Sizing login_process_size and login_processes_count?
Any suggestions on sizing login_process_size and login_processes_count for a server expected to be doing 100 to 200 simultaneous connections? Is there a way to separate login_processes_count between imap and pop? I would like to have at least 50 imap processes ready, but we rarely have any more than 5 to 10 pop connections. Would be a shame to have 40+ pop login processes doing nothing most

I have set "login_process_per_connection = yes" and "login_processes_count = 1", and this is how my pstree looks when nobody is connected: dovecot -,- dovecot-auth `- imap-login However, when I connect with a client it looks like this: dovecot -,- dovecot-auth |- imap `- 2*[imap-login] I

NFS Maildirs
Hi, We have our user homedirs on nfs so I enabled nfs parameters in dovecot.conf. Everything works fine but when I want to delete a homedir of a user I can't delete it because I can't remove the .nfs files in the Maildir. I don't want to stop dovecot, remove the homedir and start dovecot. Is there another way to accomplish this. Thanks, Martijn # 1.2.12:

hoping someone has a suggestion
Hi using dovecot 1.0.10 with pop/imap, using maildir, with 2000+ users mostly using pop but many using imap. Once in a great while I have problems with dovecot pop timing out. If I telnet to port 110 it just takes forever to come up or it doesn't at all, the samething happens on the imap port although 110 is always worst. At 1st when troubleshooting I was not sure what was causing the

minor issue - dovecot -n output with 1.1.beta11
Hello, when running diff for 'dovecot -n' outputs from beta10 and beta11(for the same config file), I noticed that 'dovecot -n' beta11 output does not show anymore the following parameters, which are set to non-default values(and which 'dovecot -a' shows): login_processes_count login_max_processes_count first_valid_uid first_valid_gid cache_size cache_ttl

mbox snarf plugin + idle
I'm having a problem with mbox snarf not looking at /var/spool/mail/ when in idle mode thus never giving me a RECENT line even though there are new messages in /var/spool/mail/ . Here are the imap commands to reproduce the problem: 1 login userid password 2 select inbox 3 idle When I run "select inbox" it does see my messages in /var/spool/mail/ and moves them over fine.

login_max_processes_count and logs
Hello, Our server reach today the login_max_processes_count. Dovecot works well and don't accept any new connection. But it doesn't log anything about this problem : we are blind why the connection is refused for the clients. Could you add a log when the connection limit is reached or (maybe better) a log with the occupation for the beginning of each connection ? Thanks Dom Dovecot

What is normal CPU usage of dovecot imap?
I got Dual Core Intel Xeon CPU 3.00GHz, over 1000 mailbox and almost 1 dovecot login / second (peak time). Server stats says that load is continually over 2 and cpu usage is 60%. top says that imap is making this load. virtual users are in mysql database and mysqld is running on another server (this server is ok). Do I need better CPU or is there something going on that I do not understand? #

newbie: problem with IMAPS + mutt + Thunderbird
Hi, I'm a Dovecot newbie and have some problems with the configuration/the resulting interoperability. My setup looks like this: I receive my mail using qmail-ldap and sort it with a number of means into ~/Mailbox/ (= INBOX) and ~/Mail/folder/ for various values of 'folder' (generally one folder per mailing list). The sorting is done via .qmail-* files, LDAP entries, and

No log for hitting login_max_processes_count?
I think today just due to increased use, my mail servers hit login_max_processes_count. It wasn't obvious what was happening, logins just weren't acting like they should and sometimes would get disconnected before given a prompt from the server. Something made me think to check if I had too many of certain dovecot processes and I found I had 128 imap-login processes on both servers,

login processes from attacks staying for hours
I'm in the process of rolling out new setups with dovecot on CentOS 5.2 and I notice that dovecot doesn't handle the brute-force attacks too nice. I reduced the limit a bit to some reasonable looking value: login_max_processes_count = 32 to stop them earlier and the number of processes stops at that figure when an attack happens. However, it stays at this count for hours although the
