"mount -u -o ro" problems with 7-stable
Hi, This happened to me repeatedly (but not always), even after updating to the latest RELENG_7 yesterday ... 1. Boot into single user mode 2. fsck / # finishes successful! 3. mount -u / 4. Do a few edits to files in /etc 5. mount -u -o ro / softdep_waitidle: Failed to flush worklist for 0xc1f36b30 mount: /dev/ad0s1a : Device busy I can't remount the root file system read-only, so

stable/9: Force ada1 to UDMA-33
Hello, I've got a (P)ATA disk in a special frame. The disk itself supports UDMA-100 (and has an 80-ribbon cable), but the frame isn't compatible with that. By default, FreeBSD negotiates UDMA-100, and the console starts to fill with ICRC errors. In the past, I used a patch to ata-all.c that enabled the following entry in loader.conf to force the disk to UDMA-33, so it worked fine:

ACPI "blacklist" question
Hello, I have recently updated a machine to 7-stable. ACPI doesn't seem to work correctly on this machine. With earlier versions of FreeBSD (including the latest RELENG_6), I got this line in dmesg: ACPI disabled by blacklist. Contact your BIOS vendor. And everything was fine. The box runs perfectly well with ACPI disabled. (I can't get a BIOS update because the mainboard is too

LevelOne WPC-0301 11g Wireless CardBus
Hello, I bought a LevelOne WPC-0301 11g Wireless CardBus Adapter today. According to the box it is "v6". The ral(4) man- page mentions only v2, but that one is ancient and can't be bought anymore. So, enabling the debug sysctl gives this in dmesg: cardbus0: Expecting link target, got 0x0 cardbus0: <network, ethernet> at device 0.0 (no driver attached) cardbus0: CIS pointer

re(4) problems with GA-H77N-WIFI
Hello, I need some advice how to debug this issue ... Recently I got a new mainboard for a router, it's a Gigabyte GA-H77N-WIFI with two onboard re(4) NICs. The problem is that re0 works fine and re1 doesn't: It doesn't receive any packets. Tcpdump displays all outgoing packets, but no incoming ones on re1. Ifconfig shows the link correctly (100 or 1000 Mbit, depending on where I

Vulnerability in vixie cron?
Hi, Recently there have been advisories and patches for SuSE and RedHat (and probably a few others) regarding a vulnerability in Vixie Cron. The details say that there's insufficient checking of the return value of setuid, which can lead to priviledge escalation and lets users run cron jobs with root priviledges. As far as I know, FreBSD also uses Vixie Cron (at least the cron(8) manpage

Sub-Sub-Subfolders not shown after converting from maildir to mdbox
Hi again, I just recognized a problem concerning subfolders after converting from maildir to mdbox. Thunderbird and SeaMonkey don?t show folders that are subfolders of subfolders. Have a look at the filesystem: discovery:/var/mail/domain.tld/patrick/mdbox/mailboxes/Folder1/Folder2# ls -l insgesamt 8 drwx------ 2 vmail vmail 4096 5. Sep 23:42 dbox-Mails drwx------ 3 vmail vmail 4096 5. Sep

Relocate subfolders to different mount point
I would like to relocate the subfolders of the Sent folder to a different location. Now send messages mail is stored in mbox format at the location /home/users/testuser/mail/.Sent. I would like to store the subfolders Sent/2017 and Sent/2018 at the location /home/archive/users/testuser/.Sent.2017 and /home/archive/users/testuser/.Sent.2018 Is this even possible? I am using currently using

Dovecot doesn't seem to report all subfolders to Thunderbird
Hi, I've recently migrated my emails from a Yahoo account to my own mailserver on a VPS. Ever since then, Thunderbird seems to have issues with the mailbox's directory structure: When I start Thunderbird, it immediately deletes the local copies of all 3rd-level folders (i.e. subfolders of a subfolder of a folder in the mailbox root). Since that didn't happen with the Yahoo account, I

How to see folders/subfolders/emails through imap
Hello all, I am trying to do something very simple - at least thats what I thought. I have some fs, it contains folders and subfolders with email files ordered like maildir. Now I try to set up dovecot on top simply to let some imap account watch these email files. But I cannot see any folders at all. I can create new folders and see them, but I cannot create subfolders as subdirs like

Help on dovecot, imap, maildir and subfolders
I have Fedora Core 2 and dovecot-0.99.10.5-0. I've done nothing to configure it but it seems to have found the Mail dir in my home directory ok and I can connect using IMAP. But I can't create subfolders. If I right click on inbox, there's a 'New Folder...', but if I create one then right click on it, no more 'New Folder...'. So it seems folders can only go one level

mdbox: Cannot create subfolder called "dbox-Mails" (2.0beta5)
I am trying out "mdbox" under Dovecot 2.0beta5. Looking in the "mailboxes" directory under the mdbox storage root ("~/dbox" in my case), I can see that the mail folders are mapped into filesystem directories. But Dovecot seems to put all the message list information ("dovecot.index.cache", "dovecot.index.log") for any given mail folder into a

Plugin "lazy_expunge" and subfolder
Hi Timo, hi all, we want to use the "lazy_expunge" plugin (from dovecot 2.1.10) and had configured it in a test environemnt like described in "http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Lazyexpunge" (1 namespace) There are some subfolders from "INBOX" (like "INBOX/SPAM") in a "maildir++" configuration. All actions on first level directories

Max IMAP fodlers
Is there a way to limit the amount of maildir folders a user can have? Also is there is hard limit on the amount of folders dovecot can handle? I have a user who has over 3000 folder (including subfolders) that is having issues with delays in loading, moving, and deleting messages. Thanks in advance Jeff N.

Maildir + Evolution
I don't know if this is an Evolution bug or not, but when I use the maildir format with Dovecot 0.99.10p2 (from OpenBSD packages collection) and connect to it from Evolution 1.4 using IMAP, Evolution displays subfolders incorrectly. It actually does not show any subfolders, only root folders with names like "Folder.Subfolder" and "Folder.Subfolder.Subsubfolder".

Binc IMAP "IMAPdir" style layout
Hi, I'm in the process of migrating several years worth of mail to be accessible via an IMAP server. Some time ago, I evaluated both Binc IMAP and Dovecot and found Dovecot to be much faster on large folders, which is quite important to me. One thing I did not however manage to determine from the documentation on namespaces is whether or not it is possible to implement what Binc IMAP calls

Maildir format
Started using dovecot and I am very impressed by its speed. I am confused by what it is expecting the format of the Maildir directory to be in. I currently have ~/Maildir which contains new, cur, and tmp all containing email that should be in my inbox and it pops up correctly as such when I connect to dovecot using Mutt. After the connection a new .INBOX is created under ~/Maildir with sym
