File locking problems and duplicate emails with the snarf plugin
Two weeks ago we switched all our IMAP users (around 25,000) from the Washington IMAP server to Dovecot, and since then there have been several occasions when reading new email just hangs, and duplicate emails appear. We are using the 'snarf' plugin to copy new email to the inbox, and it looks as though the problems are caused by file locking. We have been using the Washington IMAP server

1.2 , mail_location & mbox_snarf
Hello, I'm currently running 1.1.20 and I'm planning to upgrade to 1.2.10 I've read carefully the wiki page "Upgrading Dovecot v1.1 to v1.2" and a few messages concerning mail_location parameter but I still don't know what to change in my configuration in order to keep it working after the upgrade. I'm using mbox format and mbox_snarf plugin. dovecot -n :

Dovecot / FreeBSD / Nfs mailstore / Index=memory
Hello, I have recently changed imap from Courier-imap to dovecot because of serial problems with courier-imap, I have being forced to do it very quickly... and without extensives tests. I have 3 mails servers (freebsd based) behind a load balancer and a nfs mailstore on a netapp. On my first tests I have setup the index into some nfs shared mount, but it seems that some imap clients are

1.1.1, mbox_snarf and duplicate messages
Hello, I recently switched to dovecot 1.1.1 with mbox_snarf from uw-imap with mbox driver enabled. The mail is delivered by procmail in /var/spool/mail/user Most of my users have a file INBOX located in $HOME/mail The mail is transfered from /var/spool/mail/user to $HOME/mail/INBOX every time an imap connection is done. Things are OK with clients like thunderbird or evolution, but with imp

Question about mbox_snarf and dovecot2.0
Hello, I'm running revision 10622:de9d6dae7fe5 on AIX 5.3 with some local mods for our inbox hash function. I'm having a problem doing a "select inbox" when I use the mbox_snarf plugin. When I run truss on the process I see the following stat calls: 614528: kread(9, " 1 s e l e c t i n b".., 4096) = 15 614528: statx("/gpfs/inbox/14/tstem38",

assertion on deliver (1.1.beta10)
Hi, I'm testing version 1.1.beta10 and getting these assertions on deliver: file index-transaction.c: line 54 (index_transaction_finish_rollback): assertion failed: (t->mail_ref_count == 0) This was after an upgrade from a 1.0 release candidate. If you need I can try and reproduce this in a more controled environment to pinpoint the problem. Thanks, -- Nuno Lopes

BUG: mbox_snarf causes message duplication when two IMAP connections are open
Hello, I have used dovecot to replace an ageing wu-imap installation using the mbox_snarf plugin however I have noticed that when we have more than one client checking the INBOX we then have messages being duplicated in the INBOX. Below is the configuration used as requested in the bug report page. I have confirmed that the duplicates are being caused by dovecot by doing an strace of both

Supporting POP & IMAP with Sendmail
Greetings! I dug thru the archives but didn't see a clear answer to this. A client has an existing sendmail/pop3 system, and I would like to switch to dovecot for imap support. For imap I much prefer the Maildir format over mbox, however, sendmail natively dumps to mbox (mailspool) and that is what pop typically reads. I've read the threads on how to make sendmail write to Maildir. My

A colleague suggested that some R software was available for estimating "Independent Components Analysis" (ICA) (... signal separation). If so, I''d appreciate any pointers . 1.2.11 nfs_flush_file_handle_cache_dir problems
Hi chaps We're using the mbox_snarf plugin to snarf mail from /var/mail/%U to ~%U/Mail/inbox and using dotlocking on all accesses. This is on Solaris with NFS mounted home directories. We're getting a few (very few) of these for just a couple of users: Error: nfs_flush_file_handle_cache_dir: rmdir(/var/mail) failed: Device busy Which, having searched, I see some discussion of in the

SAMBA AND PRINTING
Hi. I'm sharing printers over samba, and I would like to know if there is a way for a samba server to behave like a Windows Server, that is, when I install a remote printer, it installs the respective drivers. When I connect to a samba printer, it tells me that the server has no suitable NULL printer drivers. Is there a way to configure samba to do that? Thanks --

Curt, This is really, really cool.... On hiccup for me though. All was well until I went to manage the cookbook application. The Start SCGI command gave the following output: D:\INSTAN~1\rails_apps\cookbook>..\..\ruby\bin\ruby.exe script\scgi_rails start -p 9999 -e production -D ERROR: Could not setup a SIGHUP handler. mbox snarf plugin + idle
I'm having a problem with mbox snarf not looking at /var/spool/mail/ when in idle mode thus never giving me a RECENT line even though there are new messages in /var/spool/mail/ . Here are the imap commands to reproduce the problem: 1 login userid password 2 select inbox 3 idle When I run "select inbox" it does see my messages in /var/spool/mail/ and moves them over fine.

Dovecot write activity (mostly 1.1.x)
I?m experiencing write activity that?s somewhat different from my previous qmail/courier-imap/Maildir setup. This more outspoken in v.1.1.x than v1.0.x (I?m using Maildir). Write activity is about half that of read activity when measuring throughput. But when measuring operations it?s about 5-7 times as high (measured with zpool iostat on ZFS). I think this might be due to the many small updates

UW-IMAP style mbox snarfing from /var/mail/ to ~/mbox
http://dovecot.org/patches/mbox-snarf-plugin.c Also committed to CVS HEAD. Usage: mail_location = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u protocol imap { mail_plugins = mbox_snarf } protocol pop3 { mail_plugins = mbox_snarf } plugin { mbox_snarf = ~/mbox } If ~/mbox doesn't exist, nothing special is done. If ~/mbox exists, it's treated as INBOX and mails are moved from /var/mail/%u

Pine 4.02 and directory perms
Hey linux-security-ers: I just compiled/installed Pine 4.02 for my RH 5.0 machine today (didn't see an RPM last time I checked ftp.redhat.com:/pub/contrib), and after I got it installed, it kept giving me errors about not being able to create a lockfile when dinking with my mailspool in /var/spool/mail. After doing some digging on DejaNews and the Pine website, I find a document who says the
