dcpromo on W2k8 R2 server with existing Samba AD domin fails to complete
I’m attempting to stand up a Windows 2008 R2 server as a domain controller to integrate with an existing Samba AD environment with 6x Samba AD servers (4.10.1) and multiple sites. This is the first Windows DC.
I have a couple other Win2012 servers that are already domain joined, and ~ 300 Win 10 desktop/laptop hosts
I’ve followed the guide on the wiki:

Problems adding DC to Samba 4.1.6 AD
I inherited an AD "domain" which is running Ubuntu 14.04, with Samba 4.1.6
with "built-in" AD-DNS. The network has only one AD server, which runs on
KVM as a guest - (convenient so I can make backups and test stuff without
breaking my network.
We have around 500 users on the system, and I'm trying to upgrade to 16.04
and a more current version of Samba without making all

Joining a Windows Server 2008 R2 to existing Samba4 domain
Hi all,
A bit of back story.
A few years back we upgraded our Samba3 domain to Samba4 using the
classicupgrade method. After a few stumbles we got there and now have 9
DC's globally all running 4.5.0.
We dropped the ball when naming our domain and now need to change it. This
has led me down the path of attempting to join a Windows Server 2008 R2
machine as a DC and then run the RENDOM tool

Win7/W2K8 R2 sp1
After upgrading Win7 and W2K8 R2 clients to service pack 1 it is no longer possible to log in to domain(before the upgrade the clients can log in into domain). Clean installation of Win7/W2K8 R2 with integrated sp1 has the same effect. Our domain PDC is running on samba 3.3.7. I'm curious if anyone else has seen this already.
Thank you

Samba 4.6.3 DNS replication with Windows 2008 R2 DC
Hi there,
I currently have 9 x Samba 4.6.3 Domain Controllers happily replicating and
working nicely. We use BIND_DLZ DNS.
I have been tasked with adding a Windows 2008 R2 DC to this group which I
have done following this guide:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Windows_Server_2008_/_2008_R2_DC_to_a_Samba_AD
All appears to have gone well and replication is working according to

Samba AD and adding a Windows 2008R2 DC
Hi,
we now have an old Windows NT4.0 domain served by Samba 4.2.x (using
Samba and LDAP) and want to move to Windows AD.
The reason we need to do that is because of the clients (Windows 10 and
MacOS) and because of a third party device which does not want to talk
to Samba AD (Isilon OneFS).
I did a 'classicupgrade' to Samba AD from our Samba/LDAP config and
then I use this guide :

Domain login delays w2k8 R2
Hello!
We have a w2k8 R2 64-bit machine in a Samba 3.4.4 controlled domain.
When logging in as a domain user there is a ~30 sec delay waiting
for the User Profile Service. This has nothing to do with the size
of the user profile. Looking at the network traffic I can see 2
gaps, the first about 11 sek and the second about 19 sek with
no packets sent except one TCP ACK (from the client) in each

Samba4 AC DC Ready! But "W2k8 R2" doesn't join...
Hey guys!
This is my first message to this list... I'm must say that I'm very
impressed with Samba4! It is an amazing project! Nice job!!
Last time I used Samba was back in 1998~2000... But, I got a new job that
is forcing me to remove 3 Windows Servers with AD, by Samba4.
So, I just deployed Samba4 on top of Ubuntu 14.04, it have Bind9, IPv6, a
Secondary DC with replication, everything

3.6/SMB2.0 and NT6.0 (Vista/W2K8 not-R2) question
Hello Samba Team,
Have a W2K8 not-R2 (NT6.0) server that compiles code
served from a CentOS 5.6 server running Samba 3.5.5
over an Infiniband link.
Works nice but an 'imake' step that grinds through
every source file several times takes ten-to-twenty
times longer than when it runs locally on the Linux side.
It's apparent that the entire source tree is cached
in memory by Linux, but

Samba migration to AD
Thanks on wiki appears
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Windows_Server_2008_/_2008_R2_DC_to_a_Samba_AD
I understand that this can be used to migrate fist 2008r2 and the to
newer versions windows?
Any special requirement for initial join between 2008r2 and samba
(specific min version required to allow this join?)
Anybody has migrated with a successful result?
Thanks

Samba migration to AD
Not really answering your question, but as context:
For a period of time, newer windows versions refused to join to Samba,
as they used a WMI method (which we don't support, being DCOM) to work
out what version we were.
We told MS, and they fixed that, which was nice of them.
Since then, we have also worked around the issue by being able to
increase our functional level preparation (which

Expected DNS records for a new ADC?
I have added a 2008R2 server as an ADC to a domain (S4 4.5.3); and the
instructions say to verify the DNS records... what DNS records does
one expect to find? I think I know but looking in DNS it does not
appear the server created any DNS records relating to being a DC.
No GUID CNAME in _msdcs.micore.us, no SRV records in Default-First-
Site-Name._tcp,...
I have not yet rebooted the server
