Machine reboot - monit fails to start mongrels
Greetings -
I dug around a bit and I couldn''t find a definitive answer to this
question, apologies if it''s been covered before. A box running a
apache 2.2 -> mongrel cluster for a rails app got power cycled at my
ISP. Unfortunately monit couldn''t start the mongrel processes
because the pid files were still there. Here is my monit config (for

Puppet with Passenger - 403 Forbidden
Morning all
Am in the process of testing a migration of Puppet 3 from webrick to
Puppet.
Have found the foreman modules (https://github.com/theforeman) which seems
to take care of a lot of the leg-work...
However having got Puppet running with Passenger in Apache, whenever trying
to access the Puppet master from a client, I was getting a ''403 Forbidden
error''.

Question about auth multiple configuration
Hello,
My mail system is build with postfix, dovecot and roundcube.
In first time users can view and "manage" their mail only on the webmail.
So this one (webmail) use IMAP (no tls/ssl at all) authentication to give access to users maildir. This connection is made on the 'loopback' interface and use PLAIN method.
This works fine (configuration below without ssl parameters).

FW: Network Magazine 04/04/04 Article pg 19 (Free IP Telephony PBXs?)
The networkmag@cmp.com appears to be broken. I dug around the magazine
contacts and found Doug Allen, senior editor, you can send comments to
dallen2@cmp.com . I didn't get a bounce back from that e-mail so I assume
it made it to the editor.

Multiple FB apps in a single Facebooker app?
May seem strange but I''ve gotten a couple requests from clients [2 out
of 4] abt this.. generally the requirement is that they want to serve
up slightly different content but from more or less the same app.. I
dug into init.rb and determined that its seems likely with some
rearranging of facebooker.yml config - is there anything else of the
top of anybody''s head that might be an

Hi there. I've done some googling around to try and find an example
of what I'm trying to do, but it's one of those things that just seems
hard to find the right terms to search for. If there's some
documentation out there on this, I'd appreciate being pointed in the
right direction. If not, then if someone has some

Multiple tenants on Rails
Hi,
I''ve dug into some previous discussion on this list about having multiple
clients running on a single Rails site.
I can see how to work this out with a single project type. For example, my
tenants all have their own CMS in a single Rails environment.
What if 3 of my clients have a CMS site, 5 have an e-book site and 2 a
dating site. Is there a way to house these websites within a

regarding ssl certificates
Is there some reason to use a mail.domain.com cert for mail rarher than just using domain.com for everything?
Historically the subdomain were used because they were on different hardware. That is www was on one machine and mail was on another.

I've dug deeper and that was indeed the case. Here's a patch which

Dovecot SSL issues
Hello all,
successfully managed to make dovecot work with horde (http://www.horde.org)
and another MTA (SMTP/POP3).
I have this nagging issue with dovecot though (I suspect - it's dovecot and
not the rest of the packages, please read on):
There is this special page one goes, that check if everything is ok with
all the relevant software running along Horde. It's a php file called

auth, partially resolved
Hello people,
After a lot of wading through the dovecot documentation (which btw, is
excellent !, everything lies under "dovecot/doc/wiki"), I managed to
authenticate a couple of accounts.
For starters, I want dovecot to work as an imap/imaps box and nothing
else.
So , I went ahead and created a "passwd" file with two users.
One user being my name (spyros) and plaintext

Call for testing: OpenSSH-5.6
Hi,
OpenSSH 5.6 is almost ready for release, so we would appreciate testing
on as many platforms and systems as possible. This is a moderately large
release, with a number of new features and bug fixes.
Snapshot releases for portable OpenSSH are available from
http://www.mindrot.org/openssh_snap/
The OpenBSD version is available in CVS HEAD:

Unable to get dummy interfaces to persist across reboots in CentOS 8
Hello all, hoping someone can help me out here.
I cannot get dummy interfaces on a new Cent8 build to persist across reboots.
On Cent7 - this is the process I use:
Create Dummies:
# cat /etc/modules-load.d/dummy.conf
dummy
# cat /etc/modprobe.d/dummyopts.conf
options dummy numdummies=4
# ip link add dummy0 type dummy

PKI and SSH (cont.)
Dear List...
I have a similar question to the one that is copied below. I
am trying to get instructions for configuring OpenSSH to use PKI
based authentication.
I understand that I can provide the server with the public keys
of the client machines to get this working (one way) but the next
step is where I would like to go...
I want SSHD to authenticate my users based upon the "Root

RFC: DI: Stop preserving types from dead functions
Way back in r107027, we started preserving type information of local
variables of functions that are optimized away. This seemed strange to
me so I dug into the history: apparently, this is so that ctfconvert can
find these types (so they can be exposed in dtrace).
E.g., this commit made it so that for this C code:
static void foo(void) { struct X { int b; } v; }
we always get the type

Client Cert Auth Problem
Hello,
is there a config possible which supports both of following
authentication schemes ?
1st: If user presents a client certificate, he can log in w/o
username/password, where user id comes from CN. Accepting any password
is not the right solution.
2nd: If user does not present a client certificate, he have to
authenticate by username/password.
In both cases user data is read from userdb

Network guru please help: baffled by missing file
The mirrorlist entry in my Fedora-11 /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-update.repo
reads:
mirrorlist=https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=updates-released-
f$releasever&arch=$basearch
As far as I can see, this means that yum is looking for
the file metalink at mirrors.fedoraproject.org ?
If I try "sudo yum update" I get:
