TypeError: no implicit conversion of Symbol into Hash when submitting form to upload files
I''m currently new to Rails and Ruby and I''m trying to learn from my
mistakes, this time I''m trying to upload 2 files from a form for later
processing, however, after I hit the "Submit" button. I keep getting this
error:

mangled filenames
Hi all,
I'm running Samba 3.0.31_1,1 on FreeBSD 7.0.
I have a problem where some files on the fileserver appear to have
illegal characters in them and so look mangled-up when viewed over Samba.
Here's an example, listing files over Samba:
rococo% ls PR
Archive
Awards
ACD76Y~N <-- Inhouse folder
AOBC8G~A <-- Outhouse folder
Listing the same files directly on the

long filenames always mangled under dos
I create a Bootdisk from Win98 with "sys a:" and the netsetup from the
Microsoft FTP-server to have TCP/IP under DOS.
I can map the shares from Samba to a drive with:
"net use d: \\server\win98"
The problem is that all long filenames are mangled, but not in the way
DOS does it.
The Folder "Program Files" does not become "Progra~1" but "Progr~4Z".

accented characters in filenames mangled when rsyncing to a samba share
Hi folks,
I am having a problem rsyncing files with accents in the names. I've
seen similar problems reported a few times before in the archives but
they didn't seem to be referring to exactly the same problem as what I
have, and I'm not good enough at Linux to solve my problem by
generalising from the information there: sorry.
Anyway, my specific details are this. I am running rsync

testing file uploads
Hi all,
I was wondering about the class used when rails receives file uploads.
Sometimes it appears to be a File, and other times it is a StringIO.
Also it has methods such as original_filename that don''t appear to
belong to either of these classes. I ask because I''m trying to work out
how to test my fil upload related models and controllers.
Is there some standardised way of

I want to upload file using get method.

my local file to the remote server.
I found one useful link about file uploading here(http://

Even I''ve changed some code in order to fit my rails version, it
worked well. But the problem is I have use

Newbie: Can''t get file to upload
Since I can''t get the fancy upload progress thing to work, I thought
that I would revert back to a regular file upload scenario.
I have a very simple file upload form set up. It appears that my file
parameter is coming into the controller as a string, not a file object.
Here''s my view:
<%= form_tag :action => ''save_HTML'',
:multipart

Upload Progress Bar not showing
Hi. I''m setting up an upload form for internal users of a Rails site,
and I''m trying to use the Upload Progress Bar plugin from
http://sean.treadway.info/demo/upload/. I followed the directions as set
out in the Rails Wiki
(http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/Upload+Progress+Bar).
Basically the problem is no progress bar or any upload information shows
up. In WEBrick, I

Converting an Uploaded File to a string while maintaining binary data
Ok so it boils down to this I uploaded a picture into a
ActionDispatch::Http::UploadedFile and want to convert it to a string
before I send it off google storage. When I do this it complains about
having null characters.
I had the same problem when I was experimenting with files from my hard
drive with the same function. I was able to do it with:
File.open( ''filename'',

Rails File Upload w/ Ajax Update?
I''m trying to upload a file, display the upload progress and then
update a table with the newly uploaded file. Is there a way to
specify a :success handler for form_tag_with_upload_progress such that
I have access to the request.response data (in the way I can with
link_to_remote)?
The :finish JavaScript is being executed but because there is no
request object, the table

File Upload problem when file is small, under 19k(read method returns nothing)
Hi
I hope someone can shed some light on this have searched a lot but found
nothing definite. This happens on Ubuntu and Fedora 2.
I am having a problem with uploading small files (images gif or jpeg
under 19k).
According to ruby documentation these are stored temporarily as StringIO
objects rather than temporary files (as is done with the larger file
uploads).
The problem is that when it

Hi there,
I posted this issue
<https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=de#!topic/carrierwave/ergk9LaO68k>at
the carrierwave-group, but I''m beginning to think this rather is a
rails-issue than a problem with carrierwave. The problem''s this:

File UPLOAD and put it on a DB BLOB
@contact = Contact.new
@contact.file_file_name=params[:contact][:file].original_filename
@contact.file_content_type=params[:contact][:file].content_type.chomp
@contact.file=params[:contact][:file].read
@contact.save
the first two elements work,
@contact.file=params[:contact][:file].read results empty, can you say
me where I am wrong.
