nm-applet, wirless, and CentOS 6
I have a strange problem and I know I am doing things way outside of the box.
First of all I don't like Gnome or really any of the mess-windows flavored
desktop systems and no, I don't like the MacOSX flavored desktop systems (like
Ubuntu's Unity) either. The 'desktop' system (if you could have called it
that) that I learned on was DEC's 'DecWindows' system on

iphone connection problem
Hi, I recently changed from uw imap to dovecot on the sound recommendation of a friend and have mostly succeeded in getting all of my clients up and running, but am really stuck with the iPhone which is failing to make connections. I run certificates on all of my clients and thunderbird happily connects both locally and remotely. I installed the certificate on the iPhone after great pain (pk12

weights vs. offset (negative binomial regression)
[Please keep r-help in the cc: list]
I don't quite know how to interpret the difference between specifying
effort as an offset vs. as weights; I would have to spend more time
thinking about it/working through it than I have available at the moment.
I don't know that specifying effort as weights is *wrong*, but I
don't know that it's right or what it is doing: if I were

Status of SPARC64 port?
I was looking at the Sparc 64 4.7 or 4.8 port, wondering if its in any state
to put on my Solaris v100.
Just need the basics, eide, network, kbm, mouse, graphics (x).
A bonus would be support for the lom (light out management) features and the
flash card.
Reason for change is I HOPE that the math (ssl) performance is better on
FBSD, as well as I am just tired of keeping track of

Optimised qmf_synth and iir_mem16
Hi all,
I've taken preglows ARM versions of qmf_synth and iir_mem16 from
rockboxes speex codec, and tweaked them a bit further for some more
speed.
I attach them here so you can review and take on any changes you
want.
Please let me know if you have questions etc.
Thanks,
Robin

Error in R??
Can someone explain why I am getting the following error: in the r code
below?
Error in solve.default(diag(2) + ((1/currvar) * (XX1 %*% t(XX1)))) :
system is computationally singular: reciprocal condition number = 0
In addition: There were 50 or more warnings (use warnings() to see the first

The R code is part of a bigger program.

Missing tick marks bug on alpha solved
On some systems (alpha), tick marks don't appear on plots. The easiest
way to see the problem is something like:
> plot(0:1,axes=FALSE)
> axis(1,1:2)
The problem is in X11_Line(...) from .../src/unix/devX11.c, which is
so short I've included the whole function below:
static void X11_Line(double x1, double y1, double x2, double y2,
int coords, DevDesc *dd)

Vectorizing for weighted distance
Hi All,
I am trying to convert the following piece of matlab code to R:
XX1 = sum(w(:,ones(1,N1)).*X1.*X1,1); #square the elements of X1,
weight it and repeat this vector N1 times
XX2 = sum(w(:,ones(1,N2)).*X2.*X2,1); #square the elements of X2,
weigh and repeat this vector N2 times
X1X2 = (w(:,ones(1,N1)).*X1)'*X2; #get the weighted

Ctrl-Alt-F? bindings broken under xen 3.0.3-142.el5_9.1 / 2.6.18-348.1.1.el5xen?
I am not sure what I did, but for some reason Ctrl-Alt-F? bindings are
broken on 64-bit xen desktop machine (but not on my laptop (32-bit, no
xen)). Both machines are (mostly) up-to-date and running CentOS 5.9.
I rarely hop to different Virtual Consoles (eg Ctrl-Alt-F1 ...
Ctrl-Alt-F7), but today I wanted to go to the main console to watch
some kernel verbage (I was checking something with

predict.lm, matrix in formula and newdata
Dear all,
I am stumped at what should be a painfully easy task: predicting from an lm object. A toy example would be this:
XX <- matrix(runif(8),ncol=2)
yy <- runif(4)
model <- lm(yy~XX)
XX.pred <- data.frame(matrix(runif(6),ncol=2))
colnames(XX.pred) <- c("XX1","XX2")
predict(model,newdata=XX.pred)
I would have expected the last line to give me the

dovecot 0.99.14 and imaps (SSL) "hangs"
Hello,
I just decided to try dovecot again after a long pause, and I must say
that I am very impressed with the speed and resource usage, even when
running with UNIX mailboxes.
However, I have a problem with SSL. Every two minutes the connection is
frozen, and the client has to reconnect after it times out waiting for
a response from the server.
My IMAP client fetches all headers, and then

Outlook 2010 woes
So after several days of more troubleshooting, I have some things to
report to the list.
First and foremost, I have discovered that the issue has nothing to do
with SSL/TLS, which was my earlier suspicion because after doing some
PCAPs I discovered that the transactions were negotiating TLS 1.2 on the
new server, as opposed to 1.0 on the old.
Also thank you for the rawlog suggestion: that
