The first v1.1 release that actually deserves the "release candidate" name. It contains everything I require from v1.1.0 release. There are two bugs left that I'd like to get fixed, but they won't block v1.1.0 release: *

SSD drives are really fast running Dovecot
I just replaced my drives for Dovecot using Maildir format with a pair of Solid State Drives (SSD) in a raid 0 configuration. It's really really fast. Kind of expensive but it's like getting 20x the speed for 20x the price. I think the big gain is in the 0 seek time. Here's what I bought. Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC256MAG-1G1 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State

Converting from Maildir - sdbox
OK - I thought this was going to be easy. Maybe it is. I'm just not that good at reading directions. Trying to use dsync. Getting this error: Mail locations must use the same virtual mailbox hierarchy separator (specify separator for the default namespace) Currently using maildir. The setup is as follows: mail_uid = mail mail_gid = mail mail_location =

Dovecot Version Numbers - Let's drop the Alpha?
I'd like to make a suggestion. Let's drop the Alpha and come out with an official version 1.0. Here's my reasons. The 0.9x version are obsolete and people should be using the 1.0 Alpha versions which seem to me to do everything the previous versions did and more. It's as full featured and stable as all other IMAP servers and in my opinion is ready to be called 1.0. The

Upgrade 1.1 to 1.2 double check
Read what I could find on possible upgrade issues and saw only one that might be a problem. I don't think it will but figured it was worth checking. Anything jump out at the more experienced users? dovecot -n (edited to protect the guilty. ie. me) attached. # 1.1.11: /etc/dovecot.conf # OS: Linux 2.6.22.19-vs2.3.0.34.1 i686 CentOS release 5.2 (Final) log_path:

Mixing MBOX and Maildir?
Is it possible to have some folders be mbox and some be maildir format? Why you might ask? Sometime for diagnostics I have the Exim MTA archive certain messages in MBOX format and then I want to copy them into an imao folder to look at them with Thunderbird. When I used MBOX all I had to do was copy the file into a folder and it worked. So what I'd like to do is have a folder with a

Setting mail location in SQL?
Trying to figure out the syntax to set a mail_location for SQL. This doesn't work: userdb { driver = sql args = /etc/dovecot/master-combined-sql.conf override_fields = mail_location=maildir:/fakedir/%d/%n:INBOX=/fakedir:LAYOUT=fs } Does anyone know the proper syntax? Thanks in advance

[OT] How do I convert maildir to bsmtp format?
Here's what I'm trying to do. I have a spam filtering operation as a front end for other servers. I've created a virtual server for spam storage where the user will be able to log in using squirrelmail/dovecot to review and release their spam. The email is stored in maildir format. Piecing it together I can use squirrelmail to pipe the email into something so that if a use finds a

Finally upgrading from v1.0.15 to v1.2.16 -- advice please
It's long over due, but now I finally plan on upgrading from v1.0.15 to v1.2.16 on our servers. Would appreciate any comments! We have 7 servers, all running of the same GPFS filesystem. Both maildirs and indexes are stored here. We use dovecot for POP/IMAP and deliver. Currently we're using mysql as authentication source, but want to move to using ldap instead. Can we upgrade one server

SSL error after upgrading to 2.31
After upgrading to 2.31 I'm getting this error. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. linux 2.4 vs 2.6 kernel
hi I read ( I think in dovecot wiki) that ext2 or ext3 fs on a 2.4 kernel can get slow due to the number of files in a directory. Does anyone know if kernel 2.6 has similar limitation? I'm not at that point now, but before the box goes live, I'm wondering if I should resolve that. Glenn

Stable Version
I'm very new to Dovecot - still testing it - and planing to convert in the futire. I see a lot of rapid development here which I like. But I'm wondering if there is any kind of schedule for blessing 1.0 as official - or - what the custom is for a stable release. Just trying to think about when to jump in. I'm fairly brave, but the feature I need we just added today. -- Marc

Upgrade from 1.0 to 1.1, plus migration from Maildir to dbox
Ok - I gave up on trying to get CIFS to work - there's obviously stuff going on I don't understand. So - instead of trying to get a virtual server to work, I next tried a chroot. That worked...but imapsync error'ed out trying to handle one of my large mailboxes. I was trying to setup a "new" server, migrate all my mail over, verify everything worked - maybe even leave the

Phantom email message
Got sort of a strange problem on one email account. Everything works fine with Thunderbird/IMAP showing the correct unread message count. But on my DroidX smartphone one of my email accounts always shows one unread message, but I can't bring any unread messages up. It's like there's something there making it think there's a message when there isn't. The email client is K-9

Advanced dovecot tricks - spam review/release
Hi, I'm looking for some advice to do a really advanced trick with Dovecot. I'm not sure if this can be done. I need to describe first. I have a spam filtering company that does front end spam filtering. (Junk Email Filter) I want to add a system where I store a copy of spam on a server and make it available to the customer to review and maybe resent on false positives. I know I

Courier migration and vpopmail with dovecot-lda
I've been using Dovecot in some fresh installs lately and have found it fairly easy to configure. However I'm starting on a migration that involves moving from some very old software (ancient vpopmail, qmail and Courier). On the Courier front, I've reviewed the migration page in the wiki, and it looks like the main concerns are just matching the namespace and then using the migration
