1.0.rc12 released
http://dovecot.org/releases/dovecot-1.0.rc12.tar.gz
http://dovecot.org/releases/dovecot-1.0.rc12.tar.gz.sig
Since rc11 has problems compiling with BSDs, here's a new release. Just
two changes:
- rc11 didn't compile with some compilers
- default_mail_env fallbacking was broken with --exec-mail
Here's also again the rc11 changes:
* Renamed default_mail_env to mail_location.

rc12 dovecot-auth core dump with ldap
Hi,
I've got a core dump during initialisation when I use 1.0.rc12 and LDAP
with authenticated binds in Solaris. It worked OK in 1.0.rc10. Here's
the non-commented entries in dovecot-ldap.conf - some of which are
probably redundant :) :-
hosts = xxx.yyy.rdg.ac.uk
auth_bind = yes
auth_bind_userdn = "cn=%n,cn=users,dc=xxx,dc=yyy,dc=rdg,dc=ac,dc=uk"
ldap_version = 3

imap_capability setting
In src/master/master-settings.c, there is a config variable
"imap_capability" that is read in from the conf file... but in the rest of
the code it looks like that variable is never used. I assume this is
there for future use, but just wanted to confirm that the code not using
it was intentional.
Since we are using Dovecot as an IMAP proxy for a Courier backend (for
now), we need to

~/.maildir preferable to %h/Maildir and ~/Maildir?
I have a recently deployed dovecot server and am readying another. Upon
updating to rc12, I note the following change in the default dovecot.conf
file:
-default_mail_env = mbox:/var/spool/mail/%u:INDEX=/var/dovecot/%u
+mail_location = maildir:~/.maildir
Integrating this change to my local dovecot.conf:
# formerly used default_mail_env = maildir:%h/Maildir

How to give system and virtual users their own mail_location?
Hi all.
Now hopefully as a new thread because I still have this question. Apologies
to Geert and Timo for my misbehaviour...(repling to the list and changing
the subject).
I hace Dovecot rc12 working on Mandriva 2007.0 now for system accounts and
virtual accounts both imap and imaps can be used. Th problem now is that I
cannot use both types of user at the same time. The 'mail_location =

I/O leak
I upgraded from rc12 to rc14 last night... sifting through the logs I noticed
the following. I point this out since it appears dovecot is in high gear
bug-fix mode. This issue is not big for me; I rarely stop dovecot. My init.d
script for dovecot is basically
stop)
killall dovecot imap-login
I am guessing there might be a more graceful way to stop dovecot? Or rc14
fixed this? I see in

SIP phone w/ XML browser
Still looking for cheaper (under $250,-) alternative to cisco 7940 with
features needed for corporate use, mainly:
- shared phone book (e.g. via LDAP or XML browser in phone)
- in-line power
- missed/dialed/received numbers
- integrated switch (voice VLAN support)
I found only aastara/sayson phone (and Intracom/Netphone in the past),
that has xml services anounced, but still not available, so

tinc under Windows
Hello everyone,
Last week the CVS version of tinc gained the ability to run under
Windows, in a Cygwin environment (http://www.cygwin.com), making use of
the virtual network driver from the CIPE project
(http://cipe-win32.sourceforge.net/). Preparations were also being made
to support Windows without Cygwin.
Today James Yonan of OpenVPN (http://openvpn.sourceforge.net/) anounced a

Benchmark code, but avoid printing
Dear all,
I am trying to benchmark code that occasionally prints on the screen
and I want to
suppress the printing. Is there an idiom for this?
If I do
sink(tempfile)
microbenchmark(...)
sink()
then I'll be also measuring the costs of writing to tempfile. I could
also sink to /dev/null, which is probably fast, but that is not
portable.
Is there a better solution? Is writing to a

Capability info in hello message not complete?
Hi,
one Fedora user complains about not some troubles after update to dovecot 1.2.
He suspects wrong capability information given by dovecot 1.2
In dovecot.conf he uses imap_capability= option. While response to 'A
CAPABILITY' respects imap_capability value, the capability info in hello
message does not.

* IMAP: IDLE now sends "Still here" notifications to same user's
connections at the same time. This hopefully reduces power usage
of some mobile clients that use multiple IDLEing connections.
* IMAP: If imap_capability is set, show it in the login banner.
