transaction support in ferret
I have a model called "Business". Each object say @business can be tagged by any user. When i do ferret update for this object(on adding a new tag or editing it), there always a possibility that another user is also tagging it. I am using the std rails pluggin for tagging ''acts_as_taggable''. So is the indexing done properly. Or would there be any problem? Thanks

Theora and Vorbis problems
Hi all, I've been trying to add Vorbis to my Theora stream, and it seems to be working in mplayer and oggz-validate seems fine with it (apart from the missing EOS flags in the final pages, but this is expected). Xine and Cortado are both making a mess of it though: http://www.firestorm.cx/files/followthedot.ogg It's a very boring moving green dot - it moves smoothly in mplayer, bounces

acts_as_taggable not loading in dev environment?
It seems in my development environment I keep throwing: undefined local variable or method `acts_as_taggable'' for Item:Clas Indicating that the acts_as_taggable pluggin is not loading, yet in my test enviroment I can run tests against act_as_taggable methods for that very same class just fine. Has anyone else experienced this? Tim Case tim@karmacrash.com -------------- next part

A samba or a mutt problem?
I have to briefly describe my situation before posing my problem. I do almost all my work including reading e-mail with mutt on two unix machines. For various reasons related to the fact that we are in the tropics I have moved both machines to the university machine room. I sit in front of a Pentium PC running Windows 95. I use telnet to get to one unix machine and X Windows emulation to get to

Hi list, I hope that maybe one of you can shed some light on this, as this is a very strange case and I don't even have the slightest clue from what this symptom may all come from. MS Word from samba share
A few days ago I send a message titled "A samba question or a mutt question". I got a few repies but they suggested wide work-arounds to the problem. I have done some more work and it is clear it is not anything to do with the mail side of what I was trying. The question or problem I have is essentially this:- How do you double click on a MS Word icon to bring the document into MS Word

Dropped / Duplicate Frames
Hi all, I've been playing with Theora this week and have hacked together a test program (http://www.firestorm.cx/live1/) that can encode live video (no audio) from a V4L* source that supports the YUV420 pixel format. Now encoding Theora ain't exactly a speedy process, and sometimes frames get lost during capturing. What I'd like to be able to do is tell libtheora that the next few

Theora in stream directory
Hi All, I've got a plain Ogg Theora stream (no Vorbis) and just tried getting it listed at dir.xiph.org, which works but it's being listed as an "Ogg Vorbis" stream with no bitrate. I'm using libshout to send the stream to Icecast. Is there something I've missed or a bug in the directory browser? It may not expect a video-only stream? The stream is called

Common Linux Power Management (HAL and NUT) (was: Re: ideas for a new UPS infrastructure)
Hi David and fellows, I'm reviving this important thread about a common power management. To sum up, the first aim is to allow a better user experience on Linux by bridging NUT with Linux HAL, and Gnome Power Management / any PM GUI. But it also initiate a bigger investigation about how to integrate NUT support for UPSs into the native OS Power Management infrastructure for all supported
