XTerminal issue
What does wine exactly trying to do when i run it remotely?
I've got some XTerminals and I'd like to run MSOffice on them (on the app
server, actually) but when i try to w(h)ine it starts up, makes noise on
the net for some 5mins (doing the fonts). After that it dumps an error
message saying that he's run out of resources (the X server I think).

I'd like to share some of my experience with this UPS. I've compiled nut
from the Debian sid sources.
Version is 2.2.1. I'm using the powerpanel driver.
It seems shutdown.return does in fact what shutdown.return should do.
I'll just copy&paste some of my notes made yesterday:
Commands were issued as follows: "upscmd -u admin -p admin

smbstatus crazy multiple same listings
Hi Folks,
Small office setup, 3 computers, 3 staff.
Recently updated system and rebooted.
Today, I am seeing crazy amounts of the same listing for clients (294 lines!) and open files...
(snipped content below, you really don't want PAGES of it!)

Using mail_chroot and default_mail_env
Settings for mail_chroot and default_mail_env are not playing well together.
It seems that default_mail_env is verified to exist *before* the chroot
but is later used *after* the chroot.
A configuration like this:
* mail_chroot = /var/mail/example.com/username
* default_mail_env = maildir:/Maildir
Fails with the message:
* stat(/Maildir) failed: No such file or directory

Questions about mail process chroots
Greetings,
I am configuring a new Dovecot installation, and the way the
valid_chroot_dirs and mail_chroot variables affect the mail processes are a
bit unclear to me. I was wondering if anyone could provide me with more
specific details than the comments in the configuration file do, or maybe
even recommend some values given my configuration.
We have a Debian GNU/Linux system and a mix of users

Not possible to chown as guest?
I run Samba server on my OpenWRT router. I normally access the share
as guest from my Linux box. Here's the relevant line from my

samba 2.2.7a and multiple logins...
Hello
I use a new samba server with LDAP support as PDC for some Windows2000
and WindowsXP machines.
All is working nice. The useer can login with a user/password in the
domain, we have remote profiles, the user can access the samba shares
and print etc.
But after some time (< 1 day) we get a smbstatus output like the
attached file. Users are connected multiple times with the same share

[patch] Two problems in testsuite (POSIX, perms)
Hello,
Noticed a couple of problems with the rsync testsuite. I have included
a possible patch for each problem (attached & inlined.)
The first problem is that on OpenBSD when make test is run and tests
are skipped you see messages like this:
cat: "/tmp/rsync-2/rsync/testtmp.chown/whyskipped": No such file or directory
SKIP chown ()
After my patch, you get the appropriate

Dovecot 1.1.10 and chroot
As it's been a while since I upgraded (1.1rc10, jump to 1.1.10), this
might be present in earlier versions as well.
Anyway, if one enables mail_chroot in global config file, dovecot will
try to access /tmp there. Per-user overrides behave correctly.
For example, with:
mail_chroot=/home/vmail
dovecot will abort with:
Fatal: chdir(/home/vmail/tmp) failed with uid 65534: No such file or

LDA and chroot
Hi,
I'd like to ask: is it possible to use Dovecot's LDA with mail_chroot
variable set,
e.g. "mail_chroot = /serv/storage19/vmail"?
Without "mail_chroot" set all works fine.
If mail_chroot is set and user database contains relative paths to home
directory (without chroot part like
"domain.net/user") deliver ignores this and tries to work at real root,

1.0.13: mail_extra_groups alternative syntax?
"Warning: mail_extra_groups setting was often used insecurely so it is
now deprecated, use mail_access_groups or mail_privileged_group instead"
I use the following:
mail_extra_groups = mail nogroup
Because I have the real and virtual accounts.
What's the correct way to replace the above line? It seems that
mail_privileged_group only accepts one group, but I need two.

involved software.

Performance of concatenating strings
Hi,
I would like to ask how the paste(S1, S2, sep="") function internally
works. Are the two stings copied to a new String?
I have a program where successively strings are build up. First the
program calls an external function and depending on the result it
builds up strings to visualize the result. The external function is
really fast, also for huge input data. But the

OS X Clients Unable To Create Subdirectories?
I asked about this a few days ago, but none of the suggestions have made any difference... asking again in the hopes I'll find more things to try....
