Centos long end of life support, but im interested in packages themselves.
Hi Guys Im hoping someone would be so kind to answer my question. Where I work we are currently reviewing and making use of Centos, because of its long end of life support. CentOS-6 updates until November 30, 2020 The question I would like to ask is. Say Centos 6 offers and makes use of PHP 5.3. Say as time goes on PHP themselves deprecate 5.3 and EOL is reached. Would Centos 6 continue to

Using dovecot Replication in a medium to large enterprise.
Good day Guys Just wanted to pick the communities brain and experience(s) for a second. At $CORP where I work. My team has inherited a single server mail solution. We need to look to building a standby / replicated solution. One of the things we were looking at is https://wiki.dovecot.org/Replication We have in excess of +/- 500 mail boxes and using just under 1TB of disk space. That is a

Hi all I have just finished installing / configuring my dovecot IMAP server. Im seeing something weird happing. It seems my Winblows Outlook users are experiencing a problem whereby when they delete an email, Outlook puts a line though the email, but the mail does not delete. Im not sure if this is a an outlook problem or a dovecot IMAP problem. I cant see anything in the conf file to

Exim as default MTA?
Yes, I've been reading /. :) But this isn't the first time this has occured to me. With all the security vulnerbilties, would it be unreasonable to either change the default MTA from sendmail to Exim/Qmail/Postfix, or give people the option of installing something instead of Sendmail at install time? -- Avleen Vig "Say no to cheese-eating surrender-monkeys"

Lightweight LMTP daemon to avoid overkill MTA
Hi, My situation is as follows. -An internet-facing spam filter relays email to destination mail server (Dovecot) with SMTP. - Dovecot should take email and deliver it to user's mailboxes. I guess I'd need LMTP for this. - An external SMTP relay is already in place. I am thinking of using Dovecot submission to relay to the external relaying cluster. So, both relaying and routing are done

Hi all I just compiled Dovecot v1.0-test70 and i tried using the dovecot-example.conf for a quick test to see if the daemon would work. But I keep getting the following error message in me /var/log/messages: May 17 12:33:46 mail dovecot: Dovecot v1.0-test70 starting up May 17 12:33:47 mail dovecot: Auth process died too early - shutting down May 17 12:33:47 mail dovecot: auth(default): No

Lightweight LMTP daemon to avoid overkill MTA
I ended up 'hacking' LMTP support into the external spam filter. Someone else already contributed 'real' patches to implement LMTP support, so once I go live with this mail platform it should be stable. Lightweight LMTP daemon to avoid overkill MTA
Hi, I was unclear in my question. The spam filter is only able to deliver mail over SMTP, not over LMTP.. So I would still need some kind of daemon that listens for SMTP and then offers incoming email to Dovecot's LMTP socket. Why deliver+usercheck? deliver+MTA?
Hi, I successfully configured dovecot using virtual users (and LDAP/AD). deliver is the LDA and verifies if the user exists (as recommended in the WIKI). However, the howtos in the Wiki say *nothing* about the case that the recipients should be verified *before* receiving the messages (prevent backscatter, ...). All configurations in the dovecot-Wiki (postfix and exim) just accept the mails

mail without mta
Dear list! I'd like to know if some- one has experience with system running no mta (aka sendmail). I have single comp, not server, not lan. Yes! Sendmail is nice, but it is too big for simple tasks I have for it. My intention is to use apps small as possible. This letter gone from mutt directly to ssmtp, that processed it to my isp. Unoffical Survey - What MTA/Spam filtering do you use?
I like this unofficial survey of hardware but wondering what MTA and spam filtering everyone is using. I do front end spam filtering for other servers as well. (junkemailfilter.com) I'm using Exim 4.61 SpamAssassin 3.11 Some version of DSpam that I'm experimenting with Most of my spam filtering happens on the Exim level. Replay mail to test MTA + filtering
Hi All, My kit : Centos4.4 + Postfix + SA + ClamAV (not that its relevant) General question - Does anyone know of a product which can take a folder / mbox of mail (spam, ham, virus infected stuff, scam mail and hoaxes) and "replay" it back against a test server to determine the servers ability to filter? I have looked at some low level (IP) packet replayers, but i cant really find

Sizing MTA servers
Hi All, This is probably a bit off-topic but does anyone have any idea about sizing MTA servers.?? We have about 200,000 emails/hr? incoming and outgoing.? I am intending using Exim and Spamassassin on each MTA.? How many servers using recent hardware would I need to cope with this mail throughput?? What is more important on the servers, CPU or RAM?? Should I have mail going both directions on

postfix as default MTA
I noticed when CentOS 6 came out that RHEL had moved to postfix vice sendmail as the default MTA. I had never heard the rationale given, it always sat on the back burner, but I was reminded of the question the other day when I was dealing with a related topic. I don't want to get into a pissing contest about how one MTA is obviously better than the other, nor why others think that I should
