how to deliver when username and email differ
I have an Active Directory virtual setup and am using LDA to deliver to
local recipients. Today I found a big problem with my configuration and
not sure if this is fixable. Some of the users have multiple email
addresses and the %n variable for user doesn't match their actual
username. So if I have realname "Joe Bob" with a username of "joe" and
an email of "jbob at

(userdb/ldap) Set home dovecot variable - How?
Dovecot version dovecot-1.0.rc14-7 (opensuse)
Postfix is using Dovecot LDA.
I'm getting this error message, and I guess it's going to be a problem on my next task, which is to set up sieve scripts.
Is there something wrong/contraditory on my config or I forgot something? I want:
/var/dovecot-tests/: where user's inbox resides
/var/dovecot-tests/home/: home dir (users will not be

Sorry, my previous message entered like a reply, so I'm sending again to
keep the list in order.
Hi,
I'm using dovecot 1.0.5-1 (debian stable) and I'm trying to build a
virtual host machine with ldap.
In my dovecot-ldap.conf thats what I have:
uris = ldap://<ldapserver>/
dn = cn=Manager, dc=domain, dc=com, dc=br
dnpass = <ultra secret passwd>
sasl_bind = no

Supporting local and virtual LDAP users, with seperate mail_env
Is it possible to have local users with mail in
maildir:%h/.maildir
and virutal users with mail in
maildir:/home/exim/%u/.maildir
I seem to have authentication working for both local users and LDAP users.
But I'm getting this error trying to access a virtual users mail.

mailMessageStore: sca/
my mailer completes this relative pathinformation to /var/mail/sca/
therefor I setup

Configuring samba users with existing ldap (pdbedit -Lv <uid>)
I'm currently going through chapter 5 of Samba-3 by Example, "Making
Users Happy"
Step 16 is where I get a hiccup. When I execute the command "pdbedit
-Lv" which according to the man page should list out all my users, I get
nothing back. All the previous steps have worked using one of my
existing LDAP account uids.
There seem to be extra things I need to have in my

Dovecot, LDAP and something akin to Postfix' "table search order" from virtual deliver.
hi, i've found this topic while looking for a solution for the way to
use 'mail groups' with dovecot an postfix, using dovecot as LDA.
i'm not sure if this patch is implemented into the source or not.
or maybe there is a 'special' way to have multilpe mailboxes served by
postfix/dovecot?

convert plugin failing
I'm struggling to get the convert plugin working using the Debian etch
packages. When starting dovecot it was trying to create files in
/.temp.hostname... convert-plugin.c looks like it has a couple of
typos in it - it checks "mail" three times for NULL rather than mail,
user, home.
I changed this but it's getting called when these three items are set

trouble with deliver in 1.0.4
Ok, here's one for the idiot file. I just installed dovecot-1.0.4 on my
personal system for testing, a system which has to be the simplest
dovecot configuration possible. deliver is barking about something with
which version 1.0.3 has no problem. I looked over the wiki, googled,
and see nothing wrong.
The error:

Using Dovecot SASL with postfix
I'm trying to use Dovecot SASL with postfix 2.3.3 and when trying to
send mail I get the debug output below. I don't know enough about whats
going on to know where the problem is but something clearly is not
right. I would send the configurations for postfix and dovecot except
they are clearly talking to each other so I kinda doubt its a
configuration issue. The machine can afford to be

NTLM authentication mechanism with Postfix
I'm working on getting authentication for Postfix smtpd clients
working with Dovecot. I've got both plain text and GSSAPI mechanisms
working. Winbind also works for shell access and the command line
test work fine.
If I can get NTLM authentication working I can use Postfix as a drop
in replacement for a MS MTA I want get rid of.
I'm hoping the community might be able to offer some

"unknown user" with: Dovecot Pop3 - SASL pam Postfix - Authtentification
Hallo
I build my Installation after HowTo with Archlinux packages:
http://wiki.dovecot.org/HowTo/SimpleVirtualInstall
I can send e-mail, but pop3 failed: "unknown user"
For good popularity needed one or more 100% complete howto step-by-step
reusable for full folk. (not many-many with small pieces solutions by
problems...)
thanks

I made a pretty complete howto for samba on debian servers.
This howto covers samba + ldap + cups + recycle bin + samba-vscan
+ phpldapadmin + ACL + Extended Attributes.
this howto is also based on the idealx howto
If you do this setup, you should be able to use the NT4 Usermanager,
setup Point en Print Printing. set rights from explorer etc.
other nice tools is ldapadmin (

Dovecot as a (quota) policy server for Postfix
Hi guys,
I'm currently experimenting with Postfix, Dovecot and OpenLDAP
to setup a mail server hosting virtual users.
The standard stuff works fine so far.
The only thing that doesn't work as I'd like it to do is Quota.
Currently, Dovecot handles/enforces quota through the deliver LDA.
When Postfix tries to deliver a mail to a mailbox that is over
quota, the deliver LDA bounces the

low samba performance with glusterfs backend
Hello folks,
We test samba performance with local ext4 and glusterfs backends, it shows performance is very different.

A LUN is created over all disks, make as EXT4 file system, and used as glusterfs brick.
On the samba server, use dd test local ext4 and glusterfs, write bandwidth are 477MB/s and

1.0.rc10 status report
(Background: Relatively new to dovecot; looking to do transparent
replacement of long-established UW-IMAP on cluster of Linux boxes which
NFS-mount a shared "/var/spool/mail".)
With rc8, where I had already increased "login_max_processes_count" from
default 128 to 1024, we had still hit the issue of too many logins
crashing dovecot, so that trial had only lasted a couple of
