Sudden, large numbers of "Timeout while waiting for lock for transaction log ..."
Hi,
Up until yesterday, our environment which consists an NFS maildir file
store with multiple front end servers, was working fine. We've verified
that the server clocks and machines clocks are in sync.
Starting yesterday afternoon, We are getting ~850 log entries of the
form 'Timeout while waiting for lock for transaction log files' or 'Our

ldap quota dovecot
hi,
I've used dovecot 1.1.16 but after upgrade to dovecot 1.2.4 per-user

Distributed indexes, maildir_copy_preserve_filename, and Microsoft
Hi,
I've just completed a migration from Courier to a Dovecot 1.0.7 (patched
RHE 5) which is working great, except for this weirdness of an issue
that is impacting a handful of users. My question is that will turning
off maildir_copy_preserve_filename help or hurt in a situation where
there are multiple servers with their own local INDEX files (uidlist is
shared)?
The problem is that a

Thunderbird, subscriptions, and upgrade to 1.1.3
Hi,
I've upgraded from 1.0.7 to 1.1.3. When I did this, my Thunderbird lost
its brain and did not show some subscribed folders. squirrelmail also
seemed to have issues. Applemail and mutt were fine. The configuration
output is below.
Hopefully this is just me and just random bizarreness. There wasn't a
problem in 1.0.7 but I could have been caught in mid-upgrade.
Thunderbird did not

ACLs - creating new top level folders
Hi,
I'm wondering, whether it's possible, to define an ACL on the mailbox
itself. We use Dovecot 1.2.15 (included in Debian 6) and maildir
filesystem layout:
/home/mail01/user1/Maildir/new \
/home/mail01/user1/Maildir/cur Inbox
/home/mail01/user1/Maildir/tmp /
/home/mail01/user1/Maildir/.folder1/new \
/home/mail01/user1/Maildir/.folder1/cur folder1

Mails don't get deleted after POP3
Hi, there!
Well, I am new to dovecot, so please be patient with me:
I have a virtual server and want to setup simple mail delivery.
postfix, saslauthd and dovecot basically work fine.
The only open issue is, that (I guess) dovecot doesn't remove the
mail when it's retrieved via pop3 from the server.
It keeps sending me the same emails again and again.
(The mail client (Thunderbird) is

Panic: IMAP: Trying to allocate 2273345672 bytes
Hi, we're running dovecot 1.1.2 (centos5 32-bit rpm from atrpms) havn't
had any real issues with it, but today it looks like an index has become
badly corrupted. We're seeing this in the logs every time we log in to a
particular account:

propagate atimes with rsync-2.6.6 (fwd)
Dear Martin Pool.
We regularly use rsync for making backups of our file systems but we have
noticed that the atimes are not transferred with the files and are also
always updated on the sender's side. Therefore, we have created a modified
version of rsync based on rsync-2.6.6 protocol version 29 which transfers
the access times with the transferred files and also allows to preserve
the access

rsync feature needed: preserve atime
Often we need to preserve the information atime conveys, but I have found
no way to get rsync to preserve this, nor any hint it is being worked on.
It would be great if 'rsync -t' also set atime not just mtime -- or maybe a
new option is desired for atime.
I don't know if the -X mentioned in "NEWS file from CVS" covers this:

NFS, IDLE, and index locking
Hi,
I'll try to keep short. My primary question is what, in people's
experience, are the best configuration settings for to avoid potential
NFS cache locking issues in an interesting heterogeneous environment? We
appear to have a workaround for some locking issues we have seen, which
is turning off IDLE. Upgrading our version of dovecot from 1.1.4 is
likely to address some core

Expire plugin with Mysql
Hey guys, got a question about the expire plugin. According to the
wiki, the expire plugin "keeps an internal database (Berkeley DB or
SQL)". I was wondering what fields in the mysql table are needed for
expire to work.
I assume it is setup is similar to the quota dict
setup, so was just wondering what fields are required (i.e:
select_field, where_field, username_field, for quota).

O_NOATIME ?
Hello,
since we are using rsync for backing up millions of files in a virtual environment, and most of the virtual machines run on SSD cached storage, i`d be curious how that negatively impacts lifetime of the SSD`s when we do rsync run every night for backup
my question:
does rsync normal file comparison run to determine if anything has changed change atime of any files ?
for me it seems,

PhatBox and Music Keg unofficially support Vorbis
PhatBox and Music Keg (which I'd describe as MP3 players that hook into
your car stereo) unofficially support Vorbis.
Apparently there was a post to vorbis-dev quite a while ago about this,
but it's news to me, and it hasn't been on this list. I'll add this to
my hardware list, which I'll post here soon.
This was a (very speedy :-)) response I got from PhatNoise's

improved atime patch
I posted a patch a few days ago that adds copying of atime. At that
time, it was just enabled with -t/--times. After some time, we have
figured out that that choice might not have been the best. Here's a
new version of the patch (relative to CVS) that adds -A/--copy-atime
instead. It also includes a test case.
Any feedback on this patch and/or the previous one that I posted?

some errors on 1.1.3
Hi,
we recently upgraded dovecot from 1.0.5 to 1.1.3+latest patches. After the
upgrade I saw some errors in the logs and I'm not sure whether they're a
cause for concern. Our setup is 2 servers running openSUSE 11.0 and a NetApp
Filer as storage backend. Following is the config:

[LLVMdev] unofficially mips16 llvm now passes all of test-suite in pic mode
I have to look at some issues in static but the initial port is pic and
all of test-suite now passes.
Even the crazy mips16 hard-float and interoperability with mips32 is
working in test-suite.
People that have experience with this in gcc mips16 can attest to the
complexity there.
More testing and other work but at least the base port is there.
