Distributed indexes, maildir_copy_preserve_filename, and Microsoft
Hi,
I've just completed a migration from Courier to a Dovecot 1.0.7 (patched
RHE 5) which is working great, except for this weirdness of an issue
that is impacting a handful of users. My question is that will turning
off maildir_copy_preserve_filename help or hurt in a situation where
there are multiple servers with their own local INDEX files (uidlist is
shared)?
The problem is that a

Sudden, large numbers of "Timeout while waiting for lock for transaction log ..."
Hi,
Up until yesterday, our environment which consists an NFS maildir file
store with multiple front end servers, was working fine. We've verified
that the server clocks and machines clocks are in sync.
Starting yesterday afternoon, We are getting ~850 log entries of the
form 'Timeout while waiting for lock for transaction log files' or 'Our

Is there a straight forward way to associate login with imap process
Hi,
Is there a way to associate a user's the login (imap-login) process with
the user's 'imap [' process? We are trying to lock down an issue to
make sure we full understand it. /proc and shared memory tools weren't
particular useful.
Just for context, we are having an intermittent locking index cache
locking issue that appears to impact only a subset of our users. The

The case of the disappearing INBOX's - upgrade to 1.1.1 from 1.0.7 and based on Email client type
Hi,
I apologize if this has already been answered. I looked for an identical
message but had no luck. I'm also not convinced this is a bug or if it
is a bug that I want it fixed. The problem gives me a great reason to
change our configuration to something more modern.
Here is the situation. Our 1.0.7 configuration has the following, and
only, namespace definition.

Is there something I can do in a Mongrel configuration file that
would do what I need to do, and kill the need for changing Mongrel?
I see in the Typo 4.0.0 mongrel.conf that it has:
blog = Mongrel::Rails.new(''/blog'',{})
uri "/blog", :handler => blog
Does this do something like what I want?
Thanks,

OK, so I''m not the first person...
Sorry for the flurry of messages. Looking through the archives, I
see that what I want is available in 0.3.13.4 as ''--prefix''. Thanks!

URL root/serving more than one app per subdomain
Hey folks,
I have the following situation: I have a secure server, and I''d like
to run multiple Rails apps without dealing with setting up multiple
secure servers, with their fixed IPs, etc. So, I want to do https://
secure.domain.com/app1/ and https://secure.domain.com/app2/ etc.
In lighttpd this is possible using a combination of relative_url_root

Robust M-Estimator Comparison
Hello,
I'm learning about robust M-estimators right now and had settled on the
"Huber Proposal 2" as implemented in MASS, but further reading made clear,
that at least 2 further weighting functions (Hampel, Tukey bisquare) exist.
In a post from B.D. Ripley going back to 1999 I found the following quote:
>> 2) Would huber() give me results that are similar (i.e., close

really a GemPlugin/mongrel_cluster question
Hi folks,
I''d like to run the Mongrel prerelease (0.3.13.4 prerelease) and
mongrel_cluster 0.2.1 on my shared host (which doesn''t want to
install prerelease software for all to use). I can install the gems
in my own directory, and run mongrel 0.3.13.4 with --prefix just
fine. However, I think due to the GemPlugin structure, even my new

Disable maildir indexing and dovecot-uidlist on LMTP/LDA delivery
Hello all,
Is there a way to use LMTP (or LDA) so that maildir index and
dovecot-uidlist are not updated?
My setup is such that mail delivery sees user's maildir as write only. This
setup works well when using postfix for mail delivery, but when I try to
switch to dovecot LMTP the lmtp process wants to read the dovecot-uidlist
and fails on insufficient privileges. Is there a way around this

MASS: rlm, MM and errors in observations AND regressors
Hello,
I need to perform a robust regression on data which contains errors in BOTH
observations and regressors. Right now I am using rlm from the MASS package
with 'method="MM"' and get visually very nice results. MASS is quite clear,
however, that the described methodologies are only applicable to
observation-error only data (p. 157, 4th Ed.). So here's the questions now:

What causes dovecot to rebuild dovecot-uidlist?
Hello,
In what situations will Dovecot 1.2.11 rebuild its uidlist? I am using the
maildir storage format, and I am also modifying the uidlist manually (so
it's possible I could jack* things up). I have found some related code in
maildir-uidlist.c: maildir_uidlist_next.
1) Blank filename or UID 0
2) Any UID not being greater than the proceeding UID
3) Any UID being greater than ~4 billion.

sshd and .bashrc
The short version: There's a "#define USE_PIPES"
in the middle of session.c; it would be better if
it were in (e.g.) defines.h or some other .h file.
(If in fact it needs to be defined at all; I'm not
convinced that it does.) Here's the (much) longer
version:
I recently installed the latest OpenSSH on some of
our servers (RHEL5, which provides the 4.3 release)

dovecot-uidlist is not up-to-date
Hi,
?Am using dovecot-2.2.10-8 on Centos-7 and everything seemed to be
totally fine for many years. Now am trying to migrate our on-premises
mail server to the cloud and I had to get some statistics. I was doing
that using the doveadm utility.
Unfortunately I found that the numbers don't match if I check the real
messages in my Maildirs. For some account doveadm was reporting number

Tried that. It rebuilds index based on dovecot-uidlist. But not the dovecot-uidlist based on actual mail data. :(

Dovecot deliver uidlist issues
Hi all,
Lets say I have a maildir which doesn't contain any dovecot files but
has some emails lying around in it. If I add a message to this mailbox
using deliver, dovecot creates the uidlist file with a single entry (the
message that was just delivered). When I then log in to the mailbox, all
the other messages are added into the uidlist file in the normal order
(directory list order I
