converting from courier-imap
Hello. I apologize if there is a simple answer to this question, but I
haven't been able to figure it out. Our people use various clients (pine
4.50 with maildir patch, eudora, messenger, outlook, squirrelmail), and
all of them work with courier-imap. But I've become very interested in
dovecot after reading about it, so I'm trying it out on another server.
The results are mixed.

Maildir subfolder conversion from courier-imap
Hello,
I am trying to convert a maildir that was managed by courier-imap up to
now to dovecot. I am using the courier-dovecot-migrate.pl script as follows:
courier-dovecot-migrate.pl --convert --recursive ~/Maildir
However, this command only seems to convert the base maildir, but not
all the subfolders. I thought that that's what the --recursive option
was for.
Is the command above

Dovecot Courier
Hello, I've been testing dovecot, and it appears to be much faster then
courier-imap. I am using the latest .99 version, trying to make the
transition from courier to dovecot as smooth as possible. We really only
use IMAP via squirrelmail, I think I've got that worked out fine,
changing a few settings in squirrelmail as the FAQ instructs and
migrating the courier subscriptions to

Concerns switching from Courier to Dovecot
[ I'm posting this again since I wasn't subscribed to the list when I
first posted. I'm sorry if this gets posted twice]
I was considering replacing Courier-IMAP with dovecot in the future, but
have some concerns. I realize that some things simply haven't been
finished yet like quotas, but some other things may prevent me from using
dovecot as a drop in replacement in the

Converting Courier mailboxes to Dovecot
Hi,
I have around 100 mailboxes (maildirs) to convert from Courier IMAP
(4.1.3) to Dovecot.
(From a recent backup) I've tested a few mailboxes on Dovecot 1.0.0, and
while the client doesn't notice any difference (at least in Thunderbird)
I'm hoping to get rid of the old Courier folders and convert any useful
information they may have into Dovecot.
I've tried Timo's

folders are not under INBOX
hi guys,
I hope it's common trouble, but I'm not able to find a solution:
- i'am using courier imap and trying to migrate to the dovecot
- on courier I have all folders as subfolder of Inbox - i.e. Inbox.Sent
but on dovecot the folder Sent is not subfolder of Inbox, but its on the
same level.
Please is there some possibility to have the subfolders the same
behaviour as in courier?

Transition from Courier-IMAP
Hello all,
Currently we are looking at the possibility of moving from Courier-IMAP
to Dovecot (the one that comes with Debian Lenny: version 1.0.15). I'm
currently testing it on a non-production server and have a few questions:
1) Currently all our clients use Thunderbird as their mail client to
read mail from our IMAP server. Thunderbird is configured with "INBOX."
as the

Migration problems from Courier-Imap
Hi,
I'm migrating from Courier-Imap to Dovecot-Imapd and I have some problems..
I don't want to change the IMAP folders, so I wish to have Dovecot's
compatibility with Courier's IMAP folders.
In the Dovecot configuration I configured this:
namespace private {
separator = .
prefix = INBOX.
inbox = yes
}
Dovecot correctly shows me the INBOX folder, but doesn't show me the

Problem with huge IMAP Archive after Courier migration
I have a mail server running Debian 6.0 with Courier IMAP to store
project related mail.
Currently the maildir of the archive (one user) contains about 37GB of data.
Our staff is acessing the archive via Outlook 2007 where they drag their
Exchange inbox or sent files to it.
The problem with courier is that is sometimes mixes up headers with
message bodies, so I wanted to migrate to dovecot.

transferring imap folders
I have some old mail on courier-imap that I'd like to bring over
some of the readme says I need to make Dovecot's inbox as
"INBOX" not "Inbox" for courier-imap compatibility..
that seems to be already default, no ?
also, my INBOX is mainly like 'sent/year/month' and some other 'work/this'
subfolders
is there a tool I need to use, or should just copy

Migrating shared folders from courier-imap to dovecot
Hi,
I'm hoping you'll be able to help. I'm working on a project to migrate our
users from a courier-imap (4.3.0) based mail server to a dovecot (2.0.8)
mail server.
I have got all the users migrated and working. However, I can't see how to
migrate the shared folders from courier-imap. I have tried to find extra
information all the migration information seems to centre around a

sorting order changed during migration from courier
Hello,
I've been working to migrate to dovecot (debian stable: 1:1.2.15-7) from
courier (debian old-stable: 4.4.0-2). I've setup everything and migrated
a test user over to the new system, and ran the
courier-dovecot-migrate.pl script.
The user is using alpine (the free version of pine) and their sort order
changed on move to dovecot. Originally it was the default in alpine,

Folders with mail and subfolders
I have a maildir hierarchy (built originally with Courier-IMAP) where
some folders contain both email and subfolders. Using Dovecot I cannot
see the mail in the top folders: I can only see the subfolders.
Is this an RFC restriction or a Dovecot restriction? If the latter, is
it planned to change?
Otherwise: just started using Dovecot, and I'm very impressed with the
speed of it. Thanks!

header-lines of subfolders have to be rescanned after each client startup
Hi all,
after each startup of my different mail clients (thunderbird, outlook,
...) the contents of subfolders if I click in has to be renewed. This
takes some time for large folders. I just migrated from courier. And
there all subfolders were available immediately. Is there something to
configure?
Another effect regarding subfolders is that the client forgets, which
subfolders were opened

Help please: Migrating Courier imap - Dovecot (Postfix virtual mailbox domains)
I'm trying to migrate from qmail to postfix.
The original server is combo of qmail and Courier imap (no pop mailboxes)
I have a working Postfix config and had imap working with Courier imap on
the new server. I thought I would experiment with Dovecot as it has some
good press.
I have moved the contents of my original maildir's to the new server and
ste permissions and group membership

Thunderbird IMAP woes
Hi,
I'm a new dovecot user. We've actually just migrated our email system
from Courier-IMAP to Dovecot (2.0 rc5) cause we were choking on IO and
resources, and dovecot's cache and indexing really seems to help, not to
mention the awesome amount of options, tweaks, and extra features, so
far, I'm lovin' it. However, we're having a few issues with Thunderbird

Outlook 2003 - Disappearing favorite folders
Hello all,
I'm having an issue with Outlook 2003, where favorite folders seem to
disappear. Specifically, they are subfolders of the Inbox. The Inbox
favorite folder stays there without a problem. Any clues as to what the
problem may be? With the previous IMAP server (courier I believe) this
wasn't a problem...so it leads me to believe that Dovecot might be the
problem. I'm

I've just registered to the list, so please be tolerant ;) I'm currently
in the process of planning the migration from courier to dovecot as

to Dovecot 1.1.13 (Debian Lenny Backport).
The conversion of the Mailbox from Courier to Dovecot will be done with
"courier-dovecot-migrate.pl"-script[1],
