pulling information from LDAP server using Ruby on Rails
Hello, I am currently working on a project using Ruby on Rails. So far, I have a well-populated mySQL database the RoR refers to and the basic scaffolding functions implemented. I also designed views/layouts that furthers the basic scaffolding interface. No problem and no big accomplishment by any means. Now, I want to pull user information from an already existing LDAP server and put that

Is there a way in RoR to automatically redirect to a different page through some method within the view, not the controller? -Gilles -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

PHP FTP functions equivalents?
Two questions from a PHP guy thinking of moving to Rails: 1. Does Rails have equivalents for PHP''s FTP functions (www.php.net/ftp)? 2. What about image editing functions similar to PHP''s GD2 functions? (I would basically want to be able to crop, rotate, draw lines, add text...) I searched online for the above but I got somewhat conflicting info about image editing and

Man pages
I've noticed that the man pages provided in the tarball do not work on Solaris - the output is not formatted as expected. On a linux box it is possible to view the man pages using nroff -mdoc ./sshd.8, where prepended file is /usr/lib/groff/tmac/tmac.doc. There does not appear to be an equivelent macro file on Solaris 2.6. Does anybody know how I can get the man pages to display properly on

icecast.xml syntax for relaying.
Hi all, In Icecast1 to specify a server to relay another server I would use : alias / http://server.example.com:8000 But in icecast2's icecast.xml I cannot see how the equivelent would be accomplished. Perhaps the <master-server> element? But there is no way to specify a mount point. Are there any documents describing valid configuration file elements for icecast.xml? Kind

instance variables in layouts
There''s probably a simple answer to this simple problem, but I am trying to figure out how to reference an instance variable within a layout. In the controller, one method corresponds to a view of the same name. Those instance variables in the method can be used in the corresponding view. However, I want my instance variable to be accessible throughout all my views, not just one,

Bug report (PR#7341)
Full_Name: Dan B Version: na OS: na Submission from: (NULL) (80.6.127.185) I can't log into the bug tracker (I can't find where to register / login). In this way I can't add the following context diff (hopefully in the right order) for my changes to the matrix.Rd... Hmm... I guess this should be a separate report anyway... The first diff explains how the dimnames list should

I''m doing layouts and I have a question on how to process <%= ... %> tags within partials. I have a standard.rhtml file with : <div id="header"><%= render_partial "layouts/header" %></div> and my _header.rhtml contains a tag as such: <link_to "Categories", :controller => "categories", :action=> "list"

Auto-provisioining Polycom 430 wth dd-wrt router

J2EE equivalent
Gang- 1. Is there anything in Ruby that handles the .properites files similar to the J2EE application servers. Or do I need to define all of the properties as constants? 2. Is there anyway I can load some of my classes (such as singletons) during the startup? I am looking for the startup classes that J2EE containers provide. Thanks -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

First hit on app takes a long time
So, I''ve deployed my first rails app, however I''m the only one hitting it for now. I''ve noticed that the first time I hit the app after some long period, it takes a really long time to respond (2-3 seconds). After that, it''s very fast. At first, I thought it might be my VPS "waking up" from some sleep state, but Rails does log the long load time

SSI like function in Rails?
Hey Im slowly learning ruby and rails... still having some problems with grasping the basic concepts though. How do I include a common html snippet in some of my views? (The snippet exists in two different flavors, I want to include either one depending on what type of user (admin/others) is requesting the page) I have tried the normal SSI include tags, but my WEBrick server cant handle
