Custom flags in v1.0.15
Hello all,
I'm having problems with setting custom flags on a dovecot imap setup,
with mbox mail store. I was running v1.0rc15 on a Debian Etch box,
upgraded recently to v1.0.15, but nothing changed.
The problem :
I read my mail using IMAP. In Thunderbird (various versions, current one
being v2.0.0.19), I can set various message flags (Important, Personal,

mbox From escaping implementation ?
Hello,
I read in the wiki (http://wiki.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat/mbox) about
"From Escaping":
"Dovecot doesn't currently do this escaping however. Instead it
prevents this confusion by adding Content-Length headers so it knows
later where the next message begins. Dovecot doesn't either remove the
'>' characters before sending the data to clients. Both of these

Maildir structure question
Hello,
About the INBOX location when using maildir, in the wiki,
http://wiki.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat/Maildir, I can read:
"
Directory Structure
~/Maildir/new, ~/Maildir/cur and ~/Maildir/tmp directories contain
the messages for INBOX. The tmp directory is used during delivery, new
messages arrive in new and read shall be moved to cur by the clients.
"
But in my Maildir, I see

mbox File too large error
Hello,
I have a rather large (~400MB) INBOX file in mbox format. When using
deliver, it complains in the logs:
Dec 2 16:47:13 petole deliver(niko): write() failed with mbox file /home/niko/mail/INBOX: File too large
I do not see anything related in the configuration. And ulimit shows
nothing special:
$ ulimit -a

IMAP labeling sometimes not taken into account
Dear Dovecot list,
I recently switched from uw-imapd to dovecot to manage my huge mbox
files (about 1 GB). I now observe a very strange behavior, difficult to
reproduce reliably, which might be related to some misunderstanding on
my part on how either dovecot works or imap labeling works.
What I call "labeling" is the fact of marking some e-mail, in my e-mail
client (currently

mysteriously disappearing RECENT flag
Hello,
I've decided to switch from UW-IMAP to Dovecot and so installed 1.0.rc15-2
on a Debian/Etch system and started using it with the existing MBOX folders.
My configuration is pretty much the default one, in particular I didn't
touch to any of mbox_xxx options.
The (hoped for) performance improvements were indeed quite noticeable and
mostly it works just fine but I seem to have one

v1.1 status and benchmarks
v1.1 plans have changed a bit. I'll release v1.1.alpha1 soon and hope to
have a stable v1.1 in a month or two. The rest of the features that
didn't make it into v1.1 will go to v1.2. I'll write more about this
when v1.1 alpha is released.
I also did a bit of benchmarking. v1.1's performance improvements are
looking pretty great, it seems to be twice as fast as v1.0.
v1.0:

barrier and commit options?
Hello,
On my home server (Debian etch, custom 2.6.28.2 kernel), I am using ext3
for both root and /home filesystems, with barriers enabled to prevent
corruption caused by my PATA disk write cache.
Looking for a better performance, I have also set the commit=nr option
as described in linux-2.6.28.2/Documentation/filesystems/ext3.txt, so
that I now have:

Courier->dovecot migration script
HI All,
We have the latest Dovecot 1.1.6 running and I need to migrate some
POP3 users over from Courier to Dovecot and would need to convert the
courierpop3dsizelist to maintain the UIDs.
I just need to confirm that the script
(http://www.dovecot.org/tools/courier-dovecot-migrate.pl) only works
for Dovecot v1.0 and not for v1.1?
As the dovecout-uidlist file that is created (by the script) is not

dovecot imap and thunderbird tags
We've been using an imap(s) dovecot server for a while on an ubuntu
8.04.2 and we noted that tags set by thunderbird ("important", "to do",
etc.) are almost always lost, i.e., when connecting to the same imap
account from another machine, the tags are not there anymore... this
always happens for the Inbox, and seldomly for other imap folders...

v1.1 plans
I think I won't do any actual releases until it's mostly feature
complete. Then maybe v1.1.alpha1 or v1.1.beta1. So if you want to test
it before then, use CVS or the nightly snapshots.
I'm planning on keeping v1.1 almost completely compatible with v1.0.
There could be some minor configuration file changes, but for most
people v1.0's dovecot.conf should work with v1.1.
I want to

http://dovecot.org/releases/dovecot-1.0.0.tar.gz.sig
It took almost 5 years, but it's finally ready. I'm not expecting to
release v1.0.1 anytime soon, unless someone's been sitting on a major
bug just waiting for v1.0 to be released. :)
People wanting new features should start testing the upcoming v1.1.
