Xen and networking.
I have a beefy machine
(Intel dual-quad core, 16GB memory 2 x GigE)
I have loaded RHEL5.1-xen on the hardware and have created two logical systems:
4 cpus, 7.5 GB memory 1 x Gige
Following RHEL guidelines, I have it set up so that eth0->xenbr0 and
eth1->xenbr1
Each of the two RHEL5.1 guests uses one of the interfaces and this is
verified at the
switch by seeing the unique MAC addresses.

Good news for virtual EL-4.x boxes
Currently, if you are running CentOS-4.x on a Vmware box you end up
with time skew problems. The main fix has been using a set of
recompiled kernel that has a HZ that is more fitting with what Vmware
expects (eg 100 hz). The 4.7 kernels look like they will not need
this:

RHEL 5.2 i386 image - Xen kernel doesn''t recognize the total amount of system memory
Hello,
We have installed RHEL 5.2 Server ( i386 image ) on a machine with 64GB of
RAM.
When booting the default PAE kernel ( 2.6.18-92.el5PAE ) that is shipped
with RHEL 5.2 installation the OS detects 64GB of RAM.
But when booting the Xen kernel ( 2.6.18-92.el5xen ) the OS detects only
14GB of the total amount of available RAM.
Did anyone encounter this problem before ?
Is it a normal

How to efficiently compare each row in a matrix with each row in another matrix?
Dear expeRts,
I have two matrices A and B. They have the same number of columns but possibly different number of rows. I would like to compare each row of A with each row of B and check whether all entries in a row of A are less than or equal to all entries in a row of B. Here is a minimal working example:
A <- rbind(matrix(1:4, ncol=2, byrow=TRUE), c(6, 2)) # (3, 2) matrix
B <-

PHP FPM issue
Hi Marius,
Will make the changes and see how it goes.
On the other hand
https://cbs.centos.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=27138
if the above was released we could just install and migrate to
rh-php73-php, which is not affected as per
https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/cve-2019-11043
thanks

Hi,
why does format(10000, big.mark = "\\,") not give me "10\,000"? How can I get this kind of "big.mark"?

Quiz: Who finds the nicest form of X_1^\prime?
Dear expeRts,
I would like to create a plotmath-label of the form X_1^\prime. Here is how to *not* do it [not nicely aligned symbols]:
plot(0,0,main=expression(italic(X*minute[1])))
plot(0,0,main=expression(italic(X[1]*minute)))
plot(0,0,main=expression(italic(X)[1]*minute))
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Marius

Debian Testing: ~/.Renviron seems to not being read (R_LIBS not set)
Dear Dirk, Dear Johannes,
Thanks for helping, I could solve the problem.
By reading your posts, I got a bit of the impression that questions
beyond the 'standard installation' process are not really welcome on
R-SIG-Debian. If this is the case, I'm sorry for my post. I wasn't
aware of this, but Dirk makes it clear why on

Seed in 'parallel' vignette
Hi,
This is most likely only a minor technicality, but I saw the
following: On page 6 of the 'parallel' vignette
(http://stat.ethz.ch/R-manual/R-devel/library/parallel/doc/parallel.pdf),
the random-number generator "L'Ecuyer-CMRG" is said to have seed
"(x_n, x_{n-1}, x_{n-2}, y_n, y_{n-1}, y_{n-2})". However, in L'Ecuyer
et al. (2002), the seed is given with

lattice splom: how to adjust space between tick marks and tick labels?
Dear expeRts,
how can I decrease the space between the tick marks and the corresponding labels in an splom?
See here:
library(lattice)
U <- matrix(runif(4000), ncol = 8)
splom(U, axis.text.cex = 0.2) # => space between the [small] tick labels and tick marks is/seems to be too large
I checked ?panel.pairs but could not find an option for that.

dummy example, i get the next answer:

R process killed when allocating too large matrix (Mac OS X)
Hi Simon,
thanks for your quick reply.
1) ... so you can reproduce this?
2) Do you know a way how this can be 'foreseen'? We allocate larger
matrices in the copula package depending on the user's input
dimension. It would be good to tell her/him "Your dimension is quite
large. Be aware of killers in your neighborhood"... before the killer
attacks.
Thanks & cheers,
