Help with logging in and getting mail
Hi,
Very new to dovecot and to using POP3/IMAP (from this perspective anyway).
First things first, per the instructions from the web site:
dovecot version: 1.0.5
dovecot config:
# 1.0.5: /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf
protocols: imap pop3
ssl_disable: yes
disable_plaintext_auth: no
login_dir: /var/run/dovecot/login
login_executable(default): /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/imap-login

How to use deliver to deliver to virtual users
Hi,
Ok, here's my setup, each virtual user has a home directory as follows:
/virtusers/<v_userid>
and per the INBOX directive in the dovecot.conf file I also have a file as
follows:
/var/mail/<v_userid>
Now, I've followed the directions as outlined here:
http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Sendmail
But every time I send mail to one of my virtual users, I get this message

Mail being delivered to mbox instead of Maildir
I thought I had Dovecot configured to use Maildir instead of mbox, but
apparently it is still using mbox.
Excerpt from dovecot.conf:

Excerpt from sendmail.mc:

What's the difference between mbox and maildir
I'm a little confused about some of these terms. What is:
.imap/.imap/ (other than directories)
mbox
INBOX (I think I have this one)
maildir
???????
I'm not sure how all of these things work together.
Thanks,
Andy

Wish-list: X-Delivered-To headers generated by dovecot-deliver
Would it be sensible/"cost effective" to make dovecot-deliver generated
X-Delivered-To header(s) based on command line parameter(s)?
[after striping such existing headers, before consulting sieve]
I need it to:
a) *clearly* mark POP/IMAP account fetched by fetchmail
[with fetchmail using directly dovecot-deliver in --mda option]
b) cleanly implement "shared mailboxes" with

Bug#252597: logcheck: user logchecks mails should be delivered to root
Package: logcheck
Version: 1.2.20a
Severity: important
Since logcheck changed to run as user logcheck, the error mails of the cron
daemon end up in /var/mail/logcheck where nobody reads them. Mails for
logcheck should be aliased to root like all the other mails of system
accounts.
I was searching for a long time what was wrong with my logcheck not
delivering any mails. The lock directory was

On RHEL5, dovecot 1.0.7, I have set up sendmail to use `deliver` for

cyrus-imapd, sendmail and delivering plus address formats
CentOS-4.8
cyrus-imapd-2.2.12-10
sendmail-8.13.1-3.3
I have a mail hub which uses cyrus-imap with sendmail It has worked
well for us on this and prior hosts going back to 1995. And, I do
not have a problem with the current setup.
What I would like to do however, is to deliver plus-formatted e-mail
addresses directly to users subfolders in their mailbox tree. Such
addresses take the form

Hi there,
I changed postfix to pass email to spamassassin, and then deliver to
dovecot LDA. It fails to deliver.
The current entry in master.cf now reads:

deliver+sieve: Destination address (-a) parsing changes
When I upgraded my old, long running dovecot 1.1 to newer dovecot-1.2.4 + doevecot-sieve-
0.1.12 I observed a change in destination address (-a) parsing.
Old behaviour:
When Timo introduced this feature

it was possible to hand over only the detail part. In my sendmail configuration I used "-a +$h",

Deliver, sendmail & envelope From_
Sorry, couldn't find this in the archives.
Under freebsd 4.x, the native mail.local that sendmail uses by
default writes From_ lines that include the origin address. This
is very readily parsable and handy for quick greps in mboxes. But
deliver defaults it to MAILER-DAEMON. I see you can specify the
envelope From_ with "-f", but I'm not sure how that's useful.

Sendmail and Dovecot deliver (dovecot-lda)
Hi,
I have a Centos 5 system with sendmail running as my MTA.
Normally I note from sendmail logs that mails get delivered using the
'local' mailer.
I have therefore entered the following into my sendmail.mc file, from an
earlier post on this list:
define(`LOCAL_MAILER_PATH',`/usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver')
define(`LOCAL_MAILER_FLAGS',`DFMPhfnu9')

sendmail: clientmqueue directory storing massive messages, not being cleared
I just got done sending 42,000 e-mail messages that were rotting away in
/var/spool/clientmqueue. I figured out the command to do so was
"sendmail -L sm-msp-queue -Ac -q30m".
I never even knew that directory existed. I thought everything queued was
kept in /var/spool/mqueue (which, I might add is being taken care of on a
regular basis.. just seems the problem lies in the

Ok, I've ALMOST got this working ... I can run deliver as a user, but when
I try using it as the default delivery agent from sendmail, I get
deliver(userid): net_connect(/var/run/dovecot/auth-master) failed: Permission denied
Does deliver run as root, as the recipient's ID, sendmail's ID or
sendmail's GID? (I'm running freebsd)
Or am I totally clueless ??

I've put together an always tempfail & sendmail-like DSN report back

Because I don't know how to transform the rejection reason into sysexit.h

b) command line:

Sendmail + Deliver as an LDA probs
Hi,
I'm having trouble setting up sendmail to be able to use dovecot deliver
as an LDA... I don't want to be able to deliver mail locally, everything
should go via deliver (virtual user setup)... And i'm confused about all
the procmail/lda entry's in different sendmail config files...
When using $# deliver -u testuser < testmail <-- he delivers my mail in
