Bug in keywords conversion with courier-dovecot-migrate.pl v1.1.7
The problem is the file glob on line 344 in convert_subscriptions()
# read updates from the directory
my %updates;
foreach (<$keyword_dir/*>) {
This isn't going to pick up any files beginning with a dot, so most of
the update files in the courierimapkeywords directory are going to be
skipped.

PATCH: flexible array members in dovecot 1.1
It looks like the build problems with the flexible array members in
Dovecot 1.1 and GCC 2.95 has been raised several times already on this
list, but no one mentioned out that autoconf 2.61+ provides a macro to
deal with these.

Released Sieve v0.1.4
Hello Dovecot users,
Not much Sieve development was done in the last five weeks, but some
important platform-dependent bugs were found and repaired. The main new
feature is the addition of a custom Sieve language extension for
debugging in the Sieve command line tools.
Changelog Sieve v0.1.4:

authorizing users
Im trying to clarify if I understand correctly about authorizing users.
"The simplest login method is sending the user login info in plain
text and allowing access only to users that already have UNIX access
(ie. in /etc/passwd) to the machine dovecot is running on."
Im using fetchmail postfix dovecot on my own personal computer to get
my mail from two servers. What Im wanting to

Search results as virtual folders
This may have been asked before - if so I apologize.
Some mail clients - like Thunderbird - can provide a virtual folder or
"saved search" to provide a list of mails that match certain criteria.
Obviously, unless special client-side caching is implemented - which
Thunderbird (my own client of choice) - does not, generation of these
folders take time. Does Dovecot have any

custom imap flags in maildir don't saved after upgrade to 1.1.10
Custom imap flags (like $label1, $label2 in mozilla TB) don't saved in maildir
after upgrade to 1.1.10.
In logs no errors obout this.
With mailbox custom flags works OK.

CentOS 5 ... again
At this point I don't think I can do anymore damage to my mail server
but I'd like to know if anyone else is using the pre-built RPM files
from ATrpms before I install them?
http://dl.atrpms.net/all/dovecot-1.1.11-0_90.el5.i386.rpm
http://dl.atrpms.net/all/dovecot-sieve-1.1.6-9.el5.i386.rpm
Or is there a dovecot-sieve for 1.0.7 from the rpmforge repo? I haven't
found it yet but

Extra Imap processes
Hello fellow dovecot users!
I have a question for you guys. I have a server running dovecot/exim and I
allow both pop/pops and imap/imaps. When I look at the running processes, I
see a lot of imap processes that look like the following: imap
[user at domain.tld USER_IP]
Sometimes, there are duplicates imap [user at domain.tld USER_IP] processes.
I was wondering, how come those processes

Request for help with new plugin
Hi there,
I was having lots of trouble with the normal expire plugin so I
decided to try and come up with a plugin that handles the trash
directory in the same way as Courier (when the user logs out it should
clean messages from the trash that have been there for more than X
days.) I used the expire and trash plugins as a guide but there are
probably a number of things done wrong here

Enabling security on POP3 and IMAP
Hello,
Currently, on our new test server, I am offering IMAP on 143 and POP3 on
110.
We would like to enable security on both of these protocols to attempt
to eliminate the risk from an internal
password-grabbing/content-grabbing attack.
I presume this would mean enabling SSL, and a more securure
authentication, right? Or are plain text passwords just sent over the
SSL, and therefore perfectly

is there a script to find a message from a given username easily?
Hello people,
I used primarily mutt and sendmail for many years. (And elm
before mutt.) All my mail was saved into ~/Mail. Messages
from, say, smith at foo.ber were stored in ~/Mail/smith; all mail
from smith was catenated into one file, and if I wanted to
find something that smith had written, I would just cd to
~/Mail and grep or egrep on a likely word or phrase.
Is there a script

Can Dovecot Proxy GMail?
Hi,
We are using gmail (google apps) across our company with most users
using outlook (windoze) or evolution (linux) and imap/pop based on user
preference. We are having issues in that our internet links are fairly
slow and when users download mails they get frustrated with the time it
takes and often get timeouts and issues where outlook fails to fetch a
mail yet gmail thinks it was retrieved -

Sorting in IMAP list command?
Hi All,
I'm running Dovecot 1.2.9 and have noticed the IMAP list command does
not appear to send a sorted list of folders with list command. For
example on our Cyrus server I get a sorted list of folders (with INBOX
listed first):
2 list "" "*"
* LIST (\Noinferiors) "/" "INBOX"
* LIST (\HasNoChildren) "/" "CalProject"
* LIST

set \Seen flag on mail
I'm looking for a way to set the \Seen flag on certain mail no matter
what. Currently I'm using a global sieve script to do this. From what
I've read, there is no way to enforce the global script if the user
creates their own sieve script.
More details:
I have a postfix transport that along with sender_bcc_maps and
recipient_bcc_maps uses deliver to create a read only archive of

Outlook 2003 and Thunderbird IMAP + getting new headers
Hi,
We run 1.1.3 and I use Outlook to connect to my IMAP box and a couple of
times per day (randomly) when I click certain folders IMAP will start
retrieving ALL headers for that folder again ('retrieving new headers')!
I don't understand this. What triggers IMAP to do so, why not just retrieve
only the NEW headers?
Is it Dovecot or Outlook (probably) and what can be done

Virtual mailboxes not always up to date?
Hi,
I have been experimenting with the Virtual mailboxes plugin [1] recently.
This is my setup: the following dovecot-virtual file exists in a virtual
mailbox called "todo":
------ dovecot-virtual ------
*
-Trash
-Trash/*
-Spam
-Spam/*
OR KEYWORD $TODO KEYWORD todo
-----------------------------
so if any mail in any mailbox except Trash+Spam has the keyword "$TODO"

Dovecot and Bogofilter
Hi,
on my small Xen-virtualised server with 48 MiB RAM I use Postfix and
Dovecot, because the Debian administrators dislike qmail [1], which is in
my opinion despite some maintainability and code quality issues a quite
well designed software, because it mostly follows the UNIX principles.
Postfix is not able to sort my E-Mail into different Maildir folders and
after I looked at procmail's

OT: best linux imap client for dovecot
Hi,
I'm a long term dovecot user, packager and believer, but on the other
side of the wire I've been a mutt user for longer than I can think.
Which modern email client under Linux is working best with dovecot? I
just did a grep on User-Agent:/X-Mailer: on my dovecot archive (which
goes back to 2004) and found that the top ten are:
28% Thunderbird
25% Evolution
9% Apple Mail
9% Mutt

Stateful Webmail
Hello,
I'm a developer on the Orbited project (http://www.orbited.org), which
provides a TCPSocket interface in javascript (emulated over HTTP using ajax
and comet.) This TCPSocket allows true bi-directional communication between
a web browser and an arbitrary tcp server. One of the other developers
pointed me to a recent dovecot thread about webmail. Sorry for the new
thread (I just joined
