proxy configuration
Before I spend some time experimenting with what might be impossible,
maybe someone can just tell me (either "how" or that it's
impossible).
I'd like to get perdition out of my environment (mainly to have one
less moving part in my architecture). I'm looking at dovecot's
built-in proxying. In my setup, I don't have dedicated front-end
machines. A user can connect

securing dovecot proxy connections
The wiki <http://wiki.dovecot.org/PasswordDatabase/ExtraFields/Proxy>
page says this: "The connections created to the destination server
can't be TLS/SSL encrypted.".
Hrmm. Right now, with perdition, I'm forcing the use of STARTTLS on
the internal connections. I'd just as soon get rid of perdition (to
have one less moving part in my architecture), but I need the

IMAP proxy - can it detect parodying to itself?
Hi all,
I have some IMAP servers fronted with separate perdition processes, and it would be ideal if I could collapse this down to having dovecot do both the IMAP proxying and the IMAP serving at the same time on the same IP addresses.
One of the fields in my LDAP entries contains the canonical name of the server that hosts their mailbox, and if I follow the manual at

multiple ports, different characteristics
The wiki <http://wiki.dovecot.org/Iptables> leads me to believe that
the only way to configure dovecot to listen for the same protocol on
multiple ports is via external redirection (iptables or similar). Is
that so, or can dovecot be directly configured to listen on multiple
ports?
Here's a concrete example of what I'm trying to accomplish. Our
environment uses plaintext

Dovecot Proxy with MySQL auth
We are looking at deploying several pop/imap servers to house the mail for
15,000 or more mailbox accounts. We are contemplating on the design and are
looking at using MySQL auth (we already have a MySQL environment in place
for our user auth to live) and proxy_maybe so each server can proxy for all
the others and we just have a network load balancer distribute the incoming
connections to all of

passing quota to deliver via command line
Is there any way to pass things like "quota=" for the quota plugin to
the deliver LDA via the command line or as an environment variable or
whatever? I've got all the info I need in my MTA to avoid a userdb
lookup in the LDA, but I still have to do the userdb query to get the
per-user quota number (the default quota works fine, of course).

Proxy lmtps
Hi,
when proxying lmtp from director to backend, director does not use STARTTLS.
Delivering mails with postfix via lmtps to backend or director works
encrypted.
Is there a way to force the use of STARTTLS on dovecot director lmtp proxy?
Regards,
Matthias

Dovecot LMTP Proxy + STARTTLS?
Hi
I got dovecot 2.2.26 on a Centos7 with latest updates. Dovecot is
configured to act as director and delivers to my two backend servers.
I enabled lmtp proxy on director to listen on port 24.
Now I see in msg headers that the connection to the lmtp proxy uses
STARTTLS but the connection from proxy to backend seems to be
unencrypted. Is it possible to enforce the use of STARTTLS in the

LMTP proxying
How exactly is LMTP proxying supposed to work?
According to the example on
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/PasswordDatabase/ExtraFields/Proxy
I'm only seeing "proxy" in the password_query statements.
But LMTP never sends a password.
IMAP Proxying is working OK:

Upgrading dovecot 2.2 to 2.3 without downtime when using proxy/director?
Hi,
I have a setup with several dovecot-servers (2.2.35) and I use dovecot
proxy. I upgraded one server to 2.3.1 and got the configs fixed so far
that it started again. But when I tried to add it into the proxying
again with "doveadm director add" I see the following in the logfiles:
May 6 07:19:30 host dovecot: director: Warning: Director

patch: allow proxy to lookup host by name
This patch allows the dovecot proxy processes to lookup the destination
host by name instead of IP address. Tested agains 1.2.10, expected to
work against 1.2.11.
The patch is pretty straightforward, it's making it work within the
restrictions of the login process that's more interesting.
I have made some changes to the wiki (pending approval) to

Dovecot for POP3S proxying
I would like to configure Dovecot for POP3S proxying all users from the Internet to the internal Exchange Mail Server.
Dovecot proxy have to authenticate the POP3S user (with ldap database) and redirect to exchange server.
Is it possible ?
Could you give me a dovecot.conf example file ?

Proxy problem: "imap-login: Error: proxy(USERNAME): connect(10.x.x.178, 993) failed: Cannot assign requested address (after 0 secs, local=10.x.x.104)"
After fixing the "duplicate compression" problem, we're now
encountering
"imap-login: Error: proxy(USERNAME): connect(10.x.x.178, 993) failed: Cannot assign requested address (after 0 secs, local=10.x.x.100)"
in the logs. We already tried raising the ulimit, the max number of
open files. Once we reach about 25k connections, we're getting the
error above... for all

maildirsize not correct
Thanks, but this is most probably different issue. My maildirsize is
computed incorrectly even if I delete it completely and let dovead
recompute it so expunging is not in the game.
Is there any way how to track/debug the recomputation algorithm in dovecot?

IMAP proxy configuration
i know dovecot can act as IMAP and POP3 proxy ..... but i'm having
a hard time configuring it. Actually i'm using a simple dovecot
configuration with virtual users stored on MySQL. My dovecot-sql.conf is
pretty simple:
[root at correio dovecot]# cat dovecot-sql.conf
driver = mysql
connect = host=localhost dbname=DATABASE user=USERNAME password=PASSWORD

Dovecot proxy
Hi everyone,
I have a problem that hopefully has an easy solution.
I am setting up an IMAP proxy in a DMZ network. It will connect to the real IMAP server and authenticate using "driver = imap", and this I have working really nicely.
What I want to do is have it look up a list of users that are allowed to connect through the proxy before proxying the connection, as not all users with

[Postfix] SASL Auth. using Dovecot with password forwarding proxy configuration
Hi,
I'm relatively new to Dovecot and I did a bit of search but couldn't
find a possible solution for the particular setup I'm working on.
Basically I have an SMTP/POP/IMAP proxy setup running Postfix &
Dovecot. IMAP/POP authentication is done using the password proxy
feature, where the login credentials are passed to the backend server
after a db lookup, which does the actual
