maildir++ specification compliance.
Hi folks. I was doing some testing this morning and realized Dovecot RC2 isn't fully compliant with the maildir++ specification. Most notably, it appears that Dovecot isn't creating a "maildirfolder" file (0 byte length) in folders it creates. >From http://www.inter7.com/courierimap/README.maildirquota.html "Within each subdirectory there's an empty file,

maildirfolder file created in maildir root during auto-creation with 2.3.4.1 but not 2.2.27
Hello, as the tin says. I have several servers running 2.2.27 (Debian stretch) and am adding new ones with 2.3.4.1 (Debian buster). The configs were upgraded where needed but neither 10-mail.conf nor 15-mailboxes.conf were changed. 15-mailboxes is all commented out (I guess the default is auto-create, which isn't documented anywhere I could find) and the only non-comments in 10-mail.conf are

Dovecot dsync not replicating ".dovecot.sieve -> .sieve/managesieve.sieve" / setactive
Hello, I've ran into problem with Dovecot and dsync replication. Everything works perfectly, including replication of sieve scripts, except fact that if user activates the 'managesieve' ruleset (I'm using currently Roundcubemail) on "mail1" host, it wouldn't be activated on "mail2" host, by creating symlink ".dovecot.sieve ->

v1.0.13: maildirfolder not being created
Hi, I'm using version 1.0.13 of dovecot. I know it's somewhat dated, but that's the latest that Debian etch offers, and I would like to avoid compiling by myself if possible. dovecot is not creating the 'maildirfolder' in folders that are created via IMAP. Looking at the NEWS file, this was implemented in v1.0.rc7, so my version should have that working already. Is

dsync not replicating ".dovecot.sieve -> .sieve/managesieve.sieve"
Hi, Currently using dovecot 2.3.2.1 and pigeonhole 0.5.2 on two identical hosts. I recently noticed ".dovecot.sieve" and ".sieve/managesieve.sieve" are not replicating from one host to the other in either direction. Mail is having no trouble replicating on both hosts with dsync, it is only sieve files that are not replicating for unclear reasons. # doveconf -n host 1:

best practices for migrating to new dovecot version
I have a machine with my mail service on it running Debian Squeeze. The version of dovecot on that server is 1.2.15. I'm building a new server with Ubuntu 18.04 (started with 16.04, upgraded in place), where the dovecot version is 2.2.33. I plan to migrate all my services to this new machine. The virtual mailboxes are on disk in maildir format, with accounts in a mysql database managed by

Empty file in maildirs
I am cleaning up some old users, and found that in every maildir folder there is an empty file called maildirfolder, created at the time the original dovecot was installed. Is this empty file necessary for dovecot, or is it left there in an upgrade proces and can it be removed? Dovecot 2.1.7, on Debian wheezy. -- Roel Wagenaar, Linux-User #469851 with the Linux Counter;

Need suggestion regarding index file and Quota settings.
Dear All, My system has about 30,000 accounts and these accounts are created as unix system users. Each account has its own entry in /etc/passwd with different UID and home directory. We plan to deploy an Layer 4 switch as a load balancer. Proposed architecure is as the following: ---- internet ---- Layer 4 switch ---- mail server1 ---- NFS storage |

convert plugin created maildirfolder file in root maildir directory
I've noticed that if a user's maildir gets created by deliver or pop/imap without the convert plugin running, the maildir structure is fine (no maildirfolder file). But, if a user gets converted, there is a maildirfolder file in the user's base maildir directory. As far as I can tell, that doesn't cause any problems, but I just wanted to mention it. I've looked at the code

Possible bug in v1.1.1
Greetings, I recently upgraded our server from Dovecot 1.0.14 to 1.1.1. I am building using the FreeBSD ports system, so nothing is custom aside from the flags set there. dovecot fell down a few days after the update with: pid 1823 (imap), uid 1000: exited on signal 11 the mail log shows: Jul 4 14:36:07 hostname dovecot: IMAP(username): Corrupted index cache file

maildirfolder is created world-writeable
If I create a new folder using a mail client (eg. kmail/OE), the maildirfolder file is created world-writable. I assume that this is a security risk and should be -rw-------. eg. - create folder "Foo" in mail client ~ $ ls -la .maildir/.Foo/ total 20 drwx------ 5 robert users 4096 2009-01-21 19:56 . drwx------ 43 robert users 4096 2009-01-21 19:56 .. drwx------ 2 robert users 4096

maildirsize quota does not referred after migration from courier
Dear All, We would like to migrate our existing courier to dovecot. After reading document on website and doing some tests, here are some issues we met. 1. According the the wiki, it seems to imply that once migrating from courier to dovecot, pop3 users may "lost/forget" their download "index/ history" which cause them to download again old mails that are kept on

maildirsize quota counting locking account?
Hi, I've just straced a dovecot imap process and found one thread sitting there doing hundreds and hundreds of maildirsize updates as follows: > > open("/home/virtual/mydomain.com/home/admin/Maildir/maildirsize", O_RDWR|O_APPEND) = 7 > read(7, "10485760000S\n1562717408 107547\n-"..., 5120) = 2446 > read(7, "", 2674) = 0 >

Courier migrating issues: indexes, maildirsize, update query
Hi, (my first post to the list) I'm in the process of testing Dovecot to see whether it meets our needs to replace our current Courier setup which serves well over 100.000 mailboxes (pop3 and imap: mysql with NFS) So far dovecot seems pretty straight forward; however I ran into a couple of things that I'm curious about. 1. What's the deal with

Slightly OT : Maildir format (silly) questions
Hello, I was asking what was the motivation for not having the envelope From in the Maildir format, as defined in the qmail spec : "The message is delivered without an extra UUCP- style From_ line, without any >From quoting, and without an extra blank line at the end." which may sound silly since we lose an important piece of information. Same question about the motivation in

GETQUOTAROOT (part 2)
Hello, I'm a recent convert to dovecot from courier-imap and the performance has certainly improved. I'm running the vanilla 1.0.7 version that came with the CentOS 5.2 x86_64 distro. I've come across a similar problem that was posted by Ralf Hildebrandt earlier this year under the same subject, but that thread just seems to have died off. I'm also using per- user maildirsize
