Success - Rails, FastCGI, and IIS / Windows Server
About 17:00 localtime I managed to get fastcgi, Rails and IIS all happy together. Upon success I ripped off my clothes and ran through the village yelling "The future is now!". A PDP-11 geezer stuck his head out a window and said "The future isn''t what it used to be and keep yer shirt on". Modifications were required to dispatch.fcgi and request.rb. The following

OPENSSH REMOTE ROOT COMPROMISE ALL VERSIONS (fwd)
There has not been any mention of this, so.. I'm having hard time trying to figure out whether this is for real or just a joke. (Anyway, I don't use those possibly vulnerable features myself.) Any analysis yet? -- Pekka Savola "You each name yourselves king, yet the Netcore Oy kingdom bleeds." Systems. Networks. Security. -- George R.R.

Multivariate spline regression and predicted values
Hello, I am trying to estimate a multivariate regression of Y on X with regression splines. Y is (nx1), and X is (nxd), with d>1. I assume the data is generated by some unknown regression function f(X), as in Y = f(X) + u, where u is some well-behaved regression error. I want to estimate f(X) via regression splines (tensor product splines). Then, I want to get the predicted values for some new

Samba and CUPS... Driving Me Psychotic
I have set up samba 2.2.2 (debian package 2.2.2-2, actually). Files are shared out (though Win98 doesnt like my valid users lines, a task for another day). However, it hits the fan when I try to share out my printer to my win2000 system (note: I can print from the server). Ive been through DIAGNOSIS.txt and the HOWTO collection, which didnt help, unless I missed something. Here are some relevant

Why Wouldn't I Use Rails
I am starting a large project and still selecting what framework to use. Rather than ask brand x what is wrong with brand y, I am more interested in self confession. Why would I *not* want to use Rails (compared to Iowa and Nitro). I posted a synopsis of the project to ruby-talk but will repost it here if anyone wants it. xev

Handling of SIGUSR1 in dispatch.fcgi
The latest version of dispatch.fcgi in the trunk has the following code snippet: trap("USR1") do # Go to exit as soon as possible. end One of the issues I encountered while debugging fcgi under windows is that SIGUSR1 is not supported in the native Windows version of Ruby (though it is in cygwin). Currently, I have it commented out to allow dispatch.fcgi to run without blowing up.

Backspace key is sending Delete after update to 4.4 (tcsh issue?)
Maybe it was always sending Delete and I didn't notice it, but I have had the following in my .tcshrc file for ages (without realizing it): bindkey -b ^? i-search-back Before the update to 4.4, hitting the backspace key at the shell prompt deleted the previous character. Now it activates the search backwards function as instructed to do so by the bindkey directive. The

Mouse crazy on Full screen app + Tablet PC
Hi, I don't really expect this to get fixed but I have an issue and I was hoping someone would be able to at least diagnose it. I have a X41T Thinkpad. It is a tablet pc and when I have a full screen app (i.e. game) open the digitizer pen goes nuts. The cursor tries to go off the screen. Holding it perfectly still will cause the mouse to glide slowly across the screen while moving it

GUIDs vs. Auto-Increment id's
I know this thread has been discussed before, but I have run into this problem and would like to re-open it... I have come to a point in my project where I need to provide an import/export feature for Active Records. Since a user could export off one system and import onto another auto-increment integers will not work (collisions on ids due to lack of uniquness). Listed below is an initial list

Centos 7.5 - Gnome3 - KVM - Keypad numeric failure
Everyone, I have a problem with the numeric keypad while using a Centos 7.5 new installation with kvm. When I login to the host machine using gnome3 or classic gnome the numeric keypad does not function. If I activate another 7.5 guest machine with gnome3 the numeric keypad on the guest does not work either. If I login on the host machine using kde as the desktop the keypad works fine and

CentOS 7 on Macbook Pro : keyboard mapping problem
Hi, Some time ago I installed CentOS 7 on an older MacBook Pro for a client, since she couldn't install a more recent version of Mac OS X on it. The installation was a bit of an adventure, and I wrote a little article about it: https://blog.microlinux.fr/centos-7-macbook-pro/ I made this installation about a year ago, and the only thing I changed since then is replacing Xfce by GNOME. I

mouse scroll-wheel side-click configuration?
Still googling, no joy so far (though I'm not giving up yet). Can anyone point me to a resource that may help me figure out how to make the side-clicks of the scroll wheel on a logitech mouse do something useful? thanks! -- ---- Fred Smith -- fredex at fcshome.stoneham.ma.us ----------------------------- "And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,

Problem with messages with long lines
Hello dear mailing list readers, Recently I am experimenting a problem trying to retrieve messages over a POP3 protocol. Everything goes right until the POP3 client tries to retrieve a message that contains one or more long lines ? lines as long as 3000 characters or even more. The client (Outlook 2003 and 2007) stops on that message until timeout. I have opened a connection manually to see

Problem with Logitech wireless keyboard EX110
I got a Logitech EX110 wireless keyboard and mouse set about a year or so ago, maybe more. The number pad on the keyboard stopped working after a while, so I complained to Logitech, and they sent me a new keyboard (actually, the whole set). I've had the problem on and off again a couple of times since then, but it usually only lasts a few days before all is well again. However, my son also

CentOS 7, PS-2 moose
I just built a workstation, CentOS 7, fully updated. My user requires his three-button mouse, telling me that imaging software is written for three-button mice (so *please* don't tell me to tell him to get a new mouse). Anyway, no cursor. In both /var/log/messages and journalctl, I see "unable to enable mouse". What I read in messages and manpages is that PS-2 is default
