While searching: Assertion failed (offset >= ctx->input->v_offset)
Hi,
while a user is searching through his (1.2 GB, >150000) mails, I get a lot of
these messages in the log, and the search (with Thunderbird) doesn't finish:

Global FTS index?
Hi,
I tried the FTS (and FTS Squat) plugin today, and it works as advertised.
But: On my 13000 folders with 160000 mails maildir I use for testing, the
speed increase is not as big as one would wish (it still takes several
minutes to complete a search).
Is my assumption correct, that there is no way to do a search over a big IMAP
folder hierarchy in a reasonable amount of time, because each

Looking for suggestions: How to strip attachments from mails
Hi,
I know this is not 100% on-topic, but I'll try anyway...
I'm looking for a way to strip attachments from incoming mails on the server.
The attachments should be stored on a file server (where users have access
via SAMBA) and only a link to the file (UNC path) should remain in the mail
body. This is to prevent the mail storage from filling up with a large amount
of big mails where

How to set MDNSent flag on a large amount of mails?
Hi,
after having moved a big mail archive to IMAP, I've now got the following
problem: The MUA asks to send an MDN on all those old messages that contain
the 'Disposition-Notification-To' header when opened. I'd like to set the
$MDNSent flag on those (>10000 in a deeply nested directory structure)
mails.
After having read http://wiki.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat/Maildir I wrote a

IMAP IDLE, Virtual mailboxes
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi,
K-9 Mail (on Android) has been mentioned on this list multiple times
recently, I think it's definitely an IMAP client "on the rise". :) It
supports IMAP IDLE, and so brings "push mail" to Android mobile phone
users. To bring this into the context of this mailing list: I guess a
lot of people on this list are making use of

Mails "invisible" (index corrupted?)
Hi,
I got a complaint from a user today, that a few mails "disappeared" from her
Inbox, both when accessing via IMAP with Thunderbird and in the IMAP Webmail
client (RoundCube Webmail, caching deactivated).
Searching (in Subject or From header) within the Inbox turned up the missing
messages though.
After checking all relevant client settings (filter rules etc.), restarting

Search for (any of) multiple terms slow
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
this may be an obvious logical problem I'm not aware of, which cannot be solved
any more efficiently... but maybe it's just a bug or there is potential for
optimisation in Dovecot (or Thunderbird?).
When searching for multiple terms at once ("any of") with Thunderbird/Dovecot
(using FTS Squat indexes), it takes much longer (not

Using tags instead of folders?
Hi,
currently most people store their messages in some sort of folder hierarchy,
so that they can find them later easily. Here, for example, mails that are
connected to a project are being stored in /CompanyName/ProjectNumber
folders.
Now I was wondering if there is any reason against using tags instead of a
folder hierarchy, because tags are better when it comes to mails that belong

Virtual mailboxes not always up to date?
Hi,
I have been experimenting with the Virtual mailboxes plugin [1] recently.
This is my setup: the following dovecot-virtual file exists in a virtual
mailbox called "todo":
------ dovecot-virtual ------
*
-Trash
-Trash/*
-Spam
-Spam/*
OR KEYWORD $TODO KEYWORD todo
-----------------------------
so if any mail in any mailbox except Trash+Spam has the keyword "$TODO"

deliver exits with status 89 on some but not all mails of a batch
Hi,
I'm trying to get dovecot's LDA 'deliver' to deliver mails that come in through a postfix daemon on the same box. I'm talking
about dovecot version 1.0.rc15 (on CentOS 5 as Linux-VServer guest on a CentOS 5 host).
Configuration
-------------
# /etc/dovecot.conf

ssl_key_file: /etc/pki/selfmade/server.key

sieve header :matches for multiline header
RFC3028 say:
Folding of long header lines (as described in [IMAIL] 3.4.8) is
removed prior to interpretation of the data. The folding syntax (the
CRLF that ends a line plus any leading whitespace at the beginning of
the next line that indicates folding) are interpreted as if they were
a single space.
But it seems to be not true for dovecot-sieve-1.0.2
for header

UTF-8 in dovecot-sieve ?
Hi,
Reading http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3028#section-2.7.2 I thought
that out-of-the-box dovecot can filter messages by matching header in
UTF-8.
But when I tested it, it failed :
(I'm using 1.0.5 with sieve plugin)
Here is my .dovecot.sieve file :

Pigeon Sieve, redirect action and SPF
Since I've upgraded to dovecot 2.0.13 + Pigeonhole 0.2.3 (Gentoo
package) I've received a few complains of users about rejected messages.
Investigating the problem, I've seen that when the external sender
server publishes SPF information, when some message is sent from there
to one of my users that has a Sieve redirect action active to another
external system (that does SPF

Problem in Pigeonhole sievec
Dear all,
I stumbled upon the following behaviour of Pigeonhole, which I consider
to be problematic. A user deployed a Sieve script similar to the following
snippet
if not anyof (address :is ["from","cc"] ["...", ..., "... at ...
GARBAGE", ...] {
fileinto "inbox.Trash";
stop;
}
Note the extra line break before GARBAGE. This script is

Convert plugin question
Hi,
Is it possible to change convert plugin, so it would keep old
UIDVALIDITY and UIDNEXT after conversion from mbox to Maildir?
As far as I can tell, this shouldn't be a big problem as this
information already exists in the mbox. Well, at least for mboxes, that
have
that information.
The problem is easy, if UIDVALIDITY changes during conversion, then
client has to reload whole mailbox

deliver mail with postfix to dovecot for mailinglists
This is a bit off topic on that list. But the question is
required because of a limitation of dovecot. It cannot
have shared mailboxes into which one would collect mailing list
mails. I assume one has already solved that problem and
therefore ask this question on that list.
I try to do the following:
I would like to setup an alias dovecot at kzone.ch
and subscribe this alias to the dovecot

multi-app merb
Ezra,
I love merb, especially because it''s keeping the things that Rails does
well and improves on things that Rails hasn''t done so well.
One of my biggest pain points with Rails has become multi-app
integration. A lot of web sites consist of multiple apps (e.g. a core
site, a forum, a blog/cms, etc.). Doing this sort of thing is very ugly
and inefficient with the current
