dovecot: Fatal: Time just moved backwards by 3909 seconds.
Hi, after setting up a KVM based virtual guest on one of our virtualization servers, we see dovecot die on that virtual guest regularly because of an alleged time shift. The virtual guest is Centos 5.4 based with dovecot 1.2.8 (at first we also tried with the original 1.0.7 (?) dovecot shipped with Centos). I wrote "alleged time shift" because there is no timeshift whatsoever, or

Time just moved backwards
This wins the 2007 award for strangest (or most amusing) log message: dovecot: Time just moved backwards by 13 seconds. This might cause a lot of problems, so I'll just kill myself now. It does, unfortunately, leave dovecot dead, which was pretty mysterious to me. Maybe it could re-exec instead?

dovecot and ntp: Fatal: Time just moved backwards
Hallo, I am running dovecot on a PC (a workstation) to have a mail client independent storage for my mails. Now I would like to have the system clock set correctly by using ntpd or ntpdate (using debian/sid). The problem is, that the PC is not online at boot time, but is set online on demand manually using "pon" to start the pppd later. So ntpd cannot sync the time on boot time

Time just moved backwards
Hi there, I got a daily cron (rdate to local time server) job wich adjusts time and which constantly gives me headache. Every day my dovecot suicides with: "dovecot: Time just moved backwards by 11 seconds. This might cause a lot of problems, so I'll just kill myself now." Of course my onboard clock is constantly off by more than 5 secs. I don't want to abandon time

Testing EXTERNAL AUTHENTICATION
Hi. I'm trying to test EXTERNAL AUTHENTICATION in Dovecot. To do this I first configured Thunderbird and Opera to use my server, neither of them were successful. As a result I contacted both organisations to enquire if they supported EXTERNAL AUTHENTICATION in their products. Thunderbird responded and said yes. However, on closer inspection my contact at Thunderbird identified

Dunno, your email provider doesn't want to talk to me, heh, screw them :) They claim i'm on an rbl, no rbl checks verify this. Even tried to submit a request using their website, but it's broken and doesn't work (http://postmaster.ausics.net/pmg.php) ----- Forwarded message from patrickdk at patrickdk.com ----- Date: Tue, 06 Oct 2009 23:31:37 -0400 From: Patrick

cloning drives
Good day everyone - This maybe somewhat OT, but I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good tool for cloning *nix drives. The one thing though is that I will be cloning a smaller drive than the destination drive and would like to distribute the free space accordingly on the new drive. Can anyone recommend anything? Thanks in advance. :::::::::::::::::::::: Dustin

Then when I try to run Dovecot it reports the error: /share/MD0_DATA/optware/opt/sbin/dovecot: error while loading shared libraries: libdovecot.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory To get a better idea of what's going on, I added

Secure Sockets Layer client certificate authentication
Hi everyone. Please note, I've asked a very similar question before and I apologize for sounding like a broken record. Well here it goes. What I want to do is authenticate my users using a certificate. Thereby authenticating both the user and server with strong tokens that are centrally managed. In the worst case scenario the user should only need to enter a password for the certificate

Time moved backwards by 4398 seconds
Dovecot (v1.1.rc8) died tonight, with an error about time moving backwards by 4398 seconds. I can see from logs that this has happend a few times before with the imap processes, without me noticing. I sure noticed the master process missing, though :-). I was puzzled that it was always 4398 seconds, in particular because this server runs an NTP daemon. A little searching for this problem shows

Backup for linux/asterisk
After getting my feet wet with asterisk@home, I want to set up a second asterisk box to add a call shop billing and other add-ons such as LCR. My question is as follows. Is there a backup program that will save to a tape drive or a USB CD Writer so if I mess up an install I don't have to go through a complete reinstall? I saw a few programs out there but they required X windows and from
