Expuning & Purging doesn't fully remove emails?
Hello, I'm facing an issue where deleted emails keep re-appearing after my mailbox index gets recreated.??I'm running version 2.2.36 of dovecot, but I tested the same scenario under 2.3.10. I'm also using mdbox, autoexpunge, and using dovecot replication.
I've had several instances now where some expunged emails show up again in a mailbox. I noticed this error:
doveadm: Error:

Expuning & Purging doesn't fully remove emails?
But is that not adviced in the manual[1]? I am also in the process of
setting up dovecot behind a haproxy. Still testing with this. I was
wondering why one would choose haproxy and not eg dovecot proxy (with
director)

Another ''found a bug'' problem - This time with user purging.
Ok, given the statement on the web page about unlesssystemuser under
Resources (
http://reductivelabs.com/projects/puppet/documentation/typedocs.html#resources),
I assume that users can be purged.
However, when I attempt to do this with resources { user: purge => true,
noop => true } and what I get is:
err: Found a bug: private method ''split'' called for nil:NilClass.

Nagios purge deleted items and notify nagios service problem
I am using stored configs to manage my nagios host and services checks and
I have run into a problem that I have been unable to solve. When the
stored configs are purged from puppet the nagios server correctly removes
them from the services and hosts file but does not notify the nagios
service and instead throws an error. So the entries are still there and
nagios still reports on them until

Purging /var/mail/username ?
Dovecot is delivering mail to my ~/.mail directory wonderfully. But
/var/mail/michael is growing steadily.
Is it the job of Dovecot to purge this file regularly? Is there a setting
somewhere for this?
Thanks,
Michael

Recovering expunged but not purged e-mails from mdbox with zlib compression
Yesterday I had to recover an e-mail which a user had deleted. If I
understand this correctly the message was expunged but not purged
(doveadm purge had not been run).
This e-mail was clearly still in the mdbox stored with zlib compression
as I could tell using the doveadm dump command (doveadm dump -t dbox
filename).
I could however not reveal the e-mail with the normal doveadm fetch -u

Expuning & Purging doesn't fully remove emails?
?I managed to figure this out.
Just wanted to follow up if anyone in the future encounters the same issue.
I am using HAProxy along with dovecot replication. When an email comes in... it is round robin'd to each of the 2 dovecot/postfix servers. I have postfix running on each server and it uses the local dovecot LMTP service for storing the mails.
We sometimes get surges of emails(hundreds

Race condition when setting flags (\Deleted) + expunge quickly, leaving mails not deleted

Has anyone managed to reproduce this (using my transcript for example)?
With mutt, I get this problem.. If I set 'imap_pipeline_depth=0' in
.muttrc, I can't seem to reproduce it anymore.

problem with dovecot and thunderbird while deleting
Hello!
I have very strange problem with dovecot and thunderbird while deleting
messages. The problem is that they are not actually deleted from storage
filesystem and if I later run mutt I can perfectly see them, though
marked with 'D', so mutt ask to delete them on exit and this time they
dissapear from filesystem. I enabled in thunderbird 'remove it
iimediately' feature, but

How to purge mailboxes manually [dovecot_1.2.15]
Hi,
we have a linux network at the office. Mainly ubuntu and debian
systems.
Each user has it's own mail client, thunderbird, evolution, etc.
In the mail server we use as the local delivery agent, dovecot 1.2.15
and the protocol imap.
The users mailbox are in the server at /var/mail.
Due to some kind of problem the mails that are set for delete in the
mail client are not being

(somewhat ot?) purging old maildir messages
I'm using Dovecot (+postfix) to host some personal imap accounts on a
private server (Maildir format). I've got one account that receives
mostly automated mails, and I want to be able to purge messages beyond
a given date (say 30 days).
I know that since maildir uses flat files, I can literally just delete
messages doing something similar to the following with bash:

Maildir, imap and newness of messages
I'm using the standard Dovecot 0.99.14 on Fedora Core 4, with a
Maildir++ mailbox. I've noticed what I think is an oddity in the way
dovecot handles messages:
According to the Maildir specification, a message in Maildir/new is a
truly new message, which has not yet been touched by any reader. From
an IMAP viewpoint, such a message should have the flag RECENT.
However, if a message exists

Purging info about a deleted node
Hello all,
this is just a minor nuisance but nevertheless I would not dislike a
solution for it.
I run a mixed 1.0/1.1 VPN. Some time ago I've removed a node from the
VPN (wiped the disk, so deleting the private keys). Over the time I've
removed the corresponding public keys (among with all the infos related
to the node) from the other nodes. All nodes have been restarted more

Performance with 200k messages in Maildir
What should I expect performance-wise if I put 200000 messages in a
Maildir store and use two or three MUAs (mutt and Thunderbird), on an
Athlon dual core 2GHz with SATA drives in software RAID (Linux)?
Like; would it be useless/crawling, usable or pretty fast. I imagine MUA
startup / first time folder read would be slow, but daily use more or
less ok.
Thanks to Dovecot's indexing, I imagine

Problems after upgrading to 2.3.2.1
Hi,
I've just upgraded dovecot from 2.2.35 to 2.3.2.1 on my mail server
and noticed something odd. My mail clients (mutt and Apple mail) both stopped
seeing new mail in my mailboxes.
For example, ~/Maildir/mailinglist1/new has 5 new mails. In mutt, vieweing the
list of mailboxes mutt reports 0 new mail for "mailinglist1". Opening up the
actual mailbox in mutt reveals the 5 new
