viewing a subset of folders in dumb IMAP clients
I have several dozen IMAP folders (stored as Maildir++). When I'm on
the go with my iPhone, I only want to see a few of them.
My naive solution that didn't work:
1) create an alternate login that yields my existing permissions and
mail folder, but stores its own version of metadata
2) configure the iPhone to use that login
3) subscribe to the folders I want

relay-ctrl works
In case anyone still cares, relay-ctrl works with Dovecot. Dovecot's
end of the bargain requires a dirty little script to set TCPREMOTEIP
based on the arguments passed from imap-login:
#!/bin/sh
TCPREMOTEIP=`echo "$@" | sed -e 's|.* ||' -e 's|]$||'`
export TCPREMOTEIP
exec "$@"
And this (long) line in dovecot.conf:

I have only seen this happen twice so far. I do not know what the two
users were doing to cause it.

Handling ENFILE
My mail server consumed all of its configured file table slots and
started returning ENFILE ("Too many open files in system") for many
operations. This wreaked havoc with dovecot-1.1.13. Here are some
areas where dovecot should detect and more gracefully handle ENFILE
error returns:
1. Deliver should report an error more helpful than "Unknown internal
error" when

dovecot: child 53439 (imap) killed with signal 11
For quite some time I have seen dovecot imap exit with a sig11 without
any other error message,
but usually with the frequency of between once per week and once per day
(per server). A few weeks
ago I finally enabled core dumping with debug symbols and it seemed to
happen less often. I finally
caught a coredump that wasn't overwritten. I have no idea what on the
client end may cause it,

my_vsnprintf crash on HP-UX
Hi,
sorry for the double post, I stupidly composed this as a reply to an
earlier mail, which causes it to appear in an older thread. Posting
again so it doesn't get lost in the archives:
dovecot 1.1.7 reliably crashes every time I try to open a mailbox using
IMAP. Error in the logs:

Compilation of 1.1.6 fails on HP-UX 11.31
Hi,
$ uname -srv
HP-UX B.11.31 U
$ cc --version
cc: HP C/aC++ B3910B A.06.20 [May 13 2008]
Compilation fails, output of configure and make are given below. The
cause of this is almost certainly that this version of HP-UX does define
the QCMD macro in sys/quota.h (checked in the ifdef line 26
dovecot-1.1.6/src/plugins/quota/quota-fs.h) as well as the dqblk struct,
but the latter with different

Remote storage
What options are available for remote storage, i.e. storage devices
directly mounted on the machine running Dovecot? I've seen discussions
of NFS usage - but my experiences with NFS in times past have been
poor. CIFS has worked well for me for non-mail use - would this be
suitable? Or is there another method I've not considered?

Debian and Ubuntu packages of 1.0.14
Debian unstable now has packages of 1.0.14, and xapian-core has migrated to
testing, but the other packages haven't due to an odd issue on HPPA.
The xapian-backports PPA on launchpad now has 1.0.14 backports, including
libsearch-perl-xapian 1.0.14.0 (except on Ubuntu 6.06 (dapper)):

Availability of OCFS 1.0.14 for RHAS 2.1 Itanium64
Do you have a timeline when the OCFS 1.0.14-1 will be available on RHAS
2.1 Itanium 64 platform? Or is there going to be one? We notice that
OCFS 1.0.14-1 has been available for RHAS 2.1 32 bit for quite a while.
Thanks.

Migrate to 1.1 from 1.0.14
Hello.
I see dovecot 1.1 will be release very soon. I'm thinking about a
migration from my 1.0.14. The migration job will be hard/long?
I see in http://wiki.dovecot.org/Upgrading/1.1 that dovecot-uidlist
file are in a new format. It will be problem for Courier (pop/imap)
upgrades? (today, I often upgrade old mailboxes in Courier to my
Dovecot server).
Best regards,

Dovecot 1.0.14 + osx 10.6 and authentication PAM
Howdy,
Today I installed the new version of Apple OSX 10.6. Besides that it
deleted the dovecot user, things went quite smooth. As far as I can tell
it is running as it used to.
However, I can't login to my account. It used to work fine with PAM
taking the username and password from my osx installation. Now it
doesn't allow me to login anymore.
I have read on a website that apple

1.0.14 error on Windows-XP
Hi...
Tinc v1.0.13 works fine on Windows XP but Tinc v1.0.14 shows only an error
message (tinc -n xxx -d5 -D). The error message is "System command
'setpriority' failed. Command not found"...
Any suggestions ?
Kind regards,
Michael
