files grayed out using vfs_fruit
Hi all, We use the vfs_fruit module and lately we have experienced that random files copied with Finder are being grayed out. We think this is probably due to the extended attribute "user.DosStream.AFP_AfpInfo:$DATA" not being updated/removed after the file is copied. If we manually remove the xattr in question with the command setfattr -d 'user.DosStream.AFP_AfpInfo:$DATA', the

Read-only permissions - incorrect user mapping?
I have a problem regarding permissions of a SMB share. I created a share for my user ?steven? which has correct unix permissions (I have read/write access to this folder when I log in to the server via ?steven?) drwxr-xr-x steven root share When I export this share with no ?force user? entry in smb.conf I can access the share only read only. When I use ?force user = steven? it?s the same.

GPO Computer settings not applied
Hello, I'm having one strange issue with latest stable Samba 4.0.4. I'm testing it as a domain controller for two virtual machines. The Samba AD DC is Debian stable, with two domain members - Windows XP Pro and trial Windows 8 Enterprise. User configuration using GPOs is working as expected. However, Computer configuration is never applied properly. Event logs show this entry: ------

Hi guys, I tried to install CoDeSys on my Wine (1.0.0-1ubuntu4~hardy1) on Ubuntu 8.04. The Microsoft .DotNet Framework 2.0 is installed by using winetricks. But the installer of CoDeSys stops at 90% with an error: "There was an error at adding a program to the firewall exception list: "C:\Programme\3S CoDeSys\CoDeSys\Common\CoDeSys.exe" Google told me, programs can write their
