FreeBSD port: port's patch for 1.1rc3
For those who wants testing 1.1rc3 on FreeBSD, this is a simple patch
against /usr/ports/mail/dovecot.
To apply:
# cd /usr/ports/mail/dovecot
# patch -p1 < /tmp/patch_dovecot_1.0.13-1.1.rc3.diff
Hope I did not forget something important... This is an adaptation of
the existing port.
PS: for port's maintainer: Which way will take 1.0 vs 1.1 upgrade ? a
new mail/dovecot10 port or ?
Hope

Dovecot 1.1rc3 "Out of Memory" crashes from pop3-login?
We recently began seeing server crashes in our cluster related to
"pop3-login", which is causing "oom-killer" to be invoked. The server
only recovers after a reboot.
From dovecot.conf:
login_process_per_connection = yes
login_processes_count = 16
login_max_processes_count = 256
(Should we try switching processes_per_connection to no?)

Dovecot 1.1rc3 crashes with Dbox + imap_quota plugin
Version: Dovecot v1.1.rc3
OS: CentOS 5 running in OpenVZ
CPU: x86_64
Was running fine with maildir and decided to get dbox a try. Test user
created with a dbox mailstore backend and when a client logs in that tries
to run a getquotaroot imap command the process SIGSEGV's.
Have been able to narrow it down to dbox crashing against dict quota as
well as dirsize. Maildir works just fine.

UID inserted in the middle of mailbox errors
Hi,
We are still getting, on a daily basis, users who cannot move messages
to Trash or expunge Trash due to these errors:
Mar 28 10:43:57 tm2 dovecot: [ID 107833 mail.error] IMAP(kss021):
mbox sync: UID inserted in the middle of mailbox
/home/kss021/Mail/Trash (3137 > 536, seq=2, idx_msgs=76)
Our users have no other access to their mailbox other than Dovecot,
and we are using mbox

Strange dmesg messages
Guys,
I'm getting strange messages on my new server with dovecot-1.1rc4 + lda
+ sieve + ldap + postfix + suse10. This server is in production since
monday, and worked fine until today. The only thing I had changed was
dovecot from 1.1rc3 to 1.1rc4. I already enabled mail_debug, but I got
any erros after that.
Does anyone have any idea of what is happening?

v1.1.8 released
http://dovecot.org/releases/1.1/dovecot-1.1.8.tar.gz
http://dovecot.org/releases/1.1/dovecot-1.1.8.tar.gz.sig
Most importantly mbox bugfixes. v1.1 should finally be as stable with
mboxes as it was with v1.0. Hopefully we'll also soon have the first
v1.2 beta release and the final v1.2.0 somewhat soon after that.

FETCH for mailbox INBOX UID 5003 got too little data: 5369 vs 38919
This happened a while back, I was running 1.1rc3 up until today so I have no idea
if it would have an effect. Sorry if its something that has been fixed. The
error below was repeated many many times, I deleted the index so the user would
stop getting disconnected (although I didn't hear any complaints). I have not
seen this happen repeatedly in this manner to any other user yet.

mbox with sub-folders and messages?
Hi,
Is it possible to have dovecot configured to use mbox format and yet
have folders that contains sub-folders and messages? I'm thinking of
a simple setup where any files directory with extension .sbd are
presented to the IMAP client without the extension. So if you have a
mbox file named BOX01 and a directory name BOX01.sdb would show has one
on the client side (note: that is the way

Redirect console error to a log file
Hi,
This should be simple but I can''t make it work. JRuby 1.1RC3 on Rails
2.0.2, Mongrel 1.1.4 (Java), WinXP.
I start the development server from a command line. When I hit a page
the console fills up with error messages that do not appear in the log
file. There are so many messages that I can''t scroll up to the top.
How do I get these messages into a log file?
TIA,
John

Dovecot 1.1: Ignoring Trash/Junk for maildirsize?
Hi all,
We're testing Dovecot 1.1rc3, but have run into a snag with IMAP Quota's
and the way Trash and Junk folders can be handled.
Our MTA (Exim) quota configuration uses this option:
maildir_quota_directory_regex = ^(?:cur|new|\.(?!Junk$)(?!Trash$).*)$
This completely excludes "Junk" and "Trash" from the "maildirsize" file
and quota calculations.
