pine/dovecot issues
Folks, I'm running into some issues with pine and dovecot. (dovecot is running mbox for now... plan to switch to maildir soon.) At first I thought it was a funky issue with the way I was using pine to access mailboxes. (I use rsh to invoke imap as pre-authenticated so when I switch to maildirs, I don't have to worry about pine being patched to support it.) But after switching over to

RC7: its issues or mine?
Background: I'm new to dovecot (although with many years Washington IMAP behind me). We're considering migrating from Washington IMAP to dovecot on the main service here, and have just started trying dovecot, using RC7. Washington, IMAP has the usual(-ish) "/var/spool/mail" shared area for the INBOX (trad. UNIX "From " format); a user's folders default to being

FOLDER INTERNAL DATA (uw pine header)
Hello! I run Dovecot on CentOS 4 (dovecot-1.1.4-0_81.el4), and I *also* run the "Alpine" mail system that comes with that OS. Alpine still writes out the 'FOLDER INTERNAL DATA' pseudo-message at the beginning of each user's mbox, but dovecot does not. I make use of that record as a simle/quick way to verify when a user actually last read their e-mail (for administrative

Pine 4.02 and directory perms
Hey linux-security-ers: I just compiled/installed Pine 4.02 for my RH 5.0 machine today (didn't see an RPM last time I checked ftp.redhat.com:/pub/contrib), and after I got it installed, it kept giving me errors about not being able to create a lockfile when dinking with my mailspool in /var/spool/mail. After doing some digging on DejaNews and the Pine website, I find a document who says the

pine, INBOX, and dovecot
Hi all, I've been experimenting with Dovecot; tests with Maildir seemed to work fine. However, now I'm trying with mbox folders, and I'm having a problem where I do not get an INBOX listed using pine. Outlook Express and IMP show it fine. I snooped part of the session, which appears to go like this (it is slightly garbled, sorry -- I couldn't get rawlog to work by creating

/etc/ssh/shosts.equiv ignored?
I'm trying to replace ssh 1.2.27 with openssh 1.2.1-pre* It seems that a openssh client accessing any openssh/ssh server I've setup always results in a password prompt. It also seems that a openssh server requires ssh clients to provide a password regardless of the entries in the /etc/ssh/shosts.equiv file. If I shut off the openssh server and run a ssh server then normal ssh client

PC-Pine "Junk in end of group"
I am running PC-Pine under Windows XP, connecting via SSL to a Dovecot IMAP server (0.99.10-2 under Debian woody). When I open a mail folder (mbox format) in Pine I get the following non-fatal error: [Junk in end of group: pn=undisclosed-recipients al= dn=] A similar error was reported to comp.mail.pine as happening with a Lotus Domino server. Mark Crispin explained it as a server-side bug:

(Al)pine on CentOS 6
Greetings, The alpine mail rpm indicates that it comes packaged with configuration files (/etc/pine*conf*). However, they aren't there. Possible? Also, how did you get rid of the annoying alpine bug: a message that keeps flashing - [Folder vulnerable - directory /var/spool/mail must have 1777 protection]? Thanks. Max Pyziur pyz at brama.com

local rimapd not working with 1.1.1, fatal error
Hi all, I just upgraded a couple of Fedora 9 workstations to try out 1.1.1 over NFS'd homedir's and I'm having trouble running dovecot in the same configuration we were with 1.0.14. It's fairly simple, we use pine/alpine and set a couple of variables to fork rimapd directly: * smtp-server=host (for the main mail machine) * user-domain=host (same) * set the

very slow imap opens in pine after moving maildirs to new drive
Hi, I've been running dovecot-0.99.10 for the past several years, with virtually no problems. Lately, I noticed that the filesystem holding my users' imap maildirs was getting close to full. So... last night, I used tar to copy /var/spool/imap to a new drive (9G scsi, reiserfs) that I then mounted under /var/spool/imap (after moving the old dir aside). After the move, what would take

pine 4.64 with CentOS with LDAP
Hello pine 4.64 on CentOS 5 I have successfully compiled 4.64 with SSL and it works fine. However, I like to add LDAP feature. I am having trouble with compiling it with LDAP. I built the latest stable openldap-2.3.38 I did include this when I built openldap: ./configure --with-cyrus-sasl Compile process gives me these errors below. Any clue as what I may be doing wrong? Thanks, Farid

Pine and prefix - LIST command bug?
I've been having problems with Pine 4.62 talking to Dovecot 1.0 stable. It's fine when the folder collection path is empty, but if I have "~/mail/" or "mail/" it gives access errors (I'm using the "~/mail/", "mail/" etc. hidden namespaces for backwards compatability). It seems to me that Dovecot is not replying correctly to a "LIST"

"Discarding bogus continuation" message in pine
Running 1.0alpha5 (though I've been having this problem for the past couple of versions), and using mbox for the mailboxes. After I've read my mail using Apple's Mail.app (or Thunderbird) and take it offline, when I try to open the INBOX (or any mailbox) with pine, I get the following message (in pine): [Discarding bogus continuation in msg 1: $Forwarded NonJunk] Quitting
