Courier migration to dovecot
Hi,
I'm almost ready to migrate Courier to Dovecot 2.2.31 but I have one
question about home and mail directory.
It's good idea to have same directory form home and mail ?
Which scenerio will be better and why ?
For example:
A)
Home: /home/doamin/user1
Mail: /home/doamin/user1
B)
Home: /home/doamin/user1/home
Mail: /home/doamin/user1
C)
Home: /home/doamin/user1/

LDAP schema for mailLocation?
Hi,
I would like to try implementing user specific default_mail_env's as described
here:
http://wiki.dovecot.org/moin.cgi/MailLocation
using the LDAP attribute 'mailLocation'.
However, I have been unable to find any LDAP schema which contains
mailLocation. What schema is this attribute part of?
Thanks,

Segfault in imap_bodystructure_write when searching
Whenever I try to search on my dovecot test install, dovecot dies. It
immediately spawns a new process, which the client tries to connect to, and
send search commands to, causing that to die, and so forth. This loop means I
have to kill either the server or the client.
Running Dovecot 1.0.13 from/on Debian testing, rebuilt with vpopmail support
and no other source changes. Vpopmail version is

considering dovecot
Hi all.
I'm making a case to use Dovecot over Courier and would like some
feedback. I've searched the web extensively and have been unable to
find any hard information regarding Dovecot's IMAP performance. I've
got some pressure to use Courier but my gut tells me that Dovecot
should be much faster. In particular, I will have typical users with
mailboxes exceeding 10,000

Maildir quotas support in Dovecot and 2 other newbie questions
I am not familiar with all the features that Dovecot has, but I am
familiar with Courier IMAP using Maildir.
Does Dovedot have a software based Maildir supporting quota program like
Courier IMAP ?
Can maildrop be used with Dovecot for quotas ?
Courier IMAP has maildrop integrated.
- If maildrop support is turned on in Courier IMAP, then
a user will get a quota warning mail message

mbox vs maildir
I'm using Dovecot 1.0.1-12 on Linux/Fedora 7
along with sendmail and procmail all running on the same box
mail is stored in mbox format
It's a small system with a half dozen or so e-mail "accounts". Each with
40-60MB of messages in various folders.
I keep seeing messages about how mbox is antiquated and anybody with
more than 100 messages etc should not use mbox, but use

deliver feature request (filter)
I'm using maildrop for delivery, because I want to filter through
spamassassin before delivery. Maildrop makes that trivial.
It seems deliver can pipe (one way) to a command, but what is needed is to
pipe:
deliver -> spamd -> deliver
which is what the maildrop xfilter does.

Conditionally use a sieve script with deliver?
I found a post in this list [0], which says sieve scripts can be used to
deliver mail as read. However, can it be done somehow conditionally, I mean,
with a direct or indirect switch for deliver?
For a nonexistent example, it would be simply
< | deliver -m path/to/maildir -r > or maybe an environment variable could be
exported to deliver sieve and checked there?
(Still not sure if sieve

EVERYONE USING DOVECOT PLEASE SIGN: Thanks, Administrators of Dovecot!
With the release of dovecot 2.0, the community of the Dovecot mailling
list, and us at Shelton Computers, would sincerely like to thank the
developers of Dovecot. For, if it were not for you, we would be stuck
with Courier and would not have the impressive features of Sieve, as
opposed to the unmanageable scripts, by end users, of maildrop.
*Our gratitude goes to, but not limited to:*

Dovecot auth user lookup patch for maildrop
Hi,
recently I started using maildrop as a MDA doing lightweight filtering in a
Postfix/Dovecot mail server combo. Only thing missing was the fact that
maildrop couldn't perform user lookups against a user database that was
already being served by Dovecot (for smtp auth in Postfix and for imap
access obviously) in order to easily determinate proper mailbox location and
home directory of

maildirsize quota does not referred after migration from courier
Dear All,
We would like to migrate our existing courier to dovecot. After reading
document on website and doing some tests, here are some issues we met.
1. According the the wiki, it seems to imply that once migrating from
courier to dovecot, pop3 users may "lost/forget" their download "index/
history" which cause them to download again old mails that are kept on

auto expunge trash
Hello,
Can this be done?
configurable number of days?
Like to move from courier, but this is the only thing we really need to
convince us to change, it is no good telling users to periodically
delete trash, they never listen :)

Quota and Trash
Hi,
I finally got a grip on our mail guys to try out Dovecot after they
started migrating a ~15k user mailsystem to Maildir+NFS (Netapp)+Courier
and the performance was not as good as expected. So far the results are
impressive, although there are of course a few small issues to be
solved.
One is the current Quota handling, which they use with Courier IMAP and
(still) think it needs to be

Helo all,
I'm working on a migration from qmail+courier+maildrop to postfix

deliver problem ( Error: file_dotlock_create )
Hello all ( Postfix and Dovecot )
Trying to use deliver as mailbox_command with Postfix I get this
error each time an email is arriving
deliver(xxxxxxxx): Error: file_dotlock_create(/var/mail/xxxxxxxx)
failed: Permission denied (euid=3003(xxxxxxxx) egid=3010(smig) missing
+w perm: /var/mail) (set mail_privileged_group=mail)
Doea this means I have to chmod 777 the /var/mail directory ?

. (dot) in maildir folder names
Hi.
Uhm... yeah as the topic implies I want to have . (dots) in my folder
names...
Unfortunately dovecot's maildirmake hasn't a -f switch as the one from
courier/maildrop, but that one in turn is buggy[0] and doesn't encode
any characters at all.
In principle, maildir++ should allow[1] having (encoded) dots in folder
names,... but I don't quite understand how the encoding

I'm trying to implement quota support in postfix using maildrop +
dovecot but I think dovecot doesn't update info stored in maildirsize file.

deliver + xfilter
I'm currently using maildrop to do delivery, because I like to use it's
xfilter to pipe through spamc.
I don't see a similar option for dovecot's deliver. Is there something? It
would be nice to use deliver, since I use dovecot for reading mail.

1 week after full migration to 1.1v
Ehlo all,
I've been working on a migration of about 240K users from one server
with qmail, courier imap, maildrop and ldap to postfix, dovecot, lda
+sieve. Before the migration the server and the storage were always on
high load.
Before migration:
Storage IOPs = 4600
Read average = ?2800
?Write average = 1800
Storage CPU (Raid5)
Crl0 = 50%
Crl1 = 50%
Server Load = 120
