Dovecot imap with Postfix and using Thunderbird as client
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew of the mysterious fix to this problem that
Curtis describes in his followup:
"I vaguely remember something like this, but I don't recall the fix"
I recently installed dovecot on a server running RHEL4-AS-U2 and have updated
to RHEL latest dovecot package, dovecot-0.99.11-2.EL4.1.
Seeing as this is close to the version Curtis is running

Two strange behaviours with dovecot+postfix+squirrelmail
Hi all,
About a week ago I was forced to migrate my main (production) email server from RH9 to
Centos4.1. The installation has dovecot-0.99.11 + postfix-2.1.5 and >600 mbox accessed email
accounts.
Number 1. Some users accessing thru squirremail (installed in my webserver) can read their
INBOX at /var/spool/mail directory but when trying to delete a message they receive the
following error

A tail of joy...
So, I _finally_ got the time to upgrade from 0.99.14 ... which I told myself
I'd upgrade from once 1.0 was released... (yep, I've been _that_ busy :)
So I read the Wiki page on 0.99->1.0 transition, and went through the config
file - for all of about 5 or 10 minutes.
I logged in at 11pm when nobody else should be using it, restarted dovecot
with the new version, and logged in.

Thunderbird 0.8 - Inbox grayed out and does not update
Hi all,
I cannot get Thunderbird 0.8 to work with my dovecot IMAP server. It
works fine with my work IMAP account - I'm not sure what they are using.
What happens is that folders that I create in Thunderbird or Evolution
can only contain subfolders or messages, not a combination of both.
Folders which contain subfolders and not messages show up in Thunderbird
grayed out. I can expand them

documentation for developers
Hi there,
I have two questions:
- Is there a dovecot documentation for developers (apart from the source
itself)?
- In the site I am concerned with, it happens very often that one

dovecot with Calendar or Contacts?
When I attempted to import my Contacts list into dovecot, my mail
client told me that the IMAP server did not support "Special" folders.
Is there a way to to do the contacts, or sync up Contacts & Calendar from a
database or something else?
I'm using both Thunderbird and Outlook.
Thanks.

Historical question
Hello Jean-Marc and all,
I recently had a talk with somebody about CELP. He said, there is this
federal standard 1016 (4.8kbps) with a reference implementation of the
Department of Defense (only on Sun, unfortunately, if I got this right).
This one is noticed in the manual already.
He also said, since there is this implementation of the DoD, nobody
would voluntarily re-implement CELP.
If I read

Maildir, imap and newness of messages
I'm using the standard Dovecot 0.99.14 on Fedora Core 4, with a
Maildir++ mailbox. I've noticed what I think is an oddity in the way
dovecot handles messages:
According to the Maildir specification, a message in Maildir/new is a
truly new message, which has not yet been touched by any reader. From
an IMAP viewpoint, such a message should have the flag RECENT.
However, if a message exists

0.99 mail env
Greetings, all
Last night I migrated our mail between two machines... both running dovecot
0.99.xx.
In the process, I wanted to make some small changes, namely that new mail be
delivered to mboxs in /var/mail/%u and IMAP mail stored in Maildirs at ~/.imap ...
I tried using:
default_mail_env = maildir:~/.imap/:INBOX=mbox:/var/mail/%u
But had no luck. Is it only 1.0 that can work with two

Dovecot imap with Postfix and using Thunderbird as client
Hi,
I just recently installed dovecot, and I am having the following problem:
If I send an email to my account on this new machine, I can log in via
SSH and use the unix mail command, and instantly my email is visible.
If I turn on Thunderbird, it will show my new message. If Thunderbird
was already on and had already checked the mailbox, even if I click on

Change Default IMAP folder
Hi all,
I use dovecot 0.99.14-1
Can I change the default Dovecot IMAP Trash folder from .Draft to .Drafts?
Dovecot make a .Draft folder and my e-mail clients (Thunderbird -
Outlook Express) makes .Drafts folder.
Thanks

Upgrading
Hi Folks
OK - I'm ready to upgrade my version .99.11 to the latest release candidate
but I haven't a clue how to do that on a live mail server without potential
disruption. Can anyone help with advice on the best way to do this?
CentOS latest release

Seen this behavior before?
Hi,
it's not yet a bug report, just a question:
After I was successfully using dovecot-imap and Thunderbird for quite
a while without any problem (debian unstable), I now sometimes
experience that the IMAP-connection hangs and thunderbird waits
forever when accessing a folder. I did not yet analyze the problem and
I am not sure whether it is a thunderbird or a dovecot problem.
Did anyone

Trouble with Dovecot
Hello!
I'm trying the Dovecot as IMAP server, so I have one problem: I can log
in to server, but nothing appears in mailclient and following message
appears in log:
imap(user): Feb 08 20:36:34 Fatal: We couldn't drop root group
privileges
dovecot: Feb 08 20:36:34 Error: child 21356 (imap) returned error 89
What could be wrong?
Thanks for your answer.

Mac mail copy/delete problems w/1.0b2
Hi,
Mac mail (a horribly mis-behaved client, it seems), has a horribly hard time deleting/copying large blocks of messages from one folder to another. The basic symptom is:
1. Select a bunch of messages
2. Click on delete
3. Wait for a _very_ long time.
It also seems very slow on copying, so it may be the "trash folder copy on delete" that is really slowing it down.

Compressed maildir
Greetings,
I noticed a while back someone posted a patch/plugin that allowed Dovecot to
use compressed mbox files. I'm now wondering how far that would put us from
having compressed maildir? I have a server with more CPU than disk space, and
while I can buy more HDD space, my backup solution doesn't make that practical.
It seems to me that when looking for a message file, if it
