Shell script to list group members
I have several shell scripts to manage user accounts on a server. I've
been using a file with the usernames of peoples accounts that any script
needs to process. I had a thought that I can and should be setting up
groups and adding user accounts to those groups so I don't have to
maintain a set of files with the user accounts.
So essentially, I am looking for a (simple) shell

Securing SSH
So I setup ssh on a server so I could do some work from home and I think
the second I opened it every sorry monkey from around the world has been
trying every account name imaginable to get into the system.
What's a good way to deal with this?

Fedora user moving to CentOS
Greetings, I'm a Fedora user likely going to switch to CentOS in the
next few days. I'm wondering if anyone has some heads up advice for
me? I am very familiar with FC6 and before so I anticipate few problems
I haven't already seen (and know were fixed).
The main reason for the move is so I don't have to re-install so
frequently and hopefully not have to deal with so many

Centos 5 and milter rpm's
As I mentioned on this list before, I'm switching from Fedora 6 to Centos 5.
I'm setting up the mail server and on Fedora I used the milter rpms for
greylisting, spamassassin, mimedefant etc. However I don't see that
those are included with Centos? Is this true, or do my yum repositories
need to be changed to look in an 'extras' location? Or is there some

package 'synchronization' for multiple systems
I'm setting up multiple systems and ideally I want the same package
configuration on all of them. So I'm going through yum and rpm queries
manually to try and get this done. There must be a better way. Is
there a way to use yum or rpm to configure multiple systems with the
same packages?
If yum or rpm has something native built into it to do this, that would
be great. If

how to store flags \Seen into read-only mailbox?
Hi,
I'm trying to use dovecot for storing mailing lists and read-only access for users.
The OS is Solaris, authentication for all readers of these lists are from Ldap through PAM, and one local user "listuser" will receive all mail and store them into it's folders (Maildirs). These maildirs are readable (read-only) for all others and they are shared by setting

Authentication error after authentication query (for Eudora 5.2 on Mac)
Greetings all, I'm a new user of Dovecot and want to say thanks for the
great software.
I am having a problem at the moment. I run a heterogeneous network with
windows and Mac clients logging into a Fedora Linux 2 box running
sendmail and previously UW-IMAP, but now Dovecot. I am using strictly
pop3, plain authentication with mbox format. Every computer in the
network is working fine with

Shared Folters with LDA/Sieve
Hello,
i'm searching for a way to use Shared mailboxes with Sieve Filtering.
I need global email addresses like:
info at foo.tld
contact at foo.tld
help at foo.tld
Every address with own Sieve-rules for filtering and sorting of incoming
mails.
Now every user needs access to this folders, but how? How should i create
the "global" addresses?

simultaneous access to folder
We have for many years been a UW-IMAP site, with users having their own
traditional, private, mbox-format INBOX and folders: almost (but not
quite) no complications of shared or simultaneous access. We have just
completed a transparent transition to dovecot (official 1.0.0 release).
But we have one residual issue affecting one important user account.
UW-IMAP specifically only allows single

Yup, I'd looked at those, but still left not understanding all of the options. And you gave a doveadm command, which I appreciate very much, but surprises me since the materials in the ACL wiki page are

Understand I right, that in this case, I __NEED__ all users to have an

Shared inbox?
I'm running dovecot 2.2.16 on my FreeBSD mail server. I've read information on the wiki about setting up shared mailboxes, but I want to do something that isn't really coved by the instructions I was reading there. My son (now 7 years old) has an account on the system, but doesn't use it directly. But, for things he's interested in like Minecraft, and/or the local zoo, we

Problem: delivery with mode 600 into shared folder
Hi,
I have a problem, delivery called from /etc/aliases file by pipe delivers with mode 0600.
I need system users with shared mail folders (Maildir format).
When I changed alias to pipe to shell wrapper with mode 002 set in it, nothing changed.
MTA is sendmail, OS Solaris, and dovecot version 1.1.1. Can somebody help?
Here are dovecot settings:

List shared folders
Good morning!
I run an imap-only Ubuntu 8.04 mail server with dovecot 1.2 and
pam_ldap, so all my users are posix users. No virtual user or domain, no
sql so far. I am setting up shared folders with "namespace shared". I
got no errors upon restarting the service, but I get no shared folders
listing.
As per the wiki http://wiki.dovecot.org/SharedMailboxes/Shared I can use

shared boxes
Hi there,
is it possible in any way to have private seen flags for users in a shared mailbox?
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/SharedMailboxes/Shared says no, but i'm not sure, if newer mailbox formats
can do this... like mdbox oder something like that.
thanks for your help
